ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yaaay for squeezing another mask in today @Shosh85! 😃 Happy to hear it was a good one, too. I have a feeling I have all 3 of these; I’ll get to them one of these days. Ha! Somewhat random question for you - how many full face sheet masks have you used in one day?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi "I'll get to them one of these days" is something I find myself saying often. Haha!

I love your questions 😉 I've done 3 masks in one day, once. That was a weird day where I woke up super early and went to bed real late and didn't go anywhere all day. Normally I do one a day, sometimes two on a weekend day. How about you?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, I'm pretty sure 3 as well; I don’t think I’ve ever done 4 in one day - I feel like that would be too much for me.  Those 3-sheet-mask-days have mostly been on days when I travel out of town – travel days when I come home are usually one sheet mask days, the morning of my flight, because by the time I get home, all I usually want to do is wash my face, change into my PJs and get to bed. Ha! It’s a hydrating sheet mask before leaving for the airport; then if I have time, a quick sheet mask after I check into the hotel and before dinner (that’s usually a soothing one or if my skin is looking worn from the flight, it’s a revitalizing / brightening-and-hydrating sheet mask), and then before bed, it’s a nourishing or moisturizing sheet mask. Sometimes I’ll get 3 in, like you, on a random day when I’m home all day; or if I can squeeze in a mask before heading out to dinner.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 Black tea is the best - better than the rest! Hahaha. Can't you squeeze in the other two as well tonight? 😉 I didn't give the white a true test with tackiness but I thought the black tea was the most tacky so I'm nodding my head with your review.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  I was thinking about doing the green tea tomorrow 👍 I never did buy the white tea one though - I almost did, but saw that it had alcohol so I put it back. I'm not totally against using masks with alcohol, I just didn't want 10 of them 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Totally understandable @Shosh85. For a while the only one at my stores was the white tea and that's why I never took the plunge. I was lucky to get all 3 in unicorn mail. If I didn't have a million masks (feels like only a slight exaggeration) the black tea would probably be the one I would have picked up without trying as well as after trying them.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 29 - July 15 - 21 - C - Lip, Hand and Foot Masks

Cosmetea Comparison Continues...now @eshoe's sharing of the Green Tea Cosmetea joins the party. Thank you for sending me this one.

My face:

Spoiler
20190720_113742.jpg

Spoiler
  • Serum - similar to black tea, it was very wet but no dripping
  • Scent - I smelled the green tea but then there was something else. Something not as friendly to my nose. Ah-ha ingredient list - I see you tea tree. Too bad. And the smell lingered while wearing
  • Mask fit - same as all the others - very good, just wish the forehead was a little taller
  • Wear time - this one stayed moist even longer and I wore it 40 minutes while relaxing in the bath
  • Tackiness - I waited this time. It was slightly tacky after removal but faded to only a teensy bit with no moisturizer
  • Extra Serum - White Tea had the most. I'm not sure about Black Tea vs. this one. Probably similar. Frankenmask jar has 25 g of serum - condensed cotton has been added!
  • Results - Again, this was a nice mask. No wow factor but solid.

Grade: B. I think the smell was the issue for me. The fit, wear time and results were good. In my mind green tea stuff should smell like thisI'm not a fan of green tea to drink but I like this perfume. Please don't ask how old it is. Maybe I got it in high school. Oops! Anyway this is what I expected to smell but the tea tree made it different and a bit unpleasant. I sprayed this afterward to verify it smells much better than the mask did.I'm not a fan of green tea to drink but I like this perfume. Please don't ask how old it is. Maybe I got it in high school. Oops! Anyway this is what I expected to smell but the tea tree made it different and a bit unpleasant. I sprayed this afterward to verify it smells much better than the mask did.

Comparison of the Cosmetea:

Spoiler
    • Serum: all equal; black and white had milky serums while the green tea one was clear but all seemed to stay well on the mask
    • Scent: black > white > green
    • Mask fit: all equal
    • Wear time: green > black = white
    • Tackiness: green < black (white - unknown)
    • Extra Serum: white > black = green
    • Results: all had fine but different results. White definitely had the most brightening which is what it claims.
    • Overall: black > white > green

The tackiness in the black I can overlook the most easily by applying moisturizer. And I guess the alcohol in the white is less bothersome for me than the scent of the green tea.

I thought I did my Cosmetea and would Frankenmask tomorrow. Oh no! @missjeanie sent me another one so I might as well throw it into the ring. I plan to do the Frankenmask after sports mid-day and then end the night with the Lavender balance one to prep my skin for the week ahead. I'll update with a new recap.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

"Please don't ask how old it is."

Basically me when I look at some really old perfumes I refuse to throw away. lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica I have a bin under the sink with a few bottles that remind me of times in my life. I rarely take them out but when I do, it’s a good reminder that life is better now, no matter how challenging some days can be😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love memories and especially when things are better now @eshoe. I feel like there's a story behind some of your challenging days? Daughter, new dog adjusting, something else? I'm hoping it's funny to look back on. 😊

thanks for reviewing this @ShortErica if I can't across o...

thanks for reviewing this @ShortErica if I can't across one, I'd use it, but sounds like I won't go searching

Re: thanks for reviewing this @ShortErica if I can't across o...

@lmaster I feel like there's been so many good masks I have to make a line of what's worth searching for or else I'd buy everything!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  It's too bad about the scent on this one, but I'm even more curious to try it now. 😉 Glad the results were nice!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 Do you have all 3 (black, white, green)? I'll be curious if you would rank them too. I know you aren't a fan of strong scents too.

Also how silly of me to think I did all the Cosmetea and then @missjeanie sends me a different one. Apparently these seem to be the main 3 but then Cosmetea has a Tea Control line with 5 others. I'm interested if the Tea Control has the same fit as the originals. I hope so!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  haha! Just mentioned this in the post above 😉 I never picked up the white tea because of the alcohol

I currently have the Control line of these masks sitting in an online cart! Haha! I'll be interested to know what you think of them.... then I can decide if I reeeally want to buy them 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes, make your purchasing decisions based on me trying 1 from the line @Shosh85🤣 @missjeanie since you sent it to me, have you tried the Lavender or others from the Control line?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Tonight I used Soo’AE Cactus Soothing Gel Mask. I really wanted something with gel and refreshing after a hot bath. This fit the bill. First of all, this mask is super cute. The eye holes were a little wonky. Lots of good ingredients to help sooth the skin, but I picked up on a light floral scent which I wish they would have left out. I would give this mask a B or a 4/5. It felt nice, but floral perfumes are just a no for me.

Early I used Bubble’t lemongrass and green tree bath bomb and lip balm. This is one of my favorite smelling lip balms. (With my Huckberry lip balm that @eshoe  gave to me as my favorite). 9402535D-5210-4CBD-8F26-9E92F6BA8E53.jpeg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@emaisgr8 I love the packaging of that one, but I am really trying to avoid fragrance.

I'm battling lip dermatitis (basically allergy to lip items and I'm still trying to find the culprit ingredient) and trying to keep my skincare and MU very simple while getting things under control.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Cyncynn  I hope you find out what ingredient is bothering you. That is no fun.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Too cute, @emaisgr8! I'm sorry the scent put a damper on this one, but it sounds pretty nice otherwise!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It was! @quspork
