2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi these sound amazing!!! Will have to add to my samples-to-request list for my next sephora trip. I thought this thread would encourage me to use up my stash more/faster but it seems to grow my wish list even faster... lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha @annahoang! I thought the same thing - surely, this thread will help motivate me to use up my masks and I'll learn about masking along the way. It has done both of those things but it's also given me a wish list that looks more like an inventory list of a sheet mask warehouse than it does a short, sweet list of goodies to try. lol! Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Kate Somerville sounds amazing @itsfi !  Yet another product added to my loves list!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, it's really good. I was hesitant at first, but this is one of my favorite chemical exfoliants.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

really love the Kate Somerville triple acid treatment too!!! its amazing and my face feels a lot cleaner after I got the product. also the sephora store associate told me it ll help clean out more dirty stuff out of the pore when you use it right before applying clay masks. It's true!!!!!

KATE SOMERVILLE - Liquid ExfoliKate® Triple Acid Resurfacing Treatment

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you for sharing this tip @Miamia27, adding it to the Mask Hacks Master list!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It's such a great product @Miamia27! Love that tip! Smiley Happy I would never have thought to use it after a clay mask - thanks so much for sharing that; I'm going to give it a try. Do you have a favorite clay mask, or if not a favorite, one you really enjoy using?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Actually I use it right before the clay mask, gently massage the areas with pore problem for better absorption. Then leave 30s before I start applying the clay masks, every time I do so my face feels super clean afterwards.

As for the masks, I am currently using the pore pudding from Boscia, its amazing and doesn't dry out my skin as much as the GlamGlow ones. Also tried the Irish mud clay mask from Peter Roth and that one is amazing as well. it doesn't dry out my skin AT ALL and super hydrating. However the cleansing ability isn't as obvious as other clay masks.

BOSCIA - Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment

PETER THOMAS ROTH - Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Miamia27, I have and use both of those; they're good. I really like that PTR mud mask! <3

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Great tip about using it before the mask @Miamia27 !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Yttp mask sounds great @itsfi! I need to get a sample the next time I’m by a store😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooh, if you try it out, let us know what you think about it @faeriegirl! It's a nice one and there's a lot of product in it too!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm glad you've been enjoying the ExfoliKate! I've really liked using it too!

I almost got that YTTP mask but wasn't sure if my picky nose could handle the scent..... I feel like I should pick up a sample of this and try it at least once though, because the results sound great! Sometimes I can put up with an off scent if I know there will be nice results! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Definitely sample it first @Shosh85; the scent will not be for everyone. The jar is pretty sizeable too so you'll definitely want to be able to be good with the scent since you'll have so much product to go through.

there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @it...

there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @itsfi I'm getting through a bunch of ds samples, so very soon I'll be able to grab some

Re: there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @it...

That's so great that you're getting through your DS masks @lmaster; such a good feeling! Can't wait to see what samples you end up getting. Smiley Wink

Re: there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @it...

@itsfi I tried the FRESH - Umbrian Clay Pore Purifying Face Mask

From the promo and that one was not available anymore,,,,boooo lol fingers crossed it will come back soon!

Re: there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @it...

I'll keep my eyes open and tag you if I see it pop up again here or elsewhere @lmaster! <3

Re: there are a couple yttp masks I'm super interested in @it...

Thank you @itsfi 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Bit of a weird mix for fruit and veggies week but - I used the ORIGINS - By All Greens™ Foaming Deep Cleansing Maskand the Kokostar Tropical Eye Patches in Coconut 🍊🥦🥕🥬🥥

96D3DCCA-4127-4ADC-A6DB-BA7FEE31FF21.jpegOrigins - this is billed as a foaming kaolin clay mask with spirulina, green tea and spinach that is supposed to clean out pores. It’s also supposed to have a soothing cooling effect. A closer read of the ingredients showed that aside from the spirulina and spinach, this mask also has broccoli, carrot, bergamot, coconut and orange. So basically, salad for your face!

I put a couple pumps of the green-juice coloured gel onto my hands and applied a thin layer on my face. It immediately foamed up to a mint green lather. I definitely noticed the cooling right away! It was a little tingly too, but not uncomfortable. It smelled faintly of orange essential oils which was slightly noticeable for a few mins while on but was pleasant. My bottle didn’t have directions as to how long to leave it on for, so I left it on for about 15 mins as per the reviews on the Sephora product page. The foam started to dry down and disappear around the 10 min mark and was a little tight (I’m assuming because of the clay), but I could still move my face. I splashed some warm water and used my Foreo to Remove the mask. It foamed right back up when it came into contact with water and came off easily. My face feels so clean and soft!! I definitely feel like my pores are decongested, and the clay was not at all drying. I didn’t have that tight feeling after removing it that is normally associated with clay masks. A definite A+ for me! I think I’ll mainly use this as the second step of a double cleanse for days when I wear heavy makeup or foundations

Kokostar patches - another DNF unfortunately. These silver patches are completely fragrance free, which I love for my eye area, which is easily irritated. They’re a squishy silver gel patch of medium size. I can get the thicker part to go right under my eye, and the tail is perfectly curved towards my brow. This isn’t the first time I’ve used these (I committed to the 30 pair package), but somehow I did something wrong this time around. They wouldn’t stay on my face! It was a slippery mess and after 5 mins of repositioning every 30 seconds I gave up. I did use a pair last week and found that they adhered very well. I left them on for about 15 mins, and my undereye looked very bright and was super hydrated after use. I think next time I’ll let some of the serum drip off back into the container before applying because I think maybe they were too wet this time around, and couldn’t dry down. Based on what I remember from the time I successfully used them last week, I’ll give them a tentative B until I try them again.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A salad for your face, @cianni? I love it!! The Origins mask sounds like a great! Always good to have a cleansing mask on hand. Smiley Happy Sorry about the Kocostar eye masks - I usually wear eye masks under a sheet mask to keep them in place.
