2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Sephora Collection pearl face mask is wonderful @IndyQT317! 💗 Love that one! I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the results from the grape eye 🍇 after continual and consistent use. Will keep on watch for that post.

Yep, I'll continue to make check-ins for sure on my progress @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@IndyQT317 looks like some solid masking! I love to hear about experiences with long term use (mainly because I never stick with one mask long enough to see results that take several weeks to start seeing)

I hear you @cianni. I hardly ever see progress on my eye...

I hear you @cianni. I hardly ever see progress on my eye masks so I was close to nix purchasing going forward. This experiment will help me make a final decision.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

More masking miracles for this weeks theme! These are all Sephora Collection products, which I’ve seen a lot of for these weeks theme! There may be more effective products on the market (although I have great and consistent results with these), but for the price, there’s not a lot that can compete! I did a multi-mask with the Sephora Collection Clay masks (samples pictured). I use the green clay on my oily areas, and the pink clay on the rest of my face. And to round out my SC night, I used the Sephora Collection Coconut Hair Sleeping Mask.4E063996-A758-4B2F-821E-F36C04730D1C.jpeg

Spoiler

For both clay masks - the regular packaging is great for multitasking because it’s resealable. I also find a little goes a long way, and I get way more than the stated 4 uses out of one package. I love how they don’t dry down completely, and don’t have that cracked tight feeling that some clay masks have. The consistency is also incredibly smooth, and it glides onto the face easily. The instructions stated to leave the mask on for 15 minutes. I was doing some laundry at the same time and left the masks on for almost 25. They didn’t dry down fully when with the additional time. These masks are easy to rinse off, provided you use warm water. Colder water did absolutely nothing LOL. When it makes contact with warm water, the clay turns to the consistency of a cream and comes off nicely. The only downside is that these have fragrance, and I noticed it the entire time. I wasn’t too bothered, but it did have a floral type of smell that I thought was a little unnecessary.

Pink clay - this is designed to unify and brighten the skin. I’m not exactly sure what unifying means, but I’m assuming it’s meant to say that it’ll even out your skin tone? Anyways, I did find when I washed it off that my skin did feel much fresher and brighter. Unlike other clay masks, my skin did feel hydrated after which I like a lot. My skin is still very soft and still feels brighter than usual, just over 12 hours later. A for the pink clay!

Green clay - this one is to purify and minimize pores. It does have an exfoliant in it, so if your skin is feeling particularly sensitive, I’d recommend the grey clay one instead (which I also love and is for mattifying and balancing oil, but doesn’t have physical exfoliants). That being said - it’s a mask so once it’s applied, the physical exfoliant really didn’t have any impact? My skin feels very soft after using this, and my pores are a little less noticeable. The main benefit is that my pores feel less congested. I would prefer this one to not have the exfoliant texture because I feel it’s an unnecessary potential irritant, but I didn’t notice it when it was on.

Coconut hair mask - I love these!!! Sometimes if I know I’m not going anywhere during the day on a lazy weekend, I’ll do it in the morning and rinse it out at night (so it’s still on for 8-10 hours). I slept with this last night and then rushed off to a hot yoga class and washed it out after. The smell isn’t super coconutty to me, but it does smell tropical. The consistency is a nice lotion. I used an entire package and that was enough to cover all of my medium length hair generously. The cap is adorable and worked well. I’m always nervous that I’ll ruin my pillowcases or sheets with sleeping masks, but I have no problem with this one. I have a lot of fine hair, so I do find when I sleep with it, that my hair gets tangly the next morning and it’s kind of a pain to wash it out, but that’s also because overnight it turns my hair into a crazy lions mane somehow (for reference - the clay masking pic was my hair before I applied the hair mask last night, and the photo of just my hair was this morning LOL). I find my hair does feel like it has a thick filmy residue on it, so I unfortunately will never be one of the lucky ladies who can use leave in conditioners or hair masks. I never liked hair masks to be honest, but on a more personal note, about a year ago I got out of a very long term relationship, and I’ve finally been ready to start dating again, so my hair has been through more heat styling tools in the last month and a half than the last 2 years combined 😂 so this SC masks have been a godsend for reparation. The coconut one is my go to because it’s for nourishment and reparation of the hair fibres, but next up I may pick up some Shea ones which are for preventing split ends and breakage. A+++

97D9ACD3-66C8-4F21-94BE-CA7B6E0E4491.jpegYou can feel how filmy and crunchy it is even through a photo LOL

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@cianni  I'll have to try out this hair mask!  I love the in shower ones, but haven't ventured to an overnight just yet!  Thanks for the review!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie I definitely love an overnight mask because I feel like the results are more noticeable, and I don’t always have enough time (unfortunately) to take a shower long enough for an in-shower mask 😰 I definitely recommend the SC ones!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@cianni I still haven't tried the Sephora clay masks! I don't use a lot of clay/mud masks because of how dry my skin feels after – but these sound so great! Love the clay masks that don't dry down hard! I'll definitely have to pick some up soon! Thanks for the detailed reviews! 🙌🤗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 yeah I totally agree! The only downfall is the fragrance, but I’ll take that over a super drying mask any day. For the price they’re worth a try for sure!

I swear I didn't even think that was your hair!! @cianni...

I swear I didn't even think that was your hair!! @cianni it looks curly and blondish 🤨 wt heck

Re: I swear I didn't even think that was your hair!! @cianni...

@lmaster right!! I do have some bleached ends but it usually is WAY more subtle 😂 and I haven’t had curly hair like that since I was a little girl. So weird!! I felt like a lion hahahhaa

Re: I swear I didn't even think that was your hair!! @cianni...

@cianni I actually like that wild look 😆 minus the filmy and super crunchy 😋😘

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes, I can see the crunch @cianni 😄 Love those Sephora Clay masks, and that they don’t dry down is soooo nice. Thank you for the tip on using warm water, too-I did not know that!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe all my pro tips are the result of trial and (a lot of) error 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It will be a good one to share during Mask Hacks week @cianni 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love how you multi-mask with the Sephora clay masks to tailor it to your skincare needs @cianni! 😊💖 The Sephora Collection Coconut Hair Mask is my favorite from the line! Love the coconut 🥥 and the rose 🌹 hair masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi the rose does sound nice too!! as much as I do prefer sheet masks, sometimes my skin just doesn’t want to cooperate with itself hahah I need to keep some more customized skincare options in my routine as well 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Slowly catching up. Here are my Friday night and Saturday night masking sessions. Friday night was all about the letter “K” and in last night’s case, “K” was for The Crème Shop Keroppi Sooper Soothe Sheet Mask and the Klavuu Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack.

IMG_5675.JPG

Spoiler

The Crème Shop Keroppi Sooper Soothe Sheet Mask is limited edition and noteworthy ingredients are rice water and green tea. The mask has a light clean scent that leans a little soap-ish; not full on soap but maybe that shower fresh clean scent. The mask claims to work at exfoliating, brightening, balancing and hydrating. @sonnydee used this mask earlier in the week and posted good feedback on it (see link - https://community.sephora.com/t5/Skincare-Aware/2019-Mask-of-the-Week-Challenge/m-p/4598314/highligh...). I’m not sure whether all the mask’s claims were satisfied, but my skin felt soft, smooth, and hydrated. It looked brighter and refreshed, too. The results are really quite nice and I’d give the mask an “A”.

Klavuu Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack is yet another lip product I own and it’s one I love, too! Smiley Happy This one has a nice consistency to it – if the BITE Beauty Agave Lip Balm is too thick and sticky for your liking and if the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is too tacky and not thick enough for you, then this Klavuu lip sleeping pack might be a great fit for you. There’s a picture of the Klavuu in the spoiler so you can see the texture of the balm. This was part of a sampler set I purchased at sokoglam dot com and I plan to pick up a full size.

Last night’s masking choices also centered on the letter of the week and “K” is for K-beauty and “K” is for Klavuu, Dear, Klairs (both masks) and La’Dor Keratin Power Glue. And, spoiler!, after using all these items, these beauties are also all favorites!!

IMG_5968.JPG

Spoiler
I’ve talked about the Dear, Klairs Vitamin E Mask a couple of times and the Klavuu Nourishing Care Lip Sleeping Pack up above (both are great and will be repurchases), so I’ll focus on the other two mask.

La’Dor Keratin Power Glue is a leave-in hair treatment that I apply after shampooing and towel drying my hair. Directions say that you can skip the conditioner and that’s what I did. I usually let my hair air dry and did the same thing last night. I was a little nervous about something called “Power Glue” but there’s nothing sticky about this product. It’s applies easily, has a nice, light scent that I can’t describe other than as subtle and pleasant – it’s maybe a cross between something fresh, clean and ever so slightly sweet and floral. This works really well as a detangler and leaves my hair soft, silky and smooth without weighing it down. It’s an “A / A+” for me and it will definitely be a repurchase.

Dear, Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Sheet Mask is a soft, 2-piece charcoal mask that leans on the thinner side and other than being too long at the chin, fits wonderfully. It has a very subtle herbal, but not medicinal, scent. This mask felt very comfortable on; directions suggest leaving the mask on for 15-20 minutes, but I kept it on for about 40 minutes and could have kept it on longer. There’s a bit of essence that needs to be pressed into the skin to help with absorption but it absorbs fairly quickly and there’s just the slightest bit of tack to the touch. Some redness that I have on my cheeks seem to have decreased and calmed down, and my skin looks and feels brighter and more hydrated. I have a small pouch, my mini skincare emergency kit, where I include a few things I might need in a skincare emergency – things like aloe, blemish drying item, calming/soothing moisturizer or sheet mask. I plan to repurchase a couple more of these sheet masks and keep one in my kit. It’s an “A+” mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A few great K masks @itsfi !  And entry into your emergency kit is high praise indeed!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Awww thanks @missjeanie! 🥰 I try to keep it to minimum - just what I need in the kit in the event my skin freaks out or responds really badly to a mask or skincare product. There’s only a few masks in there and I *try* to go back and rotate items a couple of times every year so nothing expires.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Great masks! I enjoyed the Keroppi mask as well. 😉 The little doodles on these masks are pretty cute! Glad you liked it!

I still haven't tried a Dear, Klairs mask yet, but this one sounds like one I need to try! Happy to hear you got such great results!
