2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888 sorry these products didn’t work out for you. At least the peel worked for you

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Okay!  The book bins arrived today!!  The masks fit beautifully.  Some of the bins arrived broken but I have enough unbroken ones to do the job for nowSmiley Happy  Theyre all sorted by type and i can see them a all now!  Yay!!!  My next project is to pull all my sleeping masks, mud masks and anything masky and store them near my sheet masks.

very nice @heartmyface! I have mine like that but in clear acrylic ones I found at Ross. It has been great! so quick & easy to find what I'm looking for.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Looks cozy in there @heartsmyface! 💗 your masking organizational management skills👍🏼😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyfaceThis picture makes me so happy!  You did a fantastic job organizing everything!  Very inspiring!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Omg this is amazing @heartsmyface

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  This looks great and makes me go "aaaah"!! I love how you can see them and grab the one you want!! Great idea!!😘😊

love your organization @heartmyface 😉

love your organization @heartmyface 😉

Re: love your organization @heartmyface 😉

It’s slowly getting there.  @lmaster Ideally I want to get as much out of my drawers as possible so I can see and be reminded of what I have.

Re: love your organization @heartmyface 😉

Great idea! @heartsmyface

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface Oh I love the organization. Lots of lovely masks!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface My goodness, this looks great! I might have to steal this idea Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@RebeccaBT  Steal away!  The bins fit sheet masks nearly perfectly!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface Oooh, this looks great.... and therapeutic 😍😂 Mine are just organized by brand at the moment, but I like the idea of sorting them by type! You've given me some inspiration! 🙌🤩

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah, I’m happy.  They’re taking up more space than they were before but this makes more sense.    I had been storing my masks by size before which to me was more visually appealing, but them being lined up is also nice to look at.  @Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooooh, look at all those masks! @heartsmyface

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They’re so satisfying to look at.  If anyone walks in in my gazing into my closet like this they’re gonna have me committed!  😍🤪🥰 @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  yes but your skin will be 🤩

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’ll vouch for you @heartsmyface! It’s perfectly normal to gaze at all your lovely masks like that!! 😍 But that may mean we’re both going to be committed. 😂🤣

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Wow this is the week that will never end!

Last night:1CBF70D7-038F-41A2-9147-CFBFA2B02D3A.jpegLP, Amika, Origins, Sephora & Glossier

Last night I had no desire to sheet mask; I needed some fruity, fresh palette cleansers and these came to the rescue, including the ORIGINS - Drink Up™ 10 Minute Hydrating Mask with Apricot & Swiss Glacier Water and SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub. Notable was my second use of the LIVING PROOF - Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo As with my first use, my hair was squeaky clean, as in, I could hear it squeaking as I ran my hands down it. I applied the AMIKA - Soulfood Nourishing Mask (I used the Olaplex 3 last time) and this seemed to be a better blend for my hair. I don’t need to use the shampoo often, but I love pairing it with my deep conditioning days. Like the last LP gratis (the Body Builder), it will be a product that fits nicely in with my hair care routine.

Today:D88933EA-6E35-4782-90B5-C7BFB7E7C03D.jpegLush, Mediheal, Laneige & Perricone MD

Along with the Mediheal placenta mask, I purchased the equally enticing Horse Oil Proatin Mask with Jeju Horse Oil (10,000 ppm!!! can you just feel the excitement!). Mind you this is not just any horse oil. It’s oil from horses living on the Jeju volcanic island off the southern coast of South Korea. The rich volcanic ash soil and mineral spring water must be the best place for vegetation to grow to feed these very special horses😄.

I gotta say, I was even more uncomfortable with this one than the placenta mask. However, I was not going to let the mask sit in my drawer for another year, and after purposing to use it this evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about it and dreading tonight’s masking. So I decided to do a lunchtime mask.

I opened the mask and I’m not joking, it smelled like fresh hay. I was probably delirious from wanting to get it over with so quickly but that’s the scent that stuck with me so I’m going with it! The serum is milky, and thick (normally I’m a fan of, but my stomach is turning). There are very odd eye flaps which are each connected at the inner eye part and just sadly dangled in front of my eyes like a droopy mane. The mouth flap is connected at the top, which I immediately patted onto the part in between the nose and mouth. I do not want 10k ppm horse oil in my mouth. I contemplated immediately removing it but instead set my timer for 10 minutes and tried my best to stay busy.

Once it went off I removed it and took a photo to show the eye and lip flaps. I can’t speak for the tackiness, I rinsed this baby off so fast. My skin looked great. Bouncy, bright, smoothed forehead and skin. Fantastic results, A-/B+, but as with the placenta, never again. I am officially done with my gross masking😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sounds like lots of great masking @eshoe  ! I also find the Amika mask a good fit for my hair! So hydrating!
