Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hee hee @PrettyPaint I was looking for them, too! They sound interesting 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oops, my bad @PrettyPaint! Not all Korean BBQ places give out Yakult. The gummies are in the Yogurt Jelly bag, next to the sheet mask. I would have taken a photo with some of the gummies laid out but ... errrrr .... ummmm .... there are no gummies left. hahaha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh gotcha @itsfi. I was searching everywhere and it didn’t occur to me that they could be in the packaging . Oops! Glad they were yummy! :). I can never control myself with gummies.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I just posted about this in the other thread, but the past two mornings I have used PTR’s 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask. I’m really reaching in terms of the Y theme, but I guess there’s the letter y in the word luxury. 😃

The first day I kept it on for 10 minutes (the instructions indicate 5-10 minutes). I applied a thin layer, though the instructions state to apply a non-transparent generous layer. It was very comfortable to wear and my skin felt pretty soft after removing, although I didn’t notice any huge overall difference in appearance later in the day. Today I kept it on for 15 minutes and applied a much thicker layer as instructed. I also massaged it into my face a few times to help to soak in. My more experienced maskers may be able to shed some light on whether this matters or not? It intuitively made sense, but I’m not sure if people typically do this.

Today it did seem to do a better job moisturizing and softening my skin after keeping it on longer and with a thicker layer. I think it’s possibly a mask you would need to use a few times a week to see desired results. I don’t think I could afford using this one on a regular basis with the higher price tag (it is $80 per 150 mL). It was fun to wear with all the shimmer, though. Overall, I think I would give it a B+, though I may possibly rate a little higher if less cost prohibitive.

Hmmmm...I just noticed I have a pimple on my nose, which is fairly rare for me these days. I have no idea whether it could be correlated to the mask, but just an observation.

Here are are the ingredients:

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I think you are on to something with the thicker layer, @PrettyPaint. I usually use such a thin layer with masks, to stretch them out. Though I am trying to get better about that, since they seem to work better and I have a few I want to open:)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Getting to get to open a new container is definitely good incentive @eshoe. I hadn't really considered that they would be more effective with thicker application. I just happened to see it on these particular instructions, so I figured I'd give it a try! 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I just received this one to try out @PrettyPaint , I've never tried it before so I appreciate the tip to keep it a bit thicker.  I don't usually massage in a mask unless the directions say to (other than when I'm taking it off in the shower), but I'm curious to try it out now.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  Yeah I have no idea whether you are really supposed to massage in a mask, but it did seem to kind of help it sink in better. 🙂 You'll have to let me know what you think!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Great tips about getting the most out of the mask @PrettyPaint. Loved reading about the differences you noticed between day 1 and day 2 as well. I'm all on board for Y in luxury! 😉 I think you could get a Y in for yellow gold too! And, if you've never tried this mask before, then it's a 2019 mask discovery!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @itsfi. I totally forgot about the 2019 mask discovery. In that case, this totally fits the criteria 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Reach all you want to get a Y in @PrettyPaint. I'm so glad you've been loving your gratis already. If I didn't have all my Yadah prepared I'd jump in with you too. Hopefully the pimple is just an odd occurrence. How many uses have you had out of the tube so far? How many do you think you'll get? I'm wondering what's the best way to use it. All in a row or here and there. Hmm.. Both have pros and cons for rating purposes.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  It’s hard to say. I feel like it may be close to half way gone now, and I’ve only used it twice. In order to make it non translucent like recommended in the instructions, you really need to put on a pretty thick layer (as thick as I applied it, though, I could still see my skin showing through). I think I may try to use the masks that advertise more anti-aging results over the course of several days to see if I can notice a difference; otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t be able to make very solid conclusions. For masks with more detox or calming effects I think I’ll feel more comfortable using sporadically.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Those seem like very smart choices @PrettyPaint. I'll probably copycat your plan. 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

No exactly masking related but hoping you all can help. My 12 yr old seem to have close comedones (skin colored raised bumps) on both side of her nose, only couple of very large whiteheads so extracting doesn't help for rest of it. I have tried CosRx BHA and very small teensy bit retinol mixed with a moisturizer. That has helped but not fully resolved and also they start to come back.

Any nose strip or mask or routine that can help with that or should I continue with the BHA & Retinol (4 days gap between the two else her skin becomes rough-er).

She wasn't regular with moisturizer but in last 2-3 weeks I have been able to entice her to get into routine of washing with soap at night, buffet, Moisturizer and then moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning. That has improved her skin quite a bit.

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@naturalooks15 my commodone fight team. these are very strong (and $$) retinols. So like The Ordinary or Inkey would be better. And this vitamin c is a powder from Soko Glam. It’s only $25 and your add a teenie tiny scoop to whatever, I add it to a little bit of toner and it dissolves perfectly.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Interesting @Weetart  that you have Missah and Estee Lauder serum both. I had read somewhere that Missah is the dupe for night recovery. Do you feel that way?

Consistency and texture is pretty similar I think but don't know if the results are the same (I didn't have the Estee Lauder one big enough to test efficacy and compare).

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@naturalooks15 I’ve been curious on the difference too! I’m nearly done with my Missha and thought I’d test it out. I am slowly switching to the Estée Lauder. Right now I’m at the every other day stage and I could feel some extra heat and dryness, but it is a new formula to my skin. I don’t seem to be allergic to it so I will buy a larger bottle once I’m done with the sample sizes I have. I figure 6 months on one, then six months on the other, I’ll see what my skin likes better.

I also use Lancome genifique, but I consider it my skin brightener. It really evened out my skin tone but didn’t make a difference in my skin texture compared to the vit C.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe @naturalooks15  The only other vitamin C product I’ve tried and really liked is Lilyana Vitamin C serum. One highly rated one I have not tried is DE’s. But I prefer the powder because I can add it to whatever and it’s stable. I’ve added it to watery lotions, emulsions, serums. If I feel extra dry, I add it to a watery lotion, if not, emulsion. It has no scent, dissolves quickly and comes with a wee little scoop. I use one scoop in the morning, the packaging says you can use up to two scoops.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh that’s very cool @Weetart. For some reason I wasn’t expecting such a fine powder. I’m interested in it because I don’t like the scent of most vitamin C serums and the stability in the dry form.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @Weetart  Good to know.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @Weetart  for sharing this. I also might try the bamboo powder along with the DE Slai or some other physical exfoliation on her once a week and see if that helps. If that doesn't, I'll probably visit a derm

I am also very interested in knowing how the Vit C powder works and if you can compare it to any Vit C serum.
