Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Tuesday’s L was for Luxe, Lifting, La’dor and Laneige

IMG_0758.JPG

Spoiler

I went in lightly with the AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder  all over my face, concentrating on areas that tend to be a little more congested than others; namely, my nose, around the sides and corners of my nose, my chin and jawline. AP puts out some lovely and luxe products and one of my favorites from the brand is this treatment peel. Next up was the Briskin sheet mask and to be perfectly upfront, I went with this particular sheet mask Tuesday because it expired that day. Smiley Wink I recently went through my sheet masks again, pulling out ones I wanted to make sure to use during the colder months, whether they were tried and true favorites or newbies that I thought would be good for my skin as it starts to lean more and more dry. In the course of sorting through some masks, I discovered a few that have impending expiration dates including this one!

Briskin Real Fit Second Skin Mask – Anti-Wrinkle & Firmness is a thin bio-cellulose sheet mask that claims to hydrate and plump up the skin. In terms of ingredients, this one has quite a list of ones worth noting, including coconut water, hyaluronic acid, collagen, aloe and witch hazel. For the most part, bio-cellulose masks adhere pretty well to my skin, definitely less fidgety than its hydrogel counterpart. This one, however, was a little more slippery, particularly in the upper lip area, which suffered from being a little too high for me as well as having more slip to it which meant it was sliding down and over my upper lip a lot. Likely due to it expiring that day, this particular biocellulose mask didn’t seem to have a lot of essence to it, less so than I experience with masks of this type so to be safe and keep the mask from drying out, I went with the recommended 20 minutes of wear time instead of my typical half an hour. My skin felt fine after removing the mask but I didn’t get that feeling that I normally do with biocellulose masks – where I tell myself ‘oh wow, this was more hydrating than I thought it would be’. The results were okay; my skin didn’t feel dry; it felt very slightly more hydrated than if I skipped a sheet mask altogether. I don’t know if these results were due to the fact that the mask was literally about to expire. I may pick up another one and use it well before its stated expiration date. That seems like the fair thing to do.

I’ve used and reviewed the La’dor Keratin Power Glue before –  this DS is one of the leave-in hair treatments / thermal protectant I take with me on work trips because it’s small, easy to travel with, and does a nice job with helping my hair look soft and healthy when it’s been or about to be subjected to blow dryers, curling irons, etc. It’s a good product and one that surprised me. My only hesitation with picking up a full size is that I won’t have a DS/mini to take with me when I travel and I mean, do I really need another hair product? One thing folks may want to know is that this product contains moringa oil, collagen and wait for it … snail mucin. Ohhhh, just when I thought my hopes for a snail themed multi-masking session were dashed… Smiley Happy

LANEIGE - Lip Sleeping Mask is a tried and true for me. It used to be that I would buy the holiday mini set that came out every year and that includes this lip sleeping mask, but I don’t think I will be doing that this year, not because I don’t like it, but I haven’t even made a dent in last year’s holiday set. I think that means I may have too many lip balms. I don’t think that will necessarily stop me from picking up more though. lol.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh goodness, @itsfi that AP must be my favorite of their products, hands down. I've been using it all week in the mornings with cleansing oil (thank you @keana1 for the suggestion!) and it's such a love.

Haven't tried any of the Briskin products although they've been in my basket more than once. Just want to get a feel for their fit/scent, any suggestions to start off with?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The AP enzyme peel is definitely one of their bests @eshoe. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I've used a few masks close to their expiration date and have wondered if they would've turned out any different if the mask had been brand new. That'd be an interesting experiment- two of the exact same masks but one that was brand new and one that was about to expire. 🤔

I know what you mean about the holiday sets! I bought both the Laniege and Bite sets last year - I've just finished the 3 little Laniege minis but have hardly touched the rest..... and I'll probably still break down and buy more holiday sets of something, cuz I'm weak 😂🤷‍♀️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Congrats on finishing the 3 minis, @Shosh85 - that's a big deal! My FS is barely dented and I am madly attempting to finish at least ONE Bite before buying more. But what wintery scent/flavor do you think they will come up with this year to draw us in? And on another note, have you picked up any holiday sets yet?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I haven't picked up any sets yet. Even though I definitely don't need any more lip balms, I do have my eyes on the LANEIGE - Kiss Me at Midnight set, but only because I want the two minis; Mint Choco and Sweet Candy. I'd probably give the FS to a sibling 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Now @Shosh85 I hadn’t even seen that...I think I’m with you on the gifting part. I like the little pots, anyway-they are too cute! Mint choco sounds good, wonder if it will have that Velamints mint chocolate scent.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, I do wonder how the Briskin mask would have performed if it were in its prime. 🤔 Congratulations on finishing up another Laneige mini - they may look small but they sure hold quite a bit of product. The holiday sets are definitely a weakness, be it lip masks or something else. Hahaha! 🤣

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I can't wait for the snail mucin multi-masking bonanza review @itsfi !  I will definitely be taking notes on that day.  Smiley Happy  I really do need to go through my masks and organize them by expiration date.  I know I have a few of TCS Resveratrol that are expiring soon & need to be used.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Awww thanks @mrsmouse! 🤗 I think the hardest part will be deciding which snail sheet mask to use. 🐌

If TCS resveratrol is a mask you like, is it one that would work for daily masking? That’s definitely a way to use ‘em up.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Honestly, I rarely mask in the morning @itsfi , and when I do it's usually on the weekend and just a 10 minute, wash off kind of mask.  I'm just not that together until I've had a cup of coffee or twelve.  Smiley Wink

I think I have 3 of the resveratrol that are expiring & probably a couple of weeks left to use them so I should be able to squeeze them into my evening masking.  Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So hear you about coffee @mrsmouse! ☕️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

2 loves right there for me- that Amorepacific and the Laneige.  Both of which I often forget to use, despite the Laneige sitting on my bedside table.  🤦🏼‍♀️

The Amorepacific I don't want to get wet for obvious (the item is a powder) reasons, so I do not tuck it in the shower, but since I like to rinse it off in the shower I often forget it because- out of sight out of mind in this case.

Have you tried the AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peeling Masque? ❤ or maybe I have asked before, I apologize if I forgot!

@itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love that AP masque @l8totheparty! I picked up a full size of it earlier this month. Or maybe it was last month? It’s good!!! 😍 I had a sample of it and went to reach for it after reading your raves about it. 💕

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm so glad you like it! 💗😊 @itsfi

Gentle yet effective. And quick!  Everytime I use it the results make me happy.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  a lot of great products there. Great reminder to check the expiration dates on the masks. And on the lip mask, that holiday set was great to try out the different "flavors" but same here, wont need to pick up another one of those. However, I may pick up another set as I dont have many lip masks or balms.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @GalPalVal17. I was better earlier in the year at making sure to use masks before they expired. I need to get back into a routine with that.

The holiday sets get me every year!!! 😂 Every. Year. It’s becoming a tradition in that regard. 😂🤣😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I know what you mean @itsfi. Last year I bought both the Laneige and Bite holiday sets and probably won't finish until 2025. Good luck resisting since the holiday sets are always so cute.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah @ShortErica, the holiday sets are always very cute. That coupled with FOMO is going to be hard to resist, but we shall see... 😬

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 38 - Sept 16 - 22 - L - When you are getting Glam for a night out and want that Glow

This time I opted for Glow Recipe sent to me by @faeriegirl - she's the sweetest!

20190918_234328.jpg20190918_234337.jpg

I have tried this mask twice before. Once I used it in a Sephora class (speaking of which, has anyone taken one recently?) and remember my face feeling soft when I used it as a wash off. I also had a sample but my only notes were "fine but not wow." Thanks past ShortErica, so descriptive. Ha!

Anyway, I opted to use this as a sleeping mask like it is named. I tried to let it soak in for 5-10 minutes before going to bed.

The next morning:

Spoiler
20190919_075145.jpg

I washed it off as directed and did my normal skincare. I don't think I saw or felt a big difference between this and when I just do the routine. Hmm... I remember being more impressed when I used it as a wash off in store. Maybe my other sample I used as a sleeping mask too and that's why I wasn't impressed. I think as a prep before a day or night out this is a nice mask. The smell is lovely but I'm cautious with scents and fragrance in skincare. I can see how the scent gets a lot of fans though. I'll go with B+. I kinda am interested to try it as a wash off to see if I get that same soft skin moment as I did in the past. I'll definitely take better notes that I prefer this mask as a wash off vs. sleeping mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I noticed the exact same thing from this mask in the mornings, couldn't tell at first if it was the actual mask material or my skin peeling. That much peel would most likely equate to some baby skin and although mine felt soft, I determined it due to the product itself rather than a peeling effect. Just my two cents.
