2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  I totally understand that. Just know I'm here if you need me. 😘😘😘

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@veronika23  I am always in awe of @heartsmyface and her hair. She seems to be able to pull off all colors beautifully!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint  me too! And yes I agree. Everything looks good on @heartsmyface!  I miss the days when I used to color my hair all different shades. It's been years since I've had my hair colored. Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@veronika23  I’ve never done a fun color before... just highlights. I would love to try a fun shade, but I’m not very good with upkeep. From what I’ve read, it seems like most of the vivid colors require a good deal of maintenance.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint  it’s not so bad if you get a tinted conditioner to redeposit color everytime you wash your hairSmiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  Do they make one that works for your current color?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint   My hairdresser sold me a ready made copper one.  Not sure how it’s going to play out but I suppose it’s all part of the journey.  If I don’t like it I can always go back for a touch up and ask her to mix one up for me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  I hope it works! Your hairdresser is very talented, by the way! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They do require a lot of upkeep. If you can find some semi permanent color that you can do your own maintenance with it is much better. That or Revlon has or had colored conditioners that used to work really well for maintaining certain colors... just needed gloves to apply it or it would stain your hands. Smiley Very Happy  @PrettyPaint

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooh thanks @veronika23. I could probably handle a colored conditioner at least!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint  yeah that's pretty easy! Even some semi perm colors are easy to use to re-deposit color. It just takes a bit more time in your hair than the conditioner would.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface ,

I'm also sending you hugs!Image result for hugs gifs

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@tsavorite   Thank you!  Much appreciatedSmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface, on the list these two beauties go. Since I can't be there in person to give you a hug, this'll have to do...

Thinking of you, hearts!! <333

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi   Thank you for the support.  They’re really good.  Hopefully you won’t actually need them but then again who doesn’t need a little help looking refreshed and unscathed by lack of sleep every now and then?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

When I first heard of the “Blind Pick Your Mask” Theme, I was both excited and nervous. What a cool, fun and fresh idea! Love the creativity @veronika23!! <333 I was a little anxious about it because my skin sometimes has a mind of its own – what if I pick a mask my skin isn’t ready for? What if I’m too tired to use the mask I blind pick? What if…? I spent some time thinking about how to go about it so that my skin would get what it needed and the fun “Blind Pick Your Mask” theme would be well implemented.

The Methodology

I came up with a few ideas and grabbed a variety of masks – sheet masks, wash off masks, sleeping masks, hair masks, foot masks, etc., some of which were ones that I’ve neglected or forgotten and others that I’ve been wanting to try out. To make things fair (if I put them in a bag, I could probably feel my way to deciphering what the mask was), I wrote the names of the masks I pulled out on sheets of scratch paper, folded them up and placed them in separate bags based on the type of product/mask – i.e., the papers with names of sleeping masks went into one bag; wash offs and sheet masks went into another; hair masks in another, etc., etc. Then, last night, I decided to make it Multi-Masking Monday and plucked out tags for 3 items – an exfoliating treatment, a mask and a sleeping mask and … voila…

The Masks

All 3 masks I blind picked were ones that I’ve used before, though not all together. Started with the TARTE - Knockout Tingling Treatment Mini. It’s an appropriately named product as it does tingle. Not in a bad way. It’s been a while since I’ve reached for it and in hindsight, I probably should have dampened the cotton pad with a little water to dilute the potency a bit but it turned out fine, since I followed it up with the  FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask. This hasn’t been a favorite mask of mine - there’s nothing wrong with the mask; my experiences with it have just been pretty ‘meh’ though – not bad, but nothing spectacular about it, though I do enjoy the cooling effect to it. Last night, I enjoyed the cooling and soothing aspect of the mask that much more after the Tarte Knockout. It felt very nice on my skin and left it soft and lightly hydrated. I followed up with my moisturizer and went about the rest of my evening. Then, before turning out the lights, I applied the FRESH - Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask Mini, a smooth creamy mask with the texture of mashed potatoes and the spa-like calming scent of cucumbers, that I’ve found works best on my skin as an overnight mask. Woke up very early this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, but despite that, my skin looked refreshed, hydrated and ready for the start of my day, even if it looked like it was still nighttime. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I love your blind pick system - that's a great way to do it! 👌

I'm not a big fan of the FAB mask, but I can see how nice it'd be after the Tarte! I love that Fresh mask - the consistency of it is wonderful 😃 Glad you had such a great masking session!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, I agree; the FAB mask is not a go to mask and I don’t plan on picking up a full size after going through this DS but I am glad that I’ve found a way to make it work. Now the Fresh mask on the other hand is lovely! 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Cute idea, @itsfi !

I have the mini of the Fresh black tea instant perfecting mask on the way as part of the Rouge $100!  I'm looking forward to it.  I have the firming overnight mask, but give me another 10 years until I need that one.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Fun!! Oooh, I love the $100 Rouge! 🥰 Excited to see everything you picked up with that rewards! 🤩 @l8totheparty

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  The fresh sounds great! I really like their black tea line! Smiley Happy
