Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

L is for Lovemore and Loofah

IMG_0970.JPG

Spoiler

I have been wanting to try a Lovemore masks for ages, going back to when I first started learning about sheet masks and having an appreciation for the differences in sheet masks! So this is a “Finally!!!!” moment for me, in the best way. Smiley Wink Lovemore Loofah & Aloe Vera Hydrating Mask Sheet is a very thin and light 100% silk Taiwanese sheet mask with a clean, fresh and refreshing scent. I can’t make out what the scent is exactly but I would be happy if all sheet masks smelled like this. The mask itself is sandwiched between a white plastic like backing and a light blue fabric backing. I find that when I see double backing like this, the sheet mask itself will be thin, delicate and easily prone to tearing. This isn’t the thinnest or most delicate sheet mask I’ve used but it is on the thinner side. I paired it with the MARIO BADESCU - Lip Balm, a subtly coconut scented balm that has a thicker consistency but still applies wonderfully and does a nice job of keeping my lips soft, smooth and moisturized.

I’ve found that the best way to apply masks like this one is to first remove the white plastic backing and then starting at my forehead, slowly apply the mask onto my face, with the blue backing side facing out. Staying on the forehead, I will peel back that portion of the blue backing and let it hang there while I position the mask in place. I’ll slowly work my way to the eye section and make any necessary adjustments with my mini scissors. Here I snipped both corners so I could fold up the section sitting on my lids and to adjust the area covering the bridge of my nose which was closer to the inner corner of my eyes that I’m comfortable with. Other than that, the only adjustment was to cut off about 3/4” from the chin/jawline. I could have also snipped off about 1/4" from the temples but it was really minor so I just left it. The sheet mask is extremely comfortable to wear.

Interestingly, I felt a slight cooling sensation a little less than 5 minutes into my wear time. It was unexpected and brief so I didn’t get the exact time I felt that. It was nice. Also interesting was that the mask felt like it was starting to dry out around the 25 minute mark. This is fine with me as I don’t usually like to keep a sheet mask on longer than an half hour, but it was strange that it started to dry out around that time; most sheet masks are soaked with essence and my experience is that I could, if I wanted easily leave them on for an additional 15-20 minutes without it beginning to dry out. I managed to eek it out to 30 minutes with this one but that involved me massaging the essence from my forehead where I tend to have a lot of excess essence remaining to my drier cheeks, upper lip and even to my chin. After removing the mask, there was really just the slightest essence remaining to be pressed into the skin, which it absorbed quickly.

Results-wise, say hello to soft, smooth hydrated skin! Zero trace of tack or stickiness. If there’s a moisturizer with these ingredients that would produce results like this, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I will absolutely be trying out the other Lovemore mask sheets that I have very soon.

Look At Me Green Blend Tea Tree + Cucumber Face Mask

This is a thin tencel sheet mask that was saturated with a slimy gel-type of serum. The scent sorta smelled like a mix of tea tree and menthol and seemed a little strong when taking it out of the package, but faded a bit after putting it on. The fit was okay - it was a little too long at the chin and just slightly too wide between the eyes. I kept it on for about 35 minutes. When I removed it, the serum leftover was just slightly tacky and absorbed after about 15 minutes. My face felt so refreshed and soothed. The redness I had faded quite a bit and my face looked a little brighter. My skin felt nicely hydrated and was so soft & smooth.

I really enjoyed this one! The scent wasn't what I was expecting, but still turned out fine and the results were great. 😃I don't think I'll have a problem using these up!A7F3DDE8-485F-4E5C-9051-D6FAD174F6D0.jpeg

Comparisons/rankings: (I had written out a longer, more detailed version, but somehow it vanished from my notes 😬)

Spoiler

Scent:

#1) Watermelon: watermelon jolly rancher

#2) Aloe Vera: light aloe

#3)Guacamole: fresh & clean

#4)Charcoal: soapy and fresh & clean

#5) Collagen: floral with maybe a hint of sweetness

#6) Snail + Green Tea: floral with maaaybe a hint of green tea, but it was mostly floral

#7) Tea Tree + Cucumber: Menthol and Tea tree

Fit: They all pretty much had the same kinda fit, but I'd say the Collagen one seemed to have smaller mouth and eye holes than the others did - so I'd rate that as the worst fit. The Charcoal mask had the best fit and also was the most comfortable.

Overall:

#1) Watermelon

#2) Best Friend

#3) Green Blend

#4) Guacamole

#5) Aloe

#6) Collagen

#7) Charcoal

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Alright, y'all, need some recommendations for an amazing foot peeling mask.  Now that summer's over and I'm not going barefoot (didn't want to show off my yucky peely feet, lol) I really want to try a fairly intense foot mask to try and resurface my feet and get rid of some calluses--give me your best suggestions!

RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks to @mrsmouse for gifting me this so I could participate. ❤️❤️ okay I looove watermelon 🍉 masks, lotions, anything. This mask really is quite a winner for me. I love the super goopy serum, my skin soaked it up. I’ve never tried the look at me brand and I’m impressed. Fit my face well and stuck on well.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

L week mask.JPGL week - Laneige Mini Pore Waterclay Mask

This Laneige mask is interesting - it's a clay mask that sucks up sebum, oil and the gunk that can accumulate and get trapped in pores, but it's not drying which I find fascinating since it is a clay mask and it also does contain alcohol, which I'm not super fond of, but even with the alcohol content, it's actually pretty moisturizing. The color of the mask starts out as a dark gray but lightens to a lighter gray color after it's dried. My skin feels slightly tight after I rinse off the mask but not in a drying sort of way, but more like it feels more firm; and it looks clean and clear.  I used up most of the sample but there was a little bit left that my husband asked if he could try it - he's been enjoying the pore cleansing masks ever since we used the Kiehl's masks last week. He put it on his nose and liked the results enough to say that he might like it more than the Kiehl's Rare Earth Mask but he can't say for certain just yet. Smiley Wink Which I think is his somewhat subtle way of saying he wants keep trying them. Looks like I'll have to see if I can get my hands on another sample of this one. Which makes me wonder, what pore cleansing / detoxifying masks do you like?

RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A’pieu’s Icing Sweet Bar In Hanrabong . Looove the citrus scent. Gave skin a little brightness. The serum was then so there was plenty to smooth over all the tattoos. Very refreshing morning mask.

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Weetart This is such a great line of masks! Have tried any of the others?

Glad to hear you enjoyed this one!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Look at me mask rankings. This was so hard because they are all really good.

1. Watermelon

2. Green Blend

3. Best friend Snail & Green tea

4. Guacamole

5. Aloe

6. Collagen

7. Charcoal

I will repurchase the top 4 anytime I find them. The bottom 3 are good I just have better alternatives.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl Nice! My overall ranking is almost the same as yours! It definitely was challenging to rank them, but I did know for sure what was in first and last place 😃

This one is a thin sheet that is drenched in serum that smells like aloe and slightly floral. The fit is decent. It’s a bit long at the nose and chin. I left it on for 25 minutes and there was still plenty of serum to massage in to my face, neck, and arms. It was lightly tacky for about 10 minutes. My face felt hydrated and soft. I’ll definitely use the rest that I have but probably won’t repurchase.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl Glad this one turned out decent for you! Probably not a repurchase for me either, mostly because I've tried other Aloe masks that I've liked more. 😉

Spoiler
The fit on this mask was excellent 👌 white thin saturated in clear serum. The scent was fresh but leaning towards strong if you are sensitive. Left it on for 20 minutes, after removing, most of the serum had absorbed, my skin was definitely hydrated, not much in terms of moisturized, but definitely hydrated. I would use this again, but probably wouldn't seek it out. Very decent I'll rate it 4.5*

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster Glad you could get in a good dose of hydration with this one! It's always nice when I does what it says it'll do.😉👍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’ll have to add this one to my list @lmaster!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah this one was great @faeriegirl  after using it I realized this would be a great mask to use before other serums in your routine because it's not really moisturizing but hydrates very well

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This one sounds nice @lmaster; I think I've seen these at my nearby Ulta.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missy415 it is a nice mask to use before serums as it does not have a major moisturizing feeling too the serum

I’m also a fan of this mask @lmaster . Glad it worked out well for you
