2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

hahaha @missjeanie! My lists of masks to try / buy gets longer pretty much every time I log onto this thread. lol. Smiley Happy I think the only thing keeping me from having picked up new ones is that I'm trying to be good on my no-buy for sheet masks since I've already purchased some skincare and makeup products. Smiley Wink

The packaging on the Milk Makeup masks is excellent! They just introduced a new mask to their lineup too -  MILK MAKEUP - Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Hydrating Face Mask. I can see myself doing some tailored multi-masking with all three of the stick masks from the brand!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I saw this new one @itsfi !  My April shopping is going to be 95% masks at this rate!  I try to pare it down thinking I can't use everything up... but .... it's still ridiculously long.  Though I do think my "only buy on sale" mentality this year has helped me skip past some products.  Milk is quickly becoming a brand I'm drawn to though.  And after their initial launch at Sephora I wasn't interested at all!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oouh, I'm excited to see what you end up getting at the sale @missjeanie! I've been using points for the $100 Rouge reward to pick up stuff up until now. At some point, I need to decide what I'm going to get during the sale and what comes out of the cart. I just saw that Sephora Collection came out with new masks - there are a couple of ones that have caught my eye.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh, @itsfi I will have to check and see, might be a good one in there for us to try for next month's mask meet up! @missjeanie

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh! I hadn’t seen the new Sephora masks @itsfi ! I think there will be some amazing hauls in the next few weeks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A little BIC-inspired masking:

medimask.jpgBite, Mediheal & I Dew Care

I was interested in the I Dew Care mask set thanks to @sonnydee  - this one turned out to be a lot of fun. Pure to the Pore is a cleansing volcanic ash clay mask, and the first I've tried with it's pudding-like consistency.  I imagine this is what the Boscia Pore Pudding is like - it's kind of like thick, gray slime. But I liked it! The scent was interesting; earthy, something I can't place - perhaps a bit medicinal? Anyways, it didn't dry down like most clay masks, it stayed gelatinous for about 10 minutes and then began to dry. I rinsed (and rinsed, and rinsed - this would be an ideal candidate for rinsing off in the shower). I forgot to check my pores, but I have just enough left to try one more time. If the Boscia is anything like this, I understand why it sold out so quickly when it was featured in the Weekly Wow. I need to sample it.

Next up I tried the Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring Ampoule Mask EX, a gift from the wonderful @ShortErica. This had light sheet mask scent, and required a bit of finagling to match up with my face, but no scissors required, yay! I left it on for a good 25 minutes, and removed to find just a slight amount of tackiness. My skin was visibly plumped and I was happy with the results. An A- only for the fit.

Last night I did some No-Brainer maskingSmiley Happy

snow.jpgOrigins & When

The ORIGINS - Drink Up™ 10 Minute Hydrating Mask with Apricot & Swiss Glacier Water was a gift from my Galentine, @MissPuff  - something I added to my wish list after reading @keana1 's reviews on the Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. Wow is the peach-yogurt scent on this delicious! After leaving on 15 minutes, my skin really did drink it up - there was only a minimal amount to remove. I used a cotton pad and then rinsed before moving on to my sheet mask.

When is a brand I discovered in my Factory subscription, a recommendation from @KrishAtl. I fell in love immediately with the fit, material, light citrus-scent, and incredible smoothing it gives my skin that lasts longer than other masks. Another BIC-er here pointed out that it does have alcohol, which is unfortunate. It doesn't seem to bother my skin though, and I use them about once a week. It's my fancy/recovery/I-need-a-lift No-brainer mask Smiley Happy

do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

do you ever experience having excess oil after using any beauty products with alcohol? @eshoe

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

I haven’t experienced that yet, @lmaster. Though I will pay closer attention now that you’ve mentioned it. The last time I noticed excess oil was when I was using certain facial oils before bed.

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

How does using a mask with alcohol effect your skin @eshoe

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

I just used another one last night that had no effect on it, @lmaster. I have issues when I use certain products with oil but for some reason alcohol doesn’t bother it. Not that I want to bath my skin in a vat of it, and I try to avoid products with it. At least for the most part👍🏼

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

Lucky you!! @eshoe what would you consider your skin type?

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

It is dry, @lmaster. I can pile on layers of moisturizing products no problem. Oils are usually not a problem, but some heavier ones do cause tiny breakouts. My eyelids have recently decided to go rogue and are oily, but that’s about it. I think overall my skin is pretty tolerant of whatever I use, but if I don’t add a ton of moisture it feels tight and my blush turns out patchy.

Re: do you ever experience having excess oil after using any...

Good to know @eshoe  I feel like my hands are totally dry all the time!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They all sound great @eshoe!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A good couple of days’ masking @faeriegirl, all of which I would repeatSmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Sounds like some great masking!! It's funny, I've been soo good about checking ingredients, but I've never checked them on the When masks. At least it's near the middle of the ingredients. I've only tried the 10:00 PM mask so far and got such great results, I wouldn't have guessed there'd be alcohol. 😉

I just bought a set of Mediheal masks from this line and this one, plus the W.H.P that you reviewed recently are both in it. I'm really liking the brand so far and this one sounds pretty great! Can't wait to try them!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm curious what the Mediheal masks in your kit are @Shosh85. We can all be masking triplets @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica Now I see your comment. 😂😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Not once did I check the ingredients on When until  @itsfi or was it @lmaster@Shosh85. I was crushed because I consider it my benchmark mask😆 After numerous repeats, I stand by my

love for it but now recommend with a bit of caution.

Excited to hear your thoughts on the Mediheal masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I think I did use one with alcohol. I've found some recently,, like the cold brew that I loved and now I see the alcohol and its so upsetting! I loved the scent of that mask!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I do set some limits with masks that contain alcohol and the When masks are ones I still use anyway. The alcohol on the When masks are near the middle of ingredients too, so I don't worry about as much as the ones that have it in the first line of ingredients. 😉
