Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

I don't know if there's a "best time" to buy all your stuff. I think the best time to buy stuff is very unique to each individual. For example, if you love hair products maybe you want to wait until the love your hair event. If you love gifts with purchase maybe you want to wait until a good platinum perk bag comes along. I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all approach to shopping. I also think Ulta throws more curve balls than Sephora does. They have the GWPs, point multipliers, and 20% off coupons so there are more moving parts to the 'best time to shop at Ulta' equation than there are at Sephora.
As a new shopper at Ulta, the best incentives you'll get are point multipliers, the random coupons for free gifts with any purchase, and the 20% off sales. This board is definitely a great place to start if you're new because we'll all start talking about when there's a particularly good offer at Ulta.
The spreadsheet has a tab for all the 2017 events, so that's the best resource going forward right now. Definitely keep an eye on it for hints into what might be coming, but nothing is really set in stone.
The big sale events, like 21 Days of Beauty, Love Your Skin, etc, seem to maintain their pattern of dates.
Beauty Breaks used to always happen on Wed with an occasional extra one here and there, but Ulta seems to be mixing those up a bit more...we've missed a few Wednesdays this year, but have seen more on Mon or Fri.
There were a couple of one-day-only 20% coupons in the past that morphed into more-than-a-week q's the following year, so if nothing else, those are improving a bit.
I think smaller events, like Plat Perk days, happen on a less rigorous schedule...they typically center around a new release or two, so those happen when a manufacturer wants to highlight a new item or offer some other short term incentive.
To sum it up... yes and no, and things are always subject to change lol.
@Erikaw512, If you don't mind my asking.... Ulta just introduced the Diamond tier around the beginning of this month. How did you reach it already if you're a new Ulta customer Ulta? I'm curious because I heard that Ulta may be "grandfathering" some Platinum customers to Diamond.
No worries! I'm "new" to the product end of Ulta I should say. Been going there for a few years for eyebrows but never bought anything else (was strictly a grocery store beauty shopper) but at the beginning of the year needed to throw out a bunch of old stuff, restock on daily use stuff and wanted to try a bunch of things and have gotten wayyyy too carried away and become an Ulta & Sephora junky...hence trying to figure out how to be a better shopper lol.
@Erikaw512 Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Yeah, there's a method to Ulta's "madness" but they've been changing things up quite a bit. I used to keep the previous years' order confirmations and emails so I'd know when to expect certain promotions and major sales. The ladies here and on Reddit really know they're stuff and how best to capitalize on Ulta's numerous sales and promotions.
Diamond is a brand new level for Ulta this year, and less than two months into the year, I'm guessing there aren't all that many Diamond folks quite yet. We have no history on Diamond promos since it's so new, but I would imagine as the year progresses, those will pick up the pace. The first Diamond promo, the full size BadGal Bang mascara, was a pretty nice freebie, so I expect there will be more nice stuff ahead for the Diamond crowd.
New! Anastasia Beverly Hills 5x multiplier!
Colourpop is up!
Nice to see that they released some of their singles instead of just exclusive products...not a ton of selection yet, but hopefully that means they'll expand the range Ulta carries in the future, assuming this first round is successful (as if it couldn't be 😋)
And a new multiplier. I dunno about y'all, but I'm almost tired of this one 😅
Hoping they will add more Colourpop products! And looks like we can use non-prestige coupons on Colourpop, which is great.
Got a coupon code in my email today for 40% off bareMinerals Mineral veil (expires 3.3.18), please comment if used 🙂

What a boring, dull, uneventful platinum perk day!!! Nothing will urge me to buy anything today
They can't all be winners...I skipped several Platinum Perk days last year that seemed rather snoozy too. No worries though, Ulta always comes through with more goodies! 😃
I doubt we'll ever see another day like the last one though...that was one for the history books 🙃
for reals...they were probably extra careful to make sure the same bonanza didn't happen this time lol
Platinum Perk day!
So far I'm only seeing two items marked as platinum access
Site-wide gwp
New multiplier
And can someone please tell me what a pore mat is? I don't know if my pores need one or not 😄
I'm really intrigued by the new Becca powder, too. I wonder when the official release date is? I'm going out of town tomorrow for three weeks so maybe I'll just wait or save the money and see what exciting makeup Australia has to offer me. 🤔
