2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks, @missjeanie! I really don't understand why they feel added fragrance is necessary. 🤔😕 Usually when it's at the bottom of the list it's not so bad, but I'd still rather it was just left out completely.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 Right!  Especially when you're including other ingredients that already have a lovely scent to them without the fragrance needing to be added!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I really love your posting format, @Shosh85! You cover everything and it’s always entertaining to see your mask photo😂 I haven’t tried this one but I did use the silver one and thought it was really nice. I do like the 2-piece foil masks over the 1-piece masks for sure, though!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I definitely prefer the two peice ones better – you can always get them to fit better (or remove the bottom half so you can eat. Haha!) This one looks like a two peice because of where the fold is, but it's just one peice. I tried the Silver one a while back, and I think I liked that one better than the gold. 🙃😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh @Shosh85 I must have missed that-yes this does look like a 2-piecer!

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Gave my skin a break last night but tonights mask on the menu for G week is I Dew Care Ginger Aid energizing ginger clay mask. My hubs confirmed that this does in fact smell like ginger. (it was a "babe, smell my face🤣 type thing) It didn't smell that great while it was in the bottle so I was a bit worried but after it gets on your face, you really smell the ginger. So if you dont like ginger, this mask is not for you🤭. I was ok with it (it smelled better than the first scent) It also has a cooling effect while on which was nice. I left it on for about 15 min. My skin did feel clean, my pores less visible (my nose was shiny- clean.) It has kiwi seeds that gently exfoliates while you wash off. I think it maybe too gentle at exfoliating for me so if I purchase again it will be the mini "cans" as a set. Which I hope is still in stock at Ulta in store. They are not online. 😯 I'll give it a A-. As long as I dont have any dks tomorrow🧐. After I applied my Grande lash, I used a ds I'm trying to kill BRTC jasmine sleeping mask, it's ok. Just been hangin' around to long. Happy masking guys!

I really love the scent of ginger when I'm cooking! @sonnydee idk if I've smelled Ginger in a mask before...I have tried the fab Ginger, just can't remember it smelling like the ginger I cook with lol 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee, Ginger Ade sounds great!! 👍🏼 I like that these I Dew Care masks are available in a mini set! Makes it easier to use it up and allows for variety! That Gudetama hair band is very cute!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee The I Dew Care sounds like something I'd like! The results sound pretty great! I ask my husband to sniff things for me all the time, and every time he looks at me as though I'm about to pull a prank on him and make him smell poo or something. Haha! I have to reassure him I just want a second opinion! 😂😂

I love that headband! I think they need to make the "meh" a little bigger, and it'd be even more perfect. 😆😄😉

it didnt tighten too much & I think I left it on longer than the directions ask for (10-15). I'm guessing at 15 but it was probably more 20-25. I'm bad about keeping watch. 🤗I didnt find it very hydrating but it didnt dry my skin either. Maybe summer time for your dry skin? @Shosh85

Re: it didnt tighten too much & I think I left it on longer t...

@sonnydee Yes, I agree, it does sound more like a summer mask for me. 👍😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Man there are so many great detox and exfoliating masks @sonnydee! I was planning to head there this weekend, I’ll see if they have any in stock. Last time I went (a week or so ago?) they had most of them on clearance.

last time I was in store -when they had space kitten as the deal of the day-They had alot of stuff on sale/clearance on the I dew care section. I love the minis. It's good for my picky skin to try before I buy a fs. But I've noticed they dont have alot of the fs in the clay masks anyways online or in store. So if I fall in love with one. I'm guessing I'll be on the hunt.😬 @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thursday night’s mask was all about hydration.

Hydration is the key to my dehydrated-dry skin looking its best, so the days leading up to any special occasion will undoubtedly involve hydrating masks. This time, I started with the Aquaphor Lip Repair to soften and moisturize my lips and the AmorePacific Enzyme Treatment Peel, a hands down favorite of mine, to slough away dead skin and make my skin clear and ready for the skincare benefits from the ingredients in the For Beloved One Hyaluronic Acid GHK-Cu Moisturizing Bio-Cellulose Mask. Since it’s a bio-cellulose mask, it is thinner than cotton sheet masks, but this one felt larger, slightly thicker and holds more essence than other bio-cellulose masks I’ve used. I wouldn’t say it was dripping with essence but the mask itself certainly felt a little heavier and more on the slimy side than other bio-cellulose mask as a result of all the essence it held. The eye holes are larger than most which was nice; only a small snip here and there, same with the mouth hole. The eye holes were so large that I had to use much of the eye flaps to cover the under eye area.

Notable ingredients are high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (hydration) and copper tripeptides (locks in moisture). After leaving the mask on for 40 minutes (recommended time is 10-20 minutes, but I lost track of time), I removed the mask. My face had quite a bit of essence that needed to be absorbed, but my skin drank it all in, with no tackiness left behind. My skin felt super hydrated and more firm in certain places too, and looked fresh and bright. It’s an “A” for me.  For Beloved One is a Taiwanese brand and there's a whole range of products in this hyaluronic acid line. I really like this sheet mask and after I’ve made some dents in my current stash of products, I’m definitely interested in looking at the other skincare items from this range.

@itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

@itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it! now I have a question, hydrating and moisturizing.. what is the major difference between these

Re: @itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

@lmaster, isn't the peel great!

Good question; it took me a while to understand the difference between hydrating and moisturizing. Moisturizing products are designed to seal moisture into the skin, while hydrating products are used to increase the amount of water in the skin. Another way to look at it and one that helped make the distinction a little easier for me was to think about the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin.  If skin is dehydrated, it needs water. Those with dry, oily or combination skin can be dehydrated. On the other hand, skin that is dry lacks oil and need to be moisturized. Does that help? If not, let me know and I'll try to be more clear.

Re: @itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

Yes @itsfi  this info most Definitely has made it clear now! I need both 😂 I have dehydrated combo/ oily skin. I get it now, thanks so much 😘

Re: @itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

Oh good, glad it was helpful, @lmaster! Once I learned the difference, it helped to know what to look for in skincare products. Your skin is similar to mine - for most of the year, I'm dehydrated-combo (oilier in the summer months and oily T-zone for spring and fall) and then mostly dehydrated-dry in the wintertime. I need both hydration and moisture. Yay us! Smiley Happy

Re: @itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

Most definitely @itsfi I love how knowledgeable you are!

Re: @itsfi I just tried the peel the other day, and loved it!...

Interesting!  @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi sounds like a great mask!  I'll need to add it to my list to check out, I just love anything with hyaluronic acid lately.  Interesting that they combine two different weights. Makes me wonder what some of the hyaluronic I use is?
