2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I like the concept too! I have the cannabis one open and love how easy and not messy it is to use. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I've been curious about the Laneige and will be interested to hear how the overnight masking goes! The scent definitely sounds delicious!! 😋

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, it’s a good one for us dry gals; I can see this fitting in nicely and often in the winter months. Keep an eye out at Laneige direct; I picked this DS up when they were having a gwp - ordered one each of the sheet masks and got this one with my purchase. 💗💕

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m very interested in the Milk mask @itsfi . It looks so convenient.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s super convenient @divaknits, one of the reasons I love it. 👌🏼 It would be great if Milk put out a mini set of their masks! I feel like that would fly off the shelves! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  Great masking!! I love the Milk Watermelon mask for results and convenience!! Great for morning masking!! I haven't got to try the Laneige, but I'm sure it great because I've had such good results with their other products!! Definitely need to try that one!!😊🍉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Agree @yankeefaithful! The Milk watermelon one is fantastic for a bit of brightening and I love how convenient it is. 😃👍🏼 The Laneige Multiberry is good for those days / nights when it’s super cold and skin is experiencing some big time dryness.

can't wait to see your thoughts! @itsfi

Re: can't wait to see your thoughts! @itsfi

This might be a really good one for the brutal winters you have @lmaster! The Shea butter and cocoa butter may be too heavy for your skin when the weather is warmer.

Re: can't wait to see your thoughts! @itsfi

Very very true @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 25 - June 17 - 23 - Y - Yadah Week

Yadah Collagen sent to me by the lovely @missjeanie - I was so excited when I received not only an amazing mask selection but also wonderful Canadian candy. But I can't lie, the Yadah was one of the most eye catching things. The brand has me hooked!

This one and the All Day Collagen smell similarly. I feel like yesterday's was maybe the slightest bit more potent but both were just typical mask smell to me.

My face:

Spoiler: looking at the masks side by side after removing - this has to be almost exactly the same size as the other two. I will verify for sure tomorrow. But you can see - it just isn't the same on my face. The fit was still decent but the smooshing under the nose and in the mouth area just wasn't as nice. Was this a user error or something different? I don't know! This one mirrored the Pore Care in terms of shorter on the forehead but the Pore Care was so much better on the rest of the face. So strange.

I wore this for 30 minutes. Again, the center (nose and philtrum) were pretty dry and there were some moist and even wet areas by the chin and outsides. I folded it in half and placed it on my neck for a few minutes. My face seemed a bit plumper. Though my initial impression is that my fine lines by my nose and on my forehead were more diminished with the All Day Collagen. We'll have to see what tomorrow morning brings. I had the no/at most a slight tack from this mask too. But wait..then there was the extra serum. I applied it to my neck and hands only. There wasn't as much as the other masks. Particularly on my neck, I had a somewhat tacky feeling from the extra serum. It faded with time but didn't completely disappear.

I think A-. If I wasn't going back to back with the other Yadah masks, I think it would be an A. Am I subconsciously wanting the All Day Collagen to be better because I have more of those to use? I really hope I'm judging as impartially as I can. Just the fit and the tackiness aren't quite on par with the last two. I'd bet money that when I put the masks on top of each other tomorrow morning they are the same size though. What gives!

Ratings Update:

For reference and succinctness (bold are used so far): All Day Aloe (ADA), All Day Collagen (ADC), All Day Rose (ADR), Collagen (C), Pore Care (PC)

Serum level: ADC = C = PC (there are some differences in where wet areas remained after 30-35 minutes of wear but not enough to put on above another that they had more serum on the mask)

Material: ADC = C = PC (eh, this is equal too, between the two collagen I didn't feel like one's material made it superior to the other)

Fit: PC > ADC > C (WHY?!)

Scent: PC > ADC = C

Wear time: ADC = C = PC (see notes about leftover wet areas on the mask in Serum; masks wouldn't be nice if kept on too long and the centers would be the driest part)

Tackiness: ADC = PC < C (the tackiness was only from the extra serum though)

Results: ADC > PC (my sleep lines were minimal this morning - maybe from the ADC mask, maybe not but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt; C results are TBD)

Extra serum in package: ADC > PC > C

Overall: TBD

The All Day Collagen was better for me. Part of me also leans toward it because it doesn't have some potential skin irritating ingredients like the flower extracts and alcohol in the Collagen. Though Snail Secretion is ingredient 3 in the Collagen while 5 for the All Day Collagen.

Ingredient comparison:

Yadah All Day Collagen Ingredients.PNGAll Day CollagenYadah Collagen Ingredients.PNGCollagen

Remaining batting order:

Thursday - All Day Rose

Saturday - All Day Aloe

Sunday - Nose Strip

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm loving your reviews @ShortErica !  Before this week I would have put the snail Yadah at the top of the list and now I'm questioning everything.  But like you, I have more of the snail to use!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This back to back thing is really working out for making me analyze my mask preferences @missjeanie. It is hard to not have a bias toward one mask or another but I think I'm being fair. I'm curious how your ranking will end up after you've done them all.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love when you find a brand that has different lines of masks, and all of them are good, @ShortErica

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I think Yadah has taken the crown from Mediheal as the brand I'm most loyal toward @eshoe though I still would easily buy both!

The nose strips will let me know for sure if Yadah is fairly flawless. But I just don't know that anyone can top Biore on that product.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Aha! This one is a bit wider. I used the black mask because it is easier to see the difference.20190620_083138.jpg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica, good for you for trying out the snail mask. 🐌 @missjeanie is a fan of this one so that’s always a good start for a mask in my mind! 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I am a fan of this one @itsfi , but I'm wondering if it'll still be my favourite after this week.  The jelly mask I tried is pretty darn good. I think the snail is going to be an ingredient that my skin loves forever though.  This mask is going to be an easy one to keep using and loving for me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm all up for some gross masks @itsfi. I don't think snail secretion is so strange. What would you say is the craziest you've tried or one that's so far out there you wouldn't because it's gross?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for your thoughts @ShortErica! I think I have some from this brand but will have to double check... I've noticed that some of my masks expire this year so trying to use those up first.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh yes! @veronika23 use them before they expire. I think I only have one more that expires September 2019 to do before the end of the year. But soon enough I'll have to pay attention to the 2020 masks. This year seems to be flying by!
