ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

YES, @GalPalVal17 - when I first looked in the mirror I was terrified it was my skin 😱! So thank goodness for that, on to the next mask;)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

thanks for all the reviews @eshoe - sorry the scents got to you this masking session! Definitely a fine line between natural scents and super artificial ones!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I never thought I'd be one in the 'unscented is >scented' camp @Kim888, but the natural scents of a lot of the Detox masks has be pining for something better than fake fragrances.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Spoiler
So I also used the Momonde mask from allure for Spring themed weeks. Like other's have mentioned there was no protective layer even though the instructions said there was. I thought the mask was fine - it had a slightly tingly feeling. I didn't leave a tacky feeling but it felt like the serum was sort of sitting on top of my skin rather than absorbing in. I feel like my skin has been SO dry so used my Grown Alchemist body cream that I got on sale from Fabfitfun. I love the moisturizer itself but the scent sort of smells like orange cleaning product.

Spoiler
I also used Innisfree Oatmeal sheetmask and the Skyn Iceland berry lip fix. I thought the mask was kind of just there. Everything was okay, fit was okay, moisturizing effects were okay, but it wasn't anything special. I like the lipfix but I feel like it's too berry-y haha.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Interesting on the mamonde. I was recommended the brand recently on a trip.  There’s a soothing rose lotion that really helped with my windburn from boating.  I guess that was maybe the effect of it sitting on the skin and forming a barrier.  @Kim888

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Interesting @Kim888 and thanks for sharing your Mamonde opinion. How long did you leave the mask on? Hope your next masking experience is better!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888 Too bad the sheet masks were kind of a bummer – I'm not too fond of the 'sitting on top of the face' feel either. They sure make those Mamonde masks super pretty though!

I've never heard of Grown Alchemist before – I totally know what you mean by the orange cleaning product smell though! I've run into a lot skincare products (especially the vitamin C ones) that are supposed to smell citrusy, but just smell like orange pledge to me. Glad it at least moisturized for you. 👍😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888I saw your body cream and thought the Orange/Rosemary scent would be so nice, too bad it wasn't quite up to par.  I keep seeing everyone using this lip treatment and meaning to dig mine out, but I'm feeling like after seeing reviews it just may not be worth it.

I love how you described these @Kim888 you felt like the...

I love how you described these @Kim888 you felt like the mask was just there 😂😂 yeah I get that with some masks too 😉

Re: I love how you described these @Kim888 you felt like the...

You know what mask immediately comes to mind when I think of the serum just sitting there?  That dr Brandt  magnetic mask.  It just left this residue that didn’t appear to do anything.  The process of removing the magnetic layer was messy and fun but what a waste of time. @lmaster

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I've been curious about the Skyn lip fix, @Kim888, but don't love too much of a flavor on those things, so I'm glad you mentioned that!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ha, I tossed my berry lippy into my empties bag.  I couldn’t stand it!  @Kim888

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ah the body cream's description of rosemary and mandarin sounded so good @Kim888, but no thanks to cleaning products 😄 The Berry lip product is kinda strange. Looking forward to using mine up!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh, I never knew Innisfree had an oatmeal mask in that line @Kim888. That particular line has so many variations it’s hit or miss what will work really well for your skin and what is just okay.

Good to know about the Mamonde rose mask. 🌹 I plan on using it later this week and have been taking notes on everyone’s thoughts here. You mentioned it had a slightly tingly feeling - did that go away after a while or did you feel it the entire time or most of the time you had the mask on?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I would say the whole time - it wasn't harsh or anything just that extra cooling tingling effect that  masks sometimes give

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ohhhh, got it. Thanks so much for letting me know @Kim888! 🙂 I get a smidge antsy when I hear tingling from a sheet mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

In continuation of spring florals, the hello kitty cherry blossom essence face pack (😪quote the mouthful). I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) @eshoe and @itsfi you’ve already tried this one? I didn’t refer back to your reviews prior to trying because I wanted to make my own first impressions, but now I’m curious if we all had similar experiences!02082DC2-6583-4C8A-96A2-6EE054AB2BF6.jpeg

Spoiler

To be totally honest I’m half disappointed in this one, which makes me EXTRA disappointed because I wanted to love it so much! First off - it comes in packs of 7 (weekly supply). I’ll use the rest of them this week to see if I get better results, because that’s the intended use. I know it’s better for the environment, but I’m concerned about them drying out now that I’ve opened the pack. Also, I would have preferred if they had separators between the masks, like sliced cheese 😂. I couldn’t find a ton of information, aside from the fact that it is for hydration, and should be left on 15-20 minutes. The smell is beautiful - a soft light floral scent that did remind me of cherry blossoms. I really liked that a lot. The fit was weird, but not the worst. It was too long in the forehead and chin, but nothing some scissors or folding wouldn’t be able to manage. Mine felt pretty dry, and there wasn’t a lot of serum in the package. I really could only leave it on for 20 minutes because it was drying up and wouldn’t adhere to my chin after that. After removal my face did feel fresh and hydrated, and I detected a slight amount of scent left which was refreshing. It was just a touch tacky, but I didn’t mind. I applied some lotion from the dermatologist thAt dries out my skin to no end after (I’m supposed to use it every other night but it’s just too drying for that, so I use it maybe 2x a week). After that absorbed, I applied squalane facial oil on top and went to bed. My face didn’t feel tight, there were no dry patches or peeling this morning, and because I forgot to apply my sleeping mask after the squalane, I’m going to attibute it to the sheet mask. I’d give it a B because it was dry and the packaging is a touch inconvenient if you don’t want to use it every day for a week, but the results are good and the scent is nice. I’d use it again but probably wouldn’t seek it out, just because there are so many other masks that provide hydration. Also A BIG missed opportunity by not having it printed with HK... just saying 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hmmmm... I wonder if this type of a mask would be nice to use in the summer when it's so much warmer out.  Put them in the fridge for more of a refreshing/light moisture mask? @cianni  I feel like with a big muggy heat wave, I'd like to mask daily, either at night or in the am!

@cianni awwww booooo others too bad, I've not tried this...

@cianni awwww booooo others too bad, I've not tried this particular one, but no images on the mask is a deal breaker for sure! 😂

Re: @cianni awwww booooo others too bad, I've not tried this...

@lmaster right! I wanted to look like hello kitty and confuse my dogs with it on 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@cianni, I’m sorry this one didn’t meet your expectations. 😔 I received a pack from @Indy701 as well. When it comes to masks in packs like this, I use them as daily masks, to get some, but not a lot of hydration to my skin. To me, the benefit of these types of masks is in the daily use and a pack works best for most but not all skin types when you use the masks consecutively. I place masks like this in the fridge once I open it and I use a pair of mini tongs or tweezers to remove them from the pouch, or to separate one enough from the others so that I can pull one out easily.
