2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe if you could of seen my feet last night!!! It just keeps getting better and better!! 😳 ( That's me after my shower last night) now the entire bottoms are in full peel mode

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster, I love how excited you are about this peel! Yaaaaay!!! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm loving this!! 🙌

100% Pure Does It All Sheet Mask

This is a cotton sheet mask that is thin -medium in thickness and was adequately saturated with serum. The scent on this one is really hard to explain - sorta like a mix of aloe, sake and honey suckle. Not too enjoyable, but light enough it didn't bother me too much. I've learned recently that I do not like the sake scent in masks.

The fit was pretty typical, too long at the chin/jaw and just a teeny bit too wide at the temples. It was comfortable and adhered well the 30 minutes I had it on. When I removed it the little bit of serum that was left was a little tacky, but absorbed in about 10 minutes.

So now for the moment of truth - does it really do it all? Let's see;

  • Lessens lines & wrinkles - my skin did look slightly smoother
  • Brightens - holy moly! My face was SO bright!
  • Evens skin tone - sure did!
  • Boosts Collagen & Elastin - maybe? - my skin did have plumpness and bounce to it
  • Regenerates - not sure
  • Restores - I dunno
  • Moisturizes - yes
  • Hydrates - yes, and was long lasting!
  • Softens - yes
  • Anti-Inflammatory - no idea

So, it was pretty great, minus the annoying but tolerable scent. I'm not so sure I'd agree that it "does it all," I think it "does a lot" would be more of an accurate description. I'd use it again but wouldn't jump through a whole lot of trouble to repurchase, mostly due to that scent.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  Lol about the name suggestion change to Does a Lot 😂 Thanks for all the info!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Too funny @PinkEvergreen!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PinkEvergreen Ha! I definitely think that's more accurate 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I was thinking that mask is making some pretty bold claims there, @Shosh85! 'Does a lot' is what ran through my mind and then you summed it up as such Smiley Very Happy  The scent actually sounds pretty intriguing to me, but then I don't mind the scent of sake (although honeysuckle as waaaaaaay too sweet for my tastes). Nice run-down of the claims!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  Yeah, I had to buy it because I was skeptical of all it claimed it could do - had to put it to the test! I honestly was expecting it to do less, so that's nice. 😉

I think what bothered me most about the scent is that it was combo of different scents that just didn't seem to quite go well together. 🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, sometimes a scent makes a mask and sometimes it breaks it. Sorry to hear the scent wasn’t a great one for you. The mask sounds wonderful otherwise. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  It wasn't the most horrible scent ever and not bad enough that I'd never use it again, but I just wouldn't go through a lot of trouble to repurchase. It really did have some great results!

@Shosh85 sounds like it smells like alcohol? I think I've...

@Shosh85 sounds like it smells like alcohol? I think I've heard of other masks resemble this

Re: @Shosh85 sounds like it smells like alcohol? I think I've...

@lmaster It was sort of a mix of scents - it wasn't just sake. Not the worse smell ever but not enjoyable either.

Re: @Shosh85 sounds like it smells like alcohol? I think I've...

@Shosh85 I know I've used one similar to what you are describing, at least it sounds familiar 😆

Re: @Shosh85 sounds like it smells like alcohol? I think I've...

@lmaster Oh gotcha😉 I've tried some (I think Boscia was one) that had more of a definite sake scent.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have this mask!  It's good to know it is liked. @Shosh85

Also, for the price ($9 Can) it better do it all.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty  I didn't love the scent but the results turned out so great!

...... and dang, $9 is pretty spendy! I hope you like it too! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm a few days past my day in the sun to be using this mask, but I've not had time till now.  I started with my gwp HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Retinol Alternative Smoothing Serum

For the second time, and my THE ORDINARY - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

And then my mask!

It has a nice light, fresh scent.  Aloe and freshness. Calm and soft is my skin. A little short on my nose and my forehead.

A+ for the mask and A+ for an assignment.  It's an A+ sort of day.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Great masking, @l8totheparty!  I haven't ventured much into TO territory, is this used for whitening/brightening? I'm also trying out the Herbivore right now. How long have you been using it?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I've been using the Herbivore for 1.5 days so not enough time for results. You?

As for TO Niacinamide,  it's to help balance sebum and cut down on blemishes, therefore helping balance my skin.

Def. Not whitening (to my knowledge).

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That’s good to know about the niacinamide @l8totheparty, thank you!

The Herbivore is very nice so far. It’s been a couple of weeks and I’ve been using it undiluted 2-3 times/week with no adverse effects. I’m hoping to step it up when I finish it, and that the A-Passioni will smooth things out even more.
