2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 so much drooping 😄 But yes for some baby soft skin! Do you let yours sit just a bit before applying it? I hurry and apply it and wonder if I should wait a bit so it’s not *as* droopy🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I think normally with most rubber masks you would wait a bit, but I feel like it already set up fast enough as I was spreading it on my face! I think the trick is to spread on a little bit at a time, (but kinda fast) The first time I did it, I was sort of panicking and rushing to get it all on my face and was putting huge gobs of it on all at once – that definitely dripped a lot more than when I used a smaller gob, spread it out, another small gob, spread, etc. It seems each rubber mask has its own learning curve 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @Shosh85, that makes sense. I imagine you get the hang of it after a few different ones, I will try to pay close attention to the consistency and not apply it so quickly next time😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoeI'm so glad that I wasn't the only one who's skin was so cool with that Erno Laszlo mask!  I think when I used it I could very easily have had dripping too, I didn't even end up using the entire mask. I'm going to try it again in the summer when I'm having a way to hot for my own good kinda day.  I'm glad you had fun with it!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The melting mask part reminds me of turkeys, @missjeanie 😂 Is there a rubber mask that doesn’t melt off your face? I would love to know!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Bahahahah !! OMG @eshoe now I'm always going to think of Turkeys when I rubber mask!!! That's too funny! Gobble Gobble!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Just look at the goo, @missjeanie 😂 it jiggles when you move your head, it’s the best description I can come up with!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh my goodness, @eshoe!! You two really did have fun didn't you!! That is A LOT of dripping!! – you're melting! Haha! I just love your smiley little photo bomber! 😍😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It is just so funny @Shosh85, because it’s like having Jello jiggling from your face😄 I think rubber ‘ahem’ modeling masks might be edging out When and Oozoo for the top spot!

(She makes masking fun, too😊)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  oh wow!!  lol yours was wayyyyy drippier than mine was!!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh I’m ckearly doing SOMETHING wrong @missjeanie !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoeWhen I first started to put it on it was really drippy, but I kinda used the spatula to put it back into place.  By the time I was done catching the drips and putting most of it on it wasn't dripping as badly. It was a bit of an exercise figuring how to get it all to stay on though.  I kinda like the idea of these rubber drips jiggling around every time I moved though lol!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh it definitely adds to the laugh factor @missjeanie, I almost picked up another 4-pack but I’ve got the Sephora Coconut one to try first. That looks like it might not be as wiggly😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoeI think the fun factor is important in masking sometimes... We can't take it all too seriously eh!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ha ha ha @missjeanie @your comment reminds me of a joke my Grandpa used to say: How did Canada get its name? Someone was walking along and found some letters on the ground, and started picking them up. He said them as he did, “C, eh? N, eh? D, eh?” And that’s how it got it’s name😂 (he is from 🇨🇦 so lots of 💗 thereSmiley Wink)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ha!! I like that one!  I'll fully admit to saying it all the time!  I have a few friends from Michigan and Wisconsin and apparently I can't get through a dinner without dropping it at least a dozen times!  @eshoe  Your grandpa's got good jokes... I like!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yay glad you loved the erno as well @eshoe ! Such a great mask

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It was so much fun, @Kim888, I’m bound for a bad rubber mask soon I just know it😄!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

IMG_4286.JPGThe Lotus Home SPA Mask Pack

Spoiler
For the first day of Week 9, I thought I would go with the flower theme and try The Lotus Home SPA Mask Pack which comes with 3 individually packaged sheet masks that are meant to be used consecutively. It seemed like a bit of a time commitment so I decided I’d use the first mask in the morning and then follow up with the other 2 masks after work.

About the masks
Spoiler

Step 1 – Exfoliation: This mask contains “peeling ingredients used by professional skin care centers” and functions to melt away dead skin cells. A review of the ingredients list shows lactic acid as the active ingredient. The instructions indicate that “[i]f the skin continues to prickle and feel irritated, remove the mask, lightly tap the skin, and wash with lukewarm water.”

Step 2 – Skin Soothing + Whitening: This mask claims to help with skin moisturization, transform “dry skin into shiny water-glowing skin, and “recover skin vitality.”

Step 3 – Skin Moisturization + Wrinkle Treatment: This is a cream type mask that balances the skin’s moisture levels, nourish the skin and plump it up with wrinkle treating ingredients.

Monday AM – Mask #1

Spoiler
We were off to a great start with the mask being soft and thin, but I didn’t get much further than that because I felt this stinging pretty much all over my face – even my eyebrow hairs felt like they were tingling in a way that one’s eyebrow hairs should not tingle. Smiley Wink  This was maybe a minute into have the mask on; I told myself to give it 5 minutes and thought the sting would settle into more of a tingle. Ummm….NO; no, it did not. I couldn’t even get to minute 2 before I removed the mask and bolted back to the bathroom. Now, I know that the directions said that in the event of prickling to remove the mask (DONE!), lightly tap the skin and wash with lukewarm water, but nooooooo, I will not be tapping something that is causing my skin to sting / prickle into my skin. I grabbed my washcloth and removed the serum from my skin. My cheeks were a bit flushed, and there was some red patches on other parts of my face, including the corners of my nose, mouth, etc., but no more stinging or prickling. I reached for HERBIVORE - Emerald Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Deep Moisture Glow Oil and pressed a few drops onto my skin. Much better.

Monday PM – Masks #2 & 3

Spoiler
Well, as you can imagine, I was not super excited to continuing with this home spa mask pack, but after looking at the ingredients list for Mask #2 (it did not contain any lactic acid), I decided I’d give it a try. Well, to my great relief, no stinging; no prickling. The mask felt nice, it was indeed “soothing”. After having it on for 20 minutes, I removed it, lightly pressed the excess serum into my skin and looked in the mirror. To my relief, no pink cheeks, no redness. This made me feel better about moving to Step 3. I again looked at the back of the sheet mask to see if lactic acid was a component to this last mask; it was not so I decided I’d go for it. Emboldened by how well the second mask performed, I planned to go about the rest of my evening with the mask on. That went well for all of about 5 minutes, which is when I felt a slight tingle. Now, had this been any other day and any other mask, I might have waited it out a little, but given my experience with the first mask this morning,I immediately took off the mask and washed off the serum. Thankfully, there was no redness or irritation, but I wasn’t taking any chances and I reached for some aloe vera to apply all over my face. Ahhhhh, soothing relief. I have aloe on now and plan to keep it on until I’m headed to bed, when I’ll apply a layer of the Herbivore Emerald Oil.

yikes @itsfi still haunted by last weeks sting myself, so...

yikes @itsfi still haunted by last weeks sting myself, so sorry!😬 even your eyebrows....chills!😱

Re: yikes @itsfi still haunted by last weeks sting myself, so...

@sonnydee, the stinging is the worst and yes, haunting!! ☹️ I will not be using that mask again, that’s for sure!
