2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So I went into Marshalls today after work. (I'm feeling like I am becoming a regular there.)  I spot some individual Frudia masks.

Backstory: I just bought a set of 8 of them for something like $10 the other day for comparison (they were in a bag, the box must have broke. Are they normally in sets of 10? Not sure).

These individual masks were listed for $8. A mask. EIGHT dollars a mask.  I took them up to the front and asked the lady if the price was correct and she whispers, 'yes, I know right?! So expensive.' Needless to say I didn't purchase the 3 masks at $8 a piece hanging individually.  🙄frudia_mask_blueberry.jpgThese may be made of actual gold at Marshalls. The lady wasn't about to get the manager to discuss prices, too bad.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That is crazy @l8totheparty!🤯

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah. I was pretty sure they were priced wrong. @faeriegirl

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Good grief @l8totheparty !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Must be made of gold and will actually go to work in your place @l8totheparty.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@divaknits @l8totheparty but these are so cheap compared to the ones @faeriegirl did! 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

😆 @ShortErica

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It better at least help me do the laundry for $8 a mask. @divaknits

yeah @l8totheparty I bought these in a pack from tj Maxx...

yeah @l8totheparty I bought these in a pack from tj Maxx for like 10$ for 5 they are great masks

Re: yeah @l8totheparty I bought these in a pack from tj Maxx...

$8 per mask kind of great?  Lol @lmaster

I bought the grape ones and need to try them one of these days.  I also bought the grape toner and so far I like it.  I had never been into toners before.

Re: yeah @l8totheparty I bought these in a pack from tj Maxx...

Idk about 8$ a mask great @l8totheparty but they are excellent filler masks

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I think my boxes were 5 masks for $5.99 US@l8totheparty

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee @l8totheparty this is the price I saw for them too

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ok!  That seems reasonable.  @sonnydee

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Whoa.... I've seen these packaged in maybe 3 or 5, and then I've seen a box of 10 once.  I've also seen individual masks hanging.  I've only seen the masks in the US at TJ's, but have noticed the serum/moisturizer/toner at Winners in Canada.  The individual masks were about 3.50$ each but I've also seen them on clearance for 2$ each @l8totheparty .  8$ seems pretty steep to me too.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah, $8 each Marshalls' price?  Pretty steep indeed. @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty I noticed that with a mask recently at TJ Maxx, can’t recall what brand but it definitely wasn’t anything spectacular. It was a single mask marked at $9.99, and I know I’ve seen a box of 20 for that price there. It had to have been an error😳

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Must be an error, just like the single Frudia mask price here.  So weird. @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This morning, I used the PETER THOMAS ROTH - Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask, another favorite of mine from the brand. The first time I tried this I was nervous – mud masks and dehydrated skin are not a pair you think go hand in hand. I was intrigued by it because I heard that it did not dry down and tighten, so I gave it a shot and I’ve had a DS or mini size of it in my mask stash ever since. I typically just apply the Irish Moor Mud Mask to my T-zone but decided to apply it all over today since I’d be hopping on a plane later. After 10 minutes, I rinsed off the mask in the shower and my skin. My skin looks and feel clean and fresh without feeling dry or tight. In fact, my skin feels pretty soft.

In the afternoon, after getting to my gate, I went to take off my makeup and prep for the flight, which usually means slathering my face in a hydrating mask, typically a salve or an overnight mask. Today I opted to use the PETER THOMAS ROTH - Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Gel Mask as a sleeping / hydrating mask. I spritzed my face with the AMOREPACIFIC - Moisture Bound Skin Energy Mist (not shown) and then applied the PTR rose mask all over my face. This mask smells of roses and is absorbed into the skin pretty quickly, which is a plus because it means I don’t have a thick layer of goo on my face while on the plane. I’ve had the mask on for a little more than 4-1/2 hours by the time I check in at the hotel and get up to my room. Looking in the mirror, my skin looks pretty good for having been on a plane; it’s still soft and there’s no visible sign of dryness. The mask did a pretty good job; I think I still prefer using the Farmacy Honey Savior Salve but this PTR rose stem mask has turned out to do pretty well at keeping my skin hydrated in flight. Just to be safe though, it’s time to guzzle some water and layer on some trusty hydrating products before going to bed tonight.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The rose is a hit for me as a sleeping mask too @itsfi .  I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked.  Hope you got some sleep after a travel day!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, so happy to hear the rose masks works for you as a sleeping mask! It’s has not been one I’ve been a fan of, but using it as an overnight mask has been a nice surprise for me.
