ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Still catching up on posting masks from earlier in the week, though I'm almost all caught up. A newbie mask to me - Z is for Zen!

IMG_8237.JPG

BrandGirl Talk
Mask NameLavender and Zen Some
Type of MaskSheet
Material (if sheet mask)Cotton (medium thickness)
Essence / SerumWatery-liquid (and lots of it - it was dripping in it)
Extra Essence in pouch?Yes, plenty for neck, shoulders, decollete, arms
Intended PurposeCalm / Cleanse / Moisturize
Notable IngredientsLavender
FitStandard in that it was too at chin and too small at eyes and mouth; adjustments needed at corners of eyes, mouth and nose
ScentLavender and men's cologne (likely from the added fragrance) that I can't place the name - the initial lavender scent was nice and I wished it would have lingered on. The mens cologne scent lingered even after I removed the mask; it wasn't an offensive scent but I would have preferred if it was the lavender scent that lingered.
Suggested Wear Time20 minutes
Notes The initial intake of lavender was really nice - relaxing and calming; really wished that would have lingered. This one is dripping with essence and even after an half hour of wear time, there was a ton of essence remaining, but it was easily and quickly absorbed when I patted the extra into my skin. No tacky feeling which is a huge plus and my skin did feel moisturized. I could definitely see those with oily or normal skin foregoing moisturizer after using this one. I have dehydrated skin that varies from dry or combo depending on the season or climate / weather - in the winter, I would definitely follow up with a moisturizer but in the warmest part of the summer or if I'm somewhere humid, I could see even myself skipping moisturizer after this one; or just following up with a light layer of a lighter gel based (vs. cream based) sleeping mask.
Repurchase?Maybe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh @itsfi I am afraid the men’s cologne-likeness would have been an absolute deal-breaker for me. Cute mask name, though!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It was definitely not one of those mens colognes that made me go "oooh, what's that scent?" @eshoe, but more of a scent that made me think "oh, I really hope this one doesn't linger ..." 😞 And then, of course, it did linger. Of course it would have. lol.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They always do when you want them to just quietly go away @itsfi. Always😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love this review set up!! @itsfi Zen is sounding lovely

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yay @lmaster! Thank you. 🤗 I’ll probably be using this format more going forward. I have less free time so with this, I can just cut and paste from my personal notes / spreadsheet on my masking.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That's a great idea @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi i love this post, so organized in table format!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you so much @missxmas! That's so sweet of you to say. I usually keep track of my masking in a table / excel format. Mine doesn't look exactly like this but I copy and paste it this way for posting because it's easier to read.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I definitely wouldn’t like the scent but other than that is sounds pretty good @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl, yeah, the scent on this one is a bit of a downer. If it kept the lavender scent, it'd be fantastic. The lingering mens' cologne is not one I wanted to linger, but it eventually faded away after I removed the mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Wow this review is so detailed! Thanks so much!! I don’t know why they always make these masks so small in the eye area. My eyes aren’t big, and the sheet masks are still almost always too small for me in the eyes area 🙈

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So true @annahoang!! I feel the same way - my eyes are not particularly big or wide, but I find that I need to make some adjustments to the corners of the eye area on most, if not all, sheet masks I have.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Love the name of this one - that's pretty clever! 😂 The scent is probably one that I wouldn't like, and it's too bad 'cause it sounds like it has some great results!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh @Shosh85, I agree - I really don't think this scent is going to agree with you. It was just too much and it stuck around longer than most scents, longer than it needed to really. lol!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Anyone need an Ulta code? I don’t order from them online (hello duties) and am no where near a store.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have one, too, and I won’t be using it. Please pm if you want it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thursday night was the last of the SNP jelly vita line that I have. The firming mask was in line with the others with regards to mask material (thin mesh like), and jelly consistency. I did find when I unfolded the mask that some parts that were folded to the inside had wayyyyy less moisture to them than the putter jelly covered bits. Once I put the mask on, snipping between the eyes as usual, I took some of the extra jelly (there was more than enough) and slathered it on the mask—and my legs. This felt lovely, as I’m learning do most jelly masks for me. I left it on for my usual half hour. I will day however that it wasn’t AS moisturizing as the hydrating mask. Which is to be expected. I can’t really speak to any firming effects. My skin did feel nice though. The firming would be a filler mask for me. I don’t generally look to firming masks, so I’m not the best judge on this one. Overall winner for me— hydrating! Gave some extra plump to my skin. They’re all winners though. A solid pack to pick up if you see them at Winners/TJs.

Big thanks to @eshoe @for sending me two of these bad boys! My love for jelly continues! 6DCE69EE-24F9-4B97-B44D-E19E5A64BCB2.jpeg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Nonbuyers remorse, that's a feeling right? Glad these a lovely. @missjeanie I'll know to get jelly masks in my collection next time I see them though, especially the hydrating. Lesson learned.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Lol. It is 100% a thing @ShortErica !!  I’ve got a few extra I’ll send down to you! Give me a week or so!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You dont have to send me anything @missjeanie. I've got how many hundred I need to try! 🤣
