13 year old skincare?

Does anyone have any suggestions for some good skincare products for a 13 year old? She has pretty normal skin, possibly maybe a little bit more on the oily side. If you have products that you love that are drugstore I would prefer that because she doesn't necessarily need to get into those expensive products right away. But if there are any really great products on Sephora that you would really recommend for her young skin that aren't crazy expensive I would be willing to order for them. Remember, she's only 13 so she doesn't need a whole lot. Also, give a separate morning and night routine because I know the time of the day depends on the routine. She wears a little bit of mascara daily so she will need something to remove it. Thank you so much! I know that this is specific and you probably think I'm insane for going into such detail but acne really gets a girl's confidence down and I don't want her to have to go through the bullying I did at my age, so I am really just trying to find the best skin products for her. If you see this and you think you have an idea of what to get her started on, feel free to respond to me, I would love that!

Hi @Anonymous ! I'm also a young teenager and I would recommend the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser (drugstore), SEPHORA COLLECTION All Day Hydrator - Hydrate & Glow 1.01oz/ 30mL , and Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA +++ 1.7 oz/ 50 mL , or a Neutrogena sunscreen. She may want to also use a toner Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner 5.07 oz/ 150 mL ! Also, if she starts getting acne, I love the Kate Somerville EradiKate Daily Cleanser 4 oz/ 120 mL . I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂 I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful day ❤️

Re: 13 year old skincare?

Hey I know this is probably way to late but I hope this can still help. Please know I am not a dermatologist or skin care aesthetician or skin hair specialist I am just around the same age and I would hate to experience acne and I just want to help Out a friend this is my routine and I have normal skin but also pretty sensitive at the same time.

Night: To remove mascara Or other makeup you should use any non fragrance micellaire water with a Cotten pad and just hold it on the eye for a few seconds and then wipe it of. You don’t want to be to rough on the eyes but I’m pretty sure you here that from everyone. I also recommend cleaning the whole face with this water because you need to remove your sun screen. But anyway instead of that you can also use cleansing oil / balm. And you don’t need a cotton pad for that.  Then I would recommend cerave for the most part. I’ve heard Cetaphil is the same thing but like a cheaper I’ve never tried it though so. Cerave is drug store and it works well for my experience. Every time I try to buy something expensive it burns my face right off this stuff is fine for my skin . For night I would use the foaming facial cleanser. Then i would recommend the ordinary Marine hyaluronic‘s, This one is from Sephora but it’s really cheap and it has like antioxidants in it and like stuff from Antarctica And it’s really light, But if you don’t want all the fancy stuff just go with the ordinary hyaluronic acid I’ve never tried that one but I’ve heard it’s like the same thing but just thicker so it might pill under other products. I know she’s only 13 but you can never go wrong with a bit of extra hydration. Then since it’s night time I like to use some thing a bit thicker to keep all the moisture I just put on my face in so I will use the cerave moisturizing CREAM. And I heard somewhere that Squalene ( if I’m spelling that right ) is really good for hormonal breakouts so sometimes when I’m having hormonal breakouts before I use the cream I’ll just use the e.l.f. Super moisturizer With Squalene, this is also drugstore.

Morning: So in the morning i usually use the cerave hydrating facial cleanser because I just don’t want to be too harsh on my face by cleansing with the the foam twice a day but it’s probably not that big of a deal I just don’t have oily skin but I’m also very breakout prone so I just wanna be gentle but like also cleanse my face in the morning If you don’t want to spend to much money just get the foaming one especially if she has oily skin. And then I use the marine hyaluronic serum and then I use the  Cerave face moisturizer with SPF 30. Please wear spf especially since she’s 13 u wanna protect her skin as fast as possible.  I am a darker skin tone so it does have kind of a white cast but it’s not that bad on me I’m not that dark but Definitely on the darker side and I don’t want to throw it out so I’m going to use it up but I’ve heard that the Neutrogena hydroboost sunscreen is pretty clear and that’s drugstore. Also if you don’t want to get the serum from Sephora i used the Hydro boost serum a few times and it has fragrance and I’m really sensitive to fragrances and I started having a few breakouts since I started using it but it also could be hormonal breakouts I really don’t know.

And if your having a really bad break out day I recommend the Aztec healing clay face mask where I live I can’t get the ordinary HABHA facemask but I heard that works really well to anyway the Astec facemask just add like a little teensy Wincy bit of apple cider vinegar just a bit like you don’t want to burn off your face and don’t wash down your sink I made that mistake smh But you can get it cheap off of Amazon but yeah I hope I could help.

and like I said like I tried first aid beauty and like other things that are expensive and they like made my face dry and oily and it burned most of the time so I just decided to go with cerave because it’s like a dermatologist developed or something like that . Anyway wish you the best 💕

thank you so so much!!!!!

Re: 13 year old skincare?

I know you've had so many good replies already, but this hit so close to my home bc my niece, who is 13, is dealing with acne herself, and I know how you feel .. you want to protect her from absolutely everything, and part of that includes insecurity over her skin.

Something that we understand a lot better now than back when I was a teen was that the way to treat oily and acneic skin is with TLC, not to strip it dry.

K beauty is so trendy and fun, I was able to "window shop" (online) for it with her without it feeling like .. I am trying to help you with your acne (which would have made her feel worse).

Cleansing - Banila Co. "Clean it Zero" has a few options, hanskin has "pore cleansing balm", both of these can be found on sokoglam and are "sherbet" cleansers and are $20 or so.  They will take care of mascara, but are also really great at getting oil off the face -- like dissolves like.

Tone - ACWell Licorice toner, $18, also at sokoglam. Again there are a number of mildly-exfoliating, mildly-astringent, non-stripping toners, this one is to me, the best one at the best price. It will do wonders for her pores as well as her complexion.  There are others that are more focused on sebum control ( belif makes one, for example ) so maybe if the ACWell doesn't work, try one of those.

Treat - Day - the ordinary niacinamide and zinc, night, the ordinary azelaic acid.

Moisturize - dozens of choices here, and again, if she's the type that likes to pick, might be fun for her. there's a number of clear / jelly / water moisturizers that make your skin bouncy and don't add any oil. make pr:em radiance peeling sleeping pack ($30) would be a great overnight moisturizer, bc it has a mild exfoliant so it would help with her skin tone as well as moisturize. bliss "drench and quench" is a water cream sold at target (and other places) for about $18. Missha "super aqua cell water-full..." is a clear, lightweight moisturizer. neutrogena hydroboost is $17. ELF hello hydration is a great option for only $12, and as a headsup, it's 50% off any order over 30.

Anyway, a four step skincare routine should be enough for a young teen, and just enough to be "fun" for her. if you do order from soko glam I would throw in some panda-bear masks and that sort of thing. I don't know her personality but like another poster said, it is great that you're leading her into great habits now.

Good luck to you and her.  It's so sweet to see how much you care.

Re: 13 year old skincare?

Hi! I have a really similar skin type and I'm only a couple years older, this is what I've found works for me- my acne has gone down a lot! What I've found helps the most though is a lot of water, going outside in the sun (with sunscreen ofc), and keeping a routine!

Morning:
Burt's Bees Sensitive Cleanser (the one with cotton)

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

The Ordinary Caffeine 5% + EGCG Depuffing Eye Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

(that's for my dark circles thanks to finals haha)

The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane 1 oz/ 30 mL

(I've heard the rosehip oil is pretty good too, but I steer clear from most oils just in case they start clogging my pores.)

Night:

Burt's Bees Sensitive Cleanser (it usually gets the little bit of makeup I wear off)

The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA 1 oz/ 30 mL

(This is a more gentle acid, the Lactic Acid 5 - 10% could be a good replacement! If she does end up using this make sure she wears sunscreen when she goes outside for a long period of time, this will make her skin more sensitive to the sun. If she wants to spot treat with Salicylic Acid, this would be the time to do it! Just don't mix them)

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Oil Control Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

The Ordinary Caffeine 5% + EGCG Depuffing Eye Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL

The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane 1 oz/ 30 mL

RE: 13 year old skincare?

Hi! I have the same skin and needs as your 13 year old! Something i love using that’s on the less expensive side is Dr. Bronners cleansing soap, with a witch hazel toner (i get mine from thayers or dickinsons) andcera ve daily moisturizing lotion with some aloe vera gel (from the leaf or bottle, but make sure it’s like 99% aloe vera). The cleanser takes off all my makeup and a little goes a SUPER long way. Also, make sure, but only in the morning, that she uses a sunscreen. I use Neutrogena in SPF 30 or 55

Re: 13 year old skincare?

I actually have a 14 year old sister and I only buy her KHIEL'S products. They are very good for sensitive skin and young skin. My sister has combination skin, clear, baby soft, no acne or dark spots, never applies makeup, almost perfect skin. I was very heasitant to let her get into skin care but she wanted to start so I got her KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Ultra Facial Cream and KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Ultra Facial Cleanser. She uses it every night. She washes her face with just cold water in the morning and applies the cream. Sunscreen is a good option!

Re: 13 year old skincare?

The thing to do at that age, @Anonymous is develop good habits. I'd keep it simple- cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen to start. I know you mention wanting to keep her from being bullied (and bless you for being aware of that), but is she dealing with acne currently or are you mostly just looking to get her established with an easy routine? As far as drugstore items, a lot of people love CeraVe for relatively cheap, gentle yet effective cleansers and moisturizers. For the eye makeup, I'd recommend Neutrogena's Eye Makeup Remover.

Yes, she does have a few spots around the face.

Re: 13 year old skincare?

I’d suggest the Origins Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash 5 oz/ 150 mL

to help calm down acne, the origins brand is fairly cheap and has a lot of products to help out acne (: I use it and it’s helped clear mine! I also recommend the brand first aid they have some great products also. Origins Super Spot Remover™ Acne Treatment Gel with Salicylic Acid 0.3 oz/ 10 mL

SEPHORA COLLECTION Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover 4.2 oz / 125 mL

I hope this helped a bit!
