ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Looking at your picture, I don't think I've used a mask with that kind of a gauze, but I'm gonna search my notes and see if I can find which ones they were. The Saem Natural-Tox masks have a sort of padded type gauzy material, but it definitely didn't look like this.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You sent me a couple of the Saem masks, @Shosh85, so I will pay extra attention to the material when I try them.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That is a really interesting mask material @eshoe .  I've never come across a mask with that type of material either.  It sounds like a good one and definitely worth a try if I come across it.  🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The brand makes another mask (Wedding Dress) which is nice, but the material is more standard @mrsmouse. Love this one!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

H is for Holika Holika and hibiscus tea

IMG_9827.JPG

Spoiler

I was super excited last night to try out this Holika Holika Hibiscus Instantly Brewing Tea Bag Mask (Hibiscus), a very thoughtful gift from the extraordinary @Shosh85. Some skincare benefits of hibiscus extract includes the stimulation of cell renewal, hydration and increasing skin elasticity. The packaging itself indicates that this mask is good for flaky skin and since my skin is beginning to show some dryness in certain areas as a result of changes in the weather, this seemed like it would be a good fit for me.

This is an interactive mask – there’s two pouches, the first containing a hibiscus tea bag that is meant to be placed in the second pouch, a resealable pouch containing the sheet mask and some watery essence. After depositing the tea bag into the second pouch, you reseal it and rub the second pouch with your palms for 1 minute to mix the tea bag and essence, before removing the mask, applying it over your skin and leaving it on for 15 minutes per the directions. You’ll see the liquid inside the second pouch turn from clear to a reddish pink hue of a hibiscus. There’s a good amount of extra essence in the pouch. The mask is on the thin side and only required me to make some cuts to the corners of the eyes and mouth and about an inch from the chin area. The forehead area was a perfect fit for me which almost never happens.

They were not kidding when they recommended leaving the mask on for 15 minutes; I could feel the mask beginning to dry out near the end of that time. I probably could have eeked out an additional 5 minutes, maybe 10 from it. There was the very slightest of excess essence on my face when I removed the mask and it absorbed really quickly. My recommendation would be to pat more onto the mask during the time you have it on to prolong the wear time. My skin did feel tacky after the essence had been absorbed but following up with moisturizer afterwards takes care of that. This was a fun mask and one that worked well for my skin - I liked that it felt soft and hydrated. Thank you shosh for sending this one my way. I’ve seen a few packs of the green tea varietal of this mask at a local TJ Maxx / Marshalls and plan to swing by this weekend to pick up a box if it’s still there.

I paired this mask with the Innisfree My Lip Balm (Wild Hibiscus), a light coral tinted nicely emollient balm containing sunflower oil, cupuacu butter and jojoba oil. The various lip balms in this particular line are primarily made of different fruits and tea and there's a very, very subtle scent to this one. I'm fighting a cold so my sense of smell may be a bit off, but to me, this lip balm has more of a generic tea scent (and again, it's really, really lightly fragranced) than a hibiscus tea scent. It adds a nice also very subtle hint of color to my lips while making them feel soft and moisturized.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi this sounds like such an interesting mask. I like hibiscus tea; I wonder if it's something I could do as a diy.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

What a neat and fun mask @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This sounds like it worked out pretty nicely, @itsfi. Interactive masking can be worth it for good results! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @quspork! 🤗 The coughing has been less frequent today so that’s a good sign. The level of interaction on this one was good - not too much or too complicated. 😉 Easy peasy and good results. 😃

that is the neatest mask I've heard of @itsfi and hibiscu...

that is the neatest mask I've heard of @itsfi and hibiscus at that! those are such beautiful flowers!

Re: that is the neatest mask I've heard of @itsfi and hibiscu...

@lmaster, the mask combines so many things I love - sheet masks, tea, flower 🌺 - I think of Hawaii when I see hibiscus, such a pretty flower! This was a fun mask @lmaster. Worth picking up if you see it! 💕

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Beautiful masking @itsfi! I am sorry you are dealing with a cold right now, this mask really does sound like the ideal remedy that @Shosh85 sent 🙂giphy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Aww, thanks @eshoe! 🤗 Such a cute gif.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m sorry that you’re dealing with a summer cold @itsfi ! The HH Hibiscus 🌺 tea mask is one I should try ! Love Hibiscus flowers ! I’ve tried but not reviewed yet the LaNeige Time Freeze mask and it was probably as thin as the HH mask and it dried up as fast as the HH mask which was a bit frustrating ( for a few reasons ). Thanks for posting the Innisfree lip balm, I didn’t know that they had lip balms! I think the majority of maskers love lip balms and masks ( I’m not the exception hehe 😜 ). Get well soon! 🤗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @keana1! 🤗 I’m hoping to shake off this cold soon - it takes the fun out of things. 😝 The Laneige sheet masks are amazing!! ♥️ I didn’t know Innisfree had lip balms either, until I saw them in the store. Of course I had to pick up a couple! 😉 The only reason I didn’t buy them all was because it was their grand opening week and they sold out of most of them. 😂🤣😂

Here’s what the consistency of the balm looks like:34B6FF11-1608-4E6E-BBF6-720E95F287DE.jpeg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @itsfi for posting a picture of the lip balm! The texture looks very smooth, are they thick enough to last for a long time without reapplying ?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1, it lasted for most of my morning, maybe 3 hours?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi When I got these, I didn't look at them very closely and didn't realize how interactive it was - I just saw that it was Holika Holika and placed in my cart right away 😂

I almost did this one this week too, but there were just too many H masks to choose from. 😉 Thanks for the heads up about putting extra serum on the mask beforehand! - that's good to know. I'm glad it turned out great for you - it definitely sounds interesting! Can't wait to try both of them!

PS: I hope you feel better soon! 🤧

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha! 😂 It’s so funny how our knee jerk reaction is to place a sheet mask in our cart first and look later, sometimes much later. Lol. 😆 This was a good one. Thank you so much for sending it my way! 💗🌺

Thank you! 🤗 It was just a sporadic cough the other day but I woke up this morning with that feeling you get when you know that your body is not feeling 100% and that each symptom is going to take its slow time making itself known. 😔 It’s 11:30am and I’ve already finished off 55 oz of water and plan to keep drinking more water all day long. This cold will NOT get the best of me! If only it were that simple. Hahaha! 🤪D920E1F4-B7A6-4F4D-B454-1132C4A4155F.jpeg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I hope your cold goes away quickly @itsfi !  It sounds like I need to add that hibiscus tea one to my stash if I come across it.  I don't tend to have flaky skin, but my skin is naturally dry and I tend to gravitate towards hydrating masks.  Plus, mixing it just sounds fun.  🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

“I tend to gravitate towards hydrating masks.” You’re speaking my language @mrsmouse! 🥰 My skin loves hydrating masks!!! 💦

Thank you. 🤗 I’ve been trying to go to bed earlier to get in some more rest. I’m hoping this cold goes “bye bye” soon.
