2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That sounds pretty good, @Shosh85! I have this one sitting my collection, so I'll have to give it a try soon and see how it works out!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork It was really nice! I could've done without the alcohol completely, but it turned out great nonetheless. 😉🤗

oh awesome @Shosh85 I have a couple when masks without al...

oh awesome @Shosh85 I have a couple when masks without alcohol I need to try!

Re: oh awesome @Shosh85 I have a couple when masks without al...

@lmaster I have some without it too! Which ones do you have?

Re: oh awesome @Shosh85 I have a couple when masks without al...

@Shosh85 apparently I only have one when mask that doesn't contain alcohol 🤔 it's the winter version that came in facetory,I believe,,I swore I had more than one

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sounds like an around good mask @Shosh85 !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie If it didn't have alcohol at all it would've been perfect, but it's farther down so it's not too bad – and as long as the results turn out good I'm happy. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, this mask contains platinum, more expensive than gold, way to glow, girl!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u Haha! I didn't notice that! I don't mind glowing 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 This mask sounds interesting ! I’m curious to know what the ingredients are in this mask? Smooth and glowing skin sounds great! ❤️❤️❤️ bio-cellulose masks ! Sorry that it wasn’t hydrating like you wished it would be! Did the serum contain sodium hyaluronate? I’m always curious to find out what the ingredients are 🧐. The title is quite ambiguous... since it doesn’t mention anything about what this mask is supposed to be used for or any of the key ingredients contained in the serum.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1  Sorry, when I first tried to post the ingredients it wouldn't load, so I gave up. Finally got them to load if you want to take a look. It has Sodium Hyaluronate, but it's in the bottom half of ingredients. It has alcohol too, but near the middle of the list, so I wasn't as worried about it – and it turned out so great! I will probably try and use sparingly though, just in case 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @Shosh85 for posting the ingredients list! I wouldn’t worry about the alcohol but it would have been much more hydrating if the sodium hyaluronate was high up in the ingredients list but I’m glad that you enjoyed your masking experience! 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Week 20 - May 13 - 19 - T - Summer Masks

Well I decided to dive right into my @missjeanie treats and figured I might want to try a mask as well. Spoiler: it did not disappoint!

I finally busted out my gratis (thanks @TeamBIC) of the GLAMGLOW - SUPERTONER ™ Exfoliating Acid Solution Tonerand used the Holika Holika Green Tea mask.

So the toner - holy acids! I guess my face is basically an acid virgin and even a slight swipe across the face and I could feel it. I think the peppermint oil also stuck out. Though I almost got an anise like scent occasionally. Shout out to @WinglessOne for the reusable cotton round inspiration and recommendations.

The mask was a good soother. Out of the package it was quite sudsy. I wish I would have taken a picture but both eye holes had bubbles across them. I wasn't a fan of the easy open package. I think tearing or cutting is simpler.

My face:

I wish it would have been slightly higher on the forehead. I was able to manipulate it on my face well. The fold puckered some as I wore it. Not a big deal considering there was a bit extra on the sides and under the chin. Dang was it serum packed though! The chin was dripping on me as I was folding kid clothes. Also wanted to comment the philtrum area was appropriately sized. @Shosh85 @itsfi @eshoe - is this the way to use it in a sentence? Now to get the boys to say the word. Hahaha.

Back to the mask. I wore this thing for 40 minutes ignoring the 10-20 minute recommendation. My skin looked even and bright. Not sure it helped with plumpness though. Looking at the ingredients this would make sense. There's the centella asiatica which should help with redness. But there isn't something like hyaluronic acid or collagen that I would associate with plumping. Maybe I do understand a bit about this ingredient analysis type thing.

@lmaster, ingredient-wise would this be a good mask for you?

The serum must have been focused on the mask because what was left in the package was barely enough for the backs of my hands. I liked the ingredients, liked no alcohol or fragrance, liked the wear time and the general fit, liked the results. Negatives would be the dripping at the beginning, the puckering of the fold (maybe I should have flipped it around), a slight tackiness to the skin, and I think that's about it. So a really good mask. Solid A I think.

Thanks so much @missjeanie! Have you tested this one out?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

hahaha! That would be very cute and so funny if your boys said philtrum. lol!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica when I researched it, the philtrum referred to solely the area between the two vertical indentations above your lips/below your nose. But it's the closest and easiest way to say that area without a run-on sentence like I just wrote Smiley Very Happy @Shosh85 @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'll work on using it with better accuracy next time @eshoe. Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Lol I am just annoyed there’s not a word for it @ShortErica! Would love if someone comes up with some mask language that describes it, like ‘scrubbies’ @missjeanie @Shosh85 😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I usually go with moustache @eshoe , but maybe missstache for the ladies?? Lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You got me there @missjeanie I love it 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica The Green Tea Mask sounds great! I've been seeing a lot of Holika Holika masks at TJ Maxx recently – I'll have to back and see if there are any left! Nice job using philtrum! Haha! It really does cover that area well doesn't it! There have been so many masks that almost literally have a string of material there! I'm glad it turned out great! Also, be sure to update us on the boys saying philtrum! 😍👍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It sounds great @ShortErica!😊
