2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I still have a bunch of Yadah masks to get through and I'm getting some good motivation to try them with these positive reviews on them! Glad to hear this was an A for you!

I just finished up a couple products, so I'm thinking I'll finally try out that Origins masks! I'm super excited to put that yummy stuff on my face! 😃🍑

Good for you for public masking! Nothing like a good mask session to lighten and relax the mood! So nice of you to share some masks with family! 🤗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Good for you for having the self-restraint to hold off opening a new mask immediately @Shosh85 😄  I am curious to hear your thoughts on the Origins! I am trying to be good with not opening new ones but I’m always curious about the scent.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm loving Yaddah as a brand as well @eshoe .  I'll have to keep an eye out for the cleanser.  I just signed up for amazon prime to get the butt mask for this weekend... so I strongly suspect the free shipping will reel me in to some couch shopping, and I see yaddah has a few things up there!

Congratulations on public masking.  I'll bet your family really enjoyed some levity at such a hard time.

Masking sure does = <3... this thread is proof enough!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie I am pretty curious about the Bawdy mask, I’m sure it will be interesting 😂  I found the Yadah on a K-beauty site when I was looking for a sub for the belif bubbling pore cleanser. It was a totally random buy but a good one. Doesn’t always work out that way!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Funny you mention a bubbling pore cleanser @eshoe ! I just saw one the other day at Winners and was trying to figure out if I needed it. I want to say it was Holika Holika, but... now it’s gonna bug me lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Don’t you hate that @missjeanie

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe @It’ll come to mind around 2am, three tuesdays from now lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yep yep @missjeanie  Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I curious how you've been using the Bite scrub. I liked when I first tried it but working my way through a deluxe sample, at some point it started tearing at my lips ..and without removing the dead skin. I've read a million reviews and watched videos to ensure I was doing it correctly but it doesn't hurt to ask again. I have a couple uses left in the deluxe sample and then a little sample pack I'm debating opening or passing on.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s pretty rough stuff @ShortErica. The granules are quite oversized and maybe too harsh for the delicate skin on your lips. I like the scrubbies (@missjeanie Smiley Wink ) but I’ve read they aren’t good for daily exfoliation. I can see why. Maybe for people who use liquid lipstick it is helpful. I don’t like the dryness of it and my lips don’t need all that heavy-duty scrubbing. Love how it feels, though-and it would be nice on the elbows.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I don’t actually like the Bite lip scrub, but if you’re in the market for something more gentle that actually works, the Revlon exfoliating lip balm is really good.  A bonus is you don’t have to dip your fingers into a pot.   It goes on rough and dissolves on your lips so you can use it and leave it on.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for the recommendation @heartsmyface. I've been debating the Sephora scrub/balm but the inconsistent scrubbies has me hesitating. I think gentle would be the way to go. I keep trying to make the bite work for me and after the first uses, it just didn't. I keep thinking I'm crazy. Thanks again!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  That’s awesome you liked them! Drink it up is one of my favs. The yadah ones have such cute packaging!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I haven't met a Drink Up I don't like, @ather - they are all soooooo good. Just right and to the point with some yummy scents along the way. What's not to loveSmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  I agree. I’m more likely to use a mask if the scent is good. If it’s not great I won’t reach for it. And added bonus with drink it up it’s so moisturizing

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 22 - May 27 - Jun 2 - V - Guess that Mask

I am not exactly sure how to do this but I will try. I am currently wearing the mask and instructions say to leave it on 20-30 minutes.

More clues

  • V also applies to this mask
  • There are 10 varieties in this line
  • It is a Japanese brand
  • Ladies are commonly featured on the packaging
  • I received this mask as a gift but I won't tag the person yet

My face:

20190527_121805.jpgI'm wearing a towel - I promise!20190527_121857.jpgSnipping does help! Yay for using scissors!

I will share more later. Good luck guessers!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica This is awesome.  I wasn't sure how to do a 'guess my mask' theme... but you hit it bang on!  I was reading through your clues and I was trying to guess all the way through.  Only thought of the brand after your hint on the imagery. Glad this one turned out pretty good for you; even if you had to do some snipping! lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie I wasn't sure how to do it either and just went for it. Glad it worked out and I have enjoyed seeing others' clues for their masks.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

First I'll post my thoughts then I'll post the answer.

I researched these masks a bit. Okay, that's maybe not accurate. I read a lot of reviews about these masks including one that discussed the entire line (more info below). I have seen them at Marshall's and the package is eye catching. But I didn't pull the trigger.

The package opened and it has maybe a spa/cleaning supply combo scent. Not bad but slight and a little different. This is a medium cotton mask. I struggled a bit unfolding it but it fit well minus the chin. A little snip snip and that was fine too.

The wear time said 20-30 minutes. I wore it 40 and it was still moist when I removed it. I love masks with a longer wear time since I use masking to unwind and relax. While wearing I really didn't notice the scent.

My face looked bright, felt plump, and I did not feel any tackiness. So I was impressed. I would say A-. When I'm faulting a mask for a slight scent that is still decent and mask material, then that's getting nit-picky. I never thought I would be a mask material snot but I guess I do prefer the thinner ones. But this one was comfortable and I enjoyed using the eye flaps as extra padding for my under eyes. I guess one other nit-picky thing is that there was practically no extra serum in the package. But if that means it all was on my face, then that is probably a good thing. Thanks @missjeanie for sending the mask my way.

Solution in spoilers:

It is the Mitomo Vitamin + Lithospermum Essence Mask

I previously read a blog about this line of masks. From that it seemed the cherry ones aren't great smell wise but the ones with lithospermum were good especially for the price. Some lithospermum had a clean scent according to the poster with some smelling stronger than others. Even though the masks seemed pretty good, the smell thing concerned me and I set my expectations maybe lower than I should have. Also noticing @missjeanie sent me a matcha one that isn't on the blogger's list, perhaps there are more than 10 in this line and my clue is inaccurate. Oops!

Here's the reviews of these masks in case you are interested:

The ones I've seen at Marshall's have been the cherry ones. If there were other lithospermum varieties I might have to give them a go. I think I have 3 others to try thanks to @missjeanie and @eshoe so I will be happy to try them out and compare them to this one. Smiley Happy
