ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I really liked these masks as well!  I remember buying a bunch when they came out this time last year and having a masking party!  They were super creepy!  Especially when trying to pose drinking from the spoon straws. @Shosh85 410D795E-5AB6-40C1-B90F-07D25809C262.jpeg

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface What a great photo! A masking party would be awesome with these! 😍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyfaceWhat a great photo!  I don't think I've seen one where you have 'natural' hair colour.  You really can pull off any look!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is such a great photo @heartsmyface! Y'all look fab!

@Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I was surprised too how much I liked the Dr Jart mask @Shosh85! I want to try the Brightening one next as well. I think I’ll pick up that one and the Soothing one at the next sale (and maybe another one of this Hydrating one too)! I think the Soothing one would be nice to have on hand, for use after a strong peel, or if my skin has a bad reaction to a mask or product.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ice Bear says masks are cool.  @Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface Ice Bear is pretty smart 🐻🤓😎

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I didn’t end up doing skincare last night cause I was reorganizing my beautyroom and lost track of the time.  Then Z wanted cuddles and that was the end for me.  I woke up feeling particularily dry so I’m doing this Ole Henriksen Berry Nurturing Gel Mask.  I realize it says lavender on the jar so I don’t know why I was expecting it to smell like berries.  Update in 20minutes:)  edit- alright!  My thoughts:  it a anice niceqeight gel that smells somewhat verbally with lavendaer mixed in.  It’s a nice light fresh scent though.  The instructions said to apply a thick layer and that always makes me hesitant.  Like how thick? Cause I can plaster it on!!  Tell me in mm so I don’t mess this up.  I applied about a mm and left it for twenty minutes (longer by accident) The gel seemed to melt on my skin and felt oily by the time I was ready to wash into off.  My skin feels gooood.  It’s nice and bouncy and hydrated!  Dang, I should be getting up and masking in the mornings more often!  I would definitely give this an A+.  It says to follow with my favorite ole moisturizer, so being the obedient girl I am, I threw on sheer transformation and a little truth serum.  😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

By looking at it I would assume it smells like berries also @heartsmyface

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I haven't seen this one before @heartsmyface Sounds like a keeper for sure though, as are most Ole products I've tried!  Such a great brand!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooooh this mask sounds right up my alley @heartsmyface 💗🤩 Love their Blackberry Enzyme mask, it has a lavender scent too. Haven’t seen this one before, sounds like you and your skin got some love😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  Thanks for this review. I picked this up from TJ Maxx recently and haven’t used it yet. Was hoping it was great because I’ve had great results/experiences with the OH line. Now I look forward to trying this out.

I've never seen this mask before!! @heartsmyface looks gr...

I've never seen this mask before!! @heartsmyface looks great!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooh, so happy to hear your thoughts on this one @heartsmyface! 😊 It sounds wonderful! 💕 Perfect follow up to late night organization and cuddles with the kiddo!! I have the OH waiting to be used once I get through the masks that are already open. 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface This is on my lists of masks to try – It sounds so great! I've really liked the other products I've tried from the line! Glad it worked so well for you!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  I really like Ole stuff as well!  The products have never let me down.  And if you’re ever in a situation where you meet Ole himself, he’s a hugger.  I love hugs so that’s a bonus in my book!

Also, I feel like either I am just really easy to please or I’ve been on a lucky streak with the masking lately.  😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s a two-fer tonight – “H” is for Holika Holika and my gross contribution comes in the form of black sea cucumber (aka holothurian atra aka lollyfish). Let’s just say that I was thankful that I googled it after I used the mask.

IMG_4935.JPG

Spoiler
The Holika Holika Prime Youth Black Sea Cucumber Mask Sheet is a 2-piece black hydrogel. Hydrogels are really hit or miss for me, depending largely on its staying power. Most, but not all, hydrogels tend to be a little too slippery and end up sliding down my face, particularly the bottom piece.  Not this Holika Holika mask though. This is probably the best fitting hydrogel mask, and maybe best fitting mask period  that I’ve used. The only adjustment I needed to make was to the sides of the bridge of the nose / inner corner of the eyes and adding a couple of slits to the bottom to help with adherence; everything else could be moved about ever so slightly to fit well. The mask also adhered wonderfully to the contours of my face and stayed in place for the entire 30 minutes I had it on. Yaaay! 🙂  The mask has a light floral-ish scent, which I think is from the added fragrance, a minus in my book, but then again, I don’t know what black sea cucumber would smell like naturally so maybe the added fragrance is a plus? You can smell scent upon opening the pack and immediately upon applying it to your face, but after that it pretty much disappears. The mask feels cooling and relaxing when it’s on; it’s a mask that I think would feel nice to use after a long day or a long flight, or both. 🙂  I used this after work tonight and before heading out for dinner and it was fine, but in retrospect, if I had another one of these masks, I’d use it at the end of the day because  I can see how it might be helpful with winding down before bed.

The mask claims to provide some anti-aging effects (i.e., soften skin’s texture and increase its elasticity) but I’m of the school of thought that it is highly unlikely that you’ll see anti-aging results with one single use.  It doesn’t feel like there’s a lot of essence on the mask and the only extra essence in the pouch is what is stuck to the inside of the packet.  That said, the mask itself does leave my skin feeling nicely hydrated after removing the mask, albeit slightly tacky to the touch.  The tackiness wears off after the essence has been fully absorbed. My skin feels soft and smooth and there’s a freshness, a brightness to my complexion. My skincare and makeup glides on smoothly and easily after this mask. It’s an “A” mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ok @itsfi   I had to google it, as I associated this with a plant. OMG!!! That thing looks SO disgusting. I don’t think I could. I agree that it belongs with snails 🐌🤢🤭

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfiI think on the gross scale this one might fit as less than horse, but more than snail.  I'm amazed at how many gross masks are such winners on the result front!  And I agree with @eshoe we should have a mask awards ceremony... a list of nominations and then a winner to go with! lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie , I agree with you on the scale of gross. 👍🏼 Gross week has produced a lot more winners than I expected. This has definitely been an interesting week. 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi @Sounds like a great mask to try and good idea looking up info after applying it. You may not have known how great it is if you had before. 😛
