ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Happy to help @CookieGirl1! 😃 These interested me on many levels. It was fun to try them all out around the same time as each other and to see their similarities and differences.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is superb!! @itsfi above and beyond as per usual 😉 thank you so much for this side by side info,, I'm still not too sure about the watermelon, but,,, I'm not a quitter 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Aww thank you @lmaster! 😃

And that’s right, you’re not a quitter! 😂 What would be nice is if they would put out a foil sample or DS of the mask so people could try the formula first. Or if there was a mini set, maybe for the holidays?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A little DS would be so cute @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Excellent recap of these stick masks, @itsfi! It is incredibly helpful to see them compared side by side, especially from someone I know will notice the fine details/nuances of each. Thank you for taking the time to condense your analysis. I'm pretty sold on the bamboo one myself, but they all sound nice.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @eshoe! I think the bamboo mask is one you’d enjoy, especially the scent. It’s not overpowering, just right! 🎋

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @itsfi for recapping it all in one place for us!  I am excited about the portability of these for travel masking, and am leaning toward spirulina and bamboo, but I definitely need to go through some of what I have first.  😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That makes complete sense @mrsmouse! Gotta go through your other masks first! The bamboo and spirulina are nice ones to try when you are ready.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi What an awesome recap! They all really sound great - I can see why you picked up all four! 😂 Based on your wonderful reviews, I think watermelon and spirulina would be the ones I'd pick up first. 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, yeah, I'm sure it's a total shocker that I picked up all four of the mask sticks. hahaha! I did it for research, Shosh. Yep, that's it. LOL!  🙂 If you end up picking up the spirulina and/or watermelon ones (completely understand that may not be for a while though), would love to know what you think of them.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Great post! I'm really interested in seeing the stick mask trend growing because clay masks can get messy. <333

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @PenelopeBT! Completely agree! The portability, convenience and ease of application on these are fantastic! The spirulina mask (i.e., the clay mask), was so easy to apply. I'm really looking forward to taking these with me when I travel - my last trip had some hiccups with a couple of masks exploding and/or leaking. 😞 These should make it easy peasy all around. Hoping that Sephora will be coming out with other mask sticks. 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  Thanks for the detailed recap! I love the comparison table and think I want to try watermelon mask first.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@fatimamummy, I'm so happy the chart was useful. I find it easier to see it all at once, but I don't think it comes out cleanly when viewed on the phone as opposed to a desktop/laptop. I was happily surprised by the watermelon one, by all of them actually. If you get a chance to try the watermelon mask stick, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love the recap @itsfi. Makes it very convenient. I think you swapped the color for the bamboo and charcoal. 😉 The summary table is so nice. Thanks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Whoops! 😞 Thanks @ShortErica🙂 Edited the chart to fix that.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 32 - Aug 5 - 11 - F - Blind Pick

Frudia number 2. Side note: I hate that we can't use the number sign because it tags a product. Total first world problem. Anyway, I decided to go with @Shosh85's favorite one! Thank you so much for sending it my way!

Long review

Spoiler
  • Serum - more of a gel serum on this one
  • Scent - had a mild blueberry smell which was much more pleasant. Oh, so I totally noticed there are active ingredients. The brightening mask had a citrus peel and niacinamide while this one has blueberry fruit extract. The inactive ingredient lists did look quite similar. May have to thoroughly compare for science.
  • Fit - same as yesterday, just short on the forehead
  • Wear time - I think I wore it maybe 25 minutes. I lost track of time folding clothes. Anyway, the nose was dry but the other areas were moister than yesterday. I'd suggest 20-25 minute wear time for these masks. Sample size 2. 😉
  • Tackiness - This one left a slight tackiness. Easily resolved with moisturizer and not very bothersome.
  • Extra serum - some but not a lot. I applied it to my neck, hands, and arms. I'm thinking the serum was on the outsides of the mask since this one didn't "dry down" as quickly except on the nose
  • Results - I need to pay more attention to my "before" face. I believe it had a bit of a plumping effect and helped with my sleep lines by my nose and forehead lines. Again my face looked nice. Comparing it to the brightening, the blueberry did brighten but not as much. I also think the citrus brightening one did even my face more which makes sense with the niacinamide. Not that my face was red after the blueberry but I remember definitely being in a no-makeup-needed mood yesterday and redness is usually my little issue.

Grade: A. Easy A mask. The lacking material in the forehead like the other Frudia mask is probably my only complaint on the blueberry one. No wonder it's Shosh's favorite. Though I do give it a "probably repurchase but don't need to run out and find" rating. That has a lot to do with the fact that I think I'm sitting pretty around 250 sheet masks. Plus I need to start using some of the wash off ones. So many masks and only one face! More Frudia coming up soon. 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love how you compare masks from a line @ShortErica !  I don't even remember which one I prefer best... I think I've tried Blueberry and Citrus?  And now I have a Grape!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @missjeanie! I think it helps me get a good feel if I like a brand in general and then which masks of that line that work best for my skin and preferences. I love trying them all but am realistic that I really don't need to own/repurchase them all.

this one is a nice mask for sure @ShortErica 👍 I like it...

this one is a nice mask for sure @ShortErica 👍 I like it also 😍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Totally laughing to myself about your '250+' sheet mask collection, @ShortErica. Kinda sneaks up on ya, doesn't it 😉
