2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you for the suggestion @faeriegirl & @eshoe . I don’t have that product but I will look for a salve and if I can’t find one I will go to a freestanding Sephora to purchase it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You’re welcome @Loretta55. You could easily get by with a sample, that stuff lasts and lasts. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thursday's masks included a newbie and an oldie but goodie.

IMG_7893.JPGThursday AM - W is for water

Dr. Althea Water Glow Skin Renewal Hydro Gel Mask is a 2-piece hydrogel mask that was part of an old Facetory subscription box. It has a soft, pleasant citrus and floral scent to it, which makes sense when you look at the ingredients list – for those with sensitive skin, you should definitely check the ingredients list, there’s quite a bit of essential oils in this one and a few floral extracts that tend to have stronger scents, like jasmine and honeysuckle. As with many hydrogel masks, this has quite a bit of slip to it, which can make it a little challenging when removing it from the pouch and applying it to the face, but once it was on, it adhered pretty well, little to no issues with it sliding down. The bottom half of this mask fits my face pretty well; the top half is too short at the forehead and too wide at the nose and the sides for my face shape and features. I removed the mask an half hour later and my complexion looked refreshed and hydrated. As the essence continues to dry down and absorb into the skin, there’s a very, very slight tackiness to the touch. It’s light enough that I suspect it would dissipate on its own fairly quickly, and it’s a non-issue once I followed up with my moisturizer. It’s a “maybe” mask for me – it’s fine but it’s not such a standout that I’d run to pick up more despite having plenty of masks to get through, but if I had it, I would happily use it. Continuing with the water theme, I reached for the bkr paris water lip balm, which makes my lips soft and moisturized.

IMG_7990.JPGThursday PM - W is for the wonderful What Happened Last Night? mask

Leaders Insolution Daily Wonders What Happened Last Night? is a staple in my mask stash and one I’ve talked about before on this and last year’s masking thread. It’s touted as a radiance revitalizing mask and it’s one I reach for when my skin just needs a little something extra. This cotton mask has a fresh, clean signature sheet mask scent and makes for a great skin / makeup prep. I used it last night before heading out to dinner and after half an hour of wear time, my skin felt soft and smooth and looked radiant and refreshed – the dewiness from this one came through under my makeup to give me a lovely lit-from-within glow.

this Dr athea mask gave me a hard time I recall @itsfi 😆...

this Dr athea mask gave me a hard time I recall @itsfi 😆 good to hear about the leaders mask, love that lit from within glow

Re: this Dr athea mask gave me a hard time I recall @itsfi 😆...

@lmaster, was it the fit or the serum that you had a hard time with? Leaders sheet masks have generally been good to me. Smiley Wink

Re: this Dr athea mask gave me a hard time I recall @itsfi 😆...

@itsfi it was the fit, i think it kept coming up off my face in areas

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The name of this mask is almost enough to make me wanna try it @itsfi. I’m a sucker for catchy names.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So with ya @divaknits! The names of the masks in the Daily Wonders line from this brand have some clever names.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I've almost bought the Dr. Althea mask a couple times but always decide against it at the last minute because it's the more expensive one. If it's just a "maybe" for you then I think I'm feeling good about passing on it.

The Leaders mask sounds so great! I've only tried "Break Up With Your Ex-Skin Cells" from this line, but really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to try more from the line and I think I'll have to start with this one! I'm glad to hear it worked out so well! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, I think based on all the masks you've tried, there's probably something comparable or better that you've used before. It's one I would use if I had it but not one I'd run to buy in order to have it to use. The Leaders mask in this line have some fun names. I'm trying to think whether I've tried the "Break Up With your Ex-Skin Cells" mask; I think I have; if not, I'm sure I have it. Smiley Wink Will have to check that out soon.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I totally forgot I also used the Bye, Bye to Dry one, and that one was wonderful! I definitely will be buying that one again! 👌

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  thanks for the Dr. Althea review. I think I've seen it reviewed here before and it wasnt a mask to rush and go try. I also have this from the Facetory sub and I pass it up so often. Should pull it out just to compare.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17 after reading @lmaster's review awhile back on the Dr. Althea mask I passed it over a number of times. Once I tried it I was pleasantly surprised because I had zero expectations Smiley Very Happy Works (almost) every time.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yep @eshoe @GalPalVal17 @itsfi everybody's experience can be different

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17, I know the feeling. I’m not sure how long this mask has been in my bin before I reached for it. I like how it adhered to my face - it fit and stayed on better than the GR hydrogel I used earlier this week.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have that leaders mask, I definitely need to try it @itsfi 😊

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl, I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the mask after you use it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love that Leader's mask, @itsfi

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, Leaders makes some great masks. One of my favorite brands.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi sometimes it's so nice to just use something you know you like - and lol on the name of that

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888, the names on the masks from the Leaders Daily Wonders line are great - clever and amusing! This one and their Too Much Fun In the Sun are ones I like keeping on hand. 😊
