Let's keep this thread on topic!

Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):

Spoiler

Item #1 - $53.50

Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)

* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x

Total Spent - $162

Base Points Earned - 162

Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)

5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)

5x Item/Brand Earned - 434

Total Points Earned - 1285

Spoiler

Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.

Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.

The product id is the number given to the item in the URL.  So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number.  If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.

It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.

Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar.  It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204  Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.

My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:

(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward.  E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward.  Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase.  Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Thanks @RGbrown!! Now my quandary is: Do I wait to See if Ulta drops a GWP, or just make my purchase...? 😂

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ClassicallyFab

That's a toughie.

FWIW, there wasn't a GWP for the 10x day in Aug. But then again, that was only a day, and we didn't have a 10x in March last year to compare to.

I do think Ulta is trying to spread out the deals a bit more, and a GWP during this event, while certainly not impossible, isn't terribly likely...maaayyybe on Sun or Mon, but I'd be somewhat surprised if there is one at all.

I'm holding off a bit because I just don't see anything I can't live without, and have no fear of anything going OOS. If a GWP drops, I might grab a few things. But if there's something you want, I'd say go for it...10x is a very nice bonus on it's own, even without a GWP.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown There was a 3 days 10 X point perk November 2 -  November 4 in 2017. I checked my email and a couple of the same items are currently being offered for 10 X. I remember purchasing the Stila Glitter & Glow eyeshadow in Rose Gold Retro and receiving the extra points.

I went to an Ulta store yesterday and purchased the 32 ounce Devacurl One Condition and a Stila Glitter & Glow in Sea Siren. I should have ordered any colors that I may have been interested in purchasing to receive 10 X points. I have a feeling that enough people contacted Ulta for point adjustments that the system only lets you purchase the 8 colors that are included in the link. At least I got to swatch all colors that I was interested in purchasing. Sea Siren is gorgeous!

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55

Ah, so we did; I had forgotten about that one, and didn't scroll far enough through the sheet to come across it. Thanks for the reminder!

So sorry points didn't work in store on Sea Siren ☹️

Re: Ulta GWPs

You’re excellent! @RGbrown Thanks for your invaluable input!

Re: Ulta GWPs

Got the email around 7:30am est

Re: Ulta GWPs

My beef with this promotion is that only the Devacurl One Condition is 10 X points. I was hoping for the No Poo shampoo also to be offered at 10 X. Nothing else appeals to me. Maybe I will try another color of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55Are the stila glitter shadows showing up as 10x for you?  They are not for me (I am looking to purchase the 3 mermaid colors and cloud, which is a new release).  I'm wondering if it is only certain colors.

Edit: NM.  It looks like it's working now.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarin

Now that I see your edit that it's working for you, nothing is working for me anymore, not even items that worked at 2am. Sigh. What a mess.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrownLOL I feel like I just gave you the flu.  Sorry!

Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarin

No worries, it's certainly not you. 😄

This is the weirdest thing I've seen from Ulta...things work, and then don't, and then work again. I've never seen it so spotty like this. Every time I add something new to my cart, it's a crapshoot to see if the points stick or disappear. Crazy stuff.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown I bought the stila liquid shadows through google express so I got 20% off from google express but as far as Ulta is concerned I paid full price.  I looked at the points history online and saw that I only got 1.25x my purchase instead of the 10.25x, so I called Ulta and they said they are crediting my account with the points.  With the 20% off I earned about 12.8x points.  Yay!

Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarin I was going to let you know that it just worked for me. I purchased the Stila Vault when it was available on Black Friday so I am not sure if I really want to purchase any additional colors.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarin

I haven't played with all of them so I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's only the listing with the original 8 colors (Ballet Baby, Smoky Storm, etc) since that's the only one on the page linked from the email.

Re: Ulta GWPs

If any of you guys are thinking of getting the UD all nighter spray, buy direct. The whole website is 25% off. I got two full size sprays for $31.50 which is the same price as one at ulta. Includes free shipping and you only need to spend $100 to get a $10 reward

Re: Ulta GWPs

@AnonymousThanks for highlighting the UD sale going on now!  Now is a great time to buy from UD direct.  However, let's take a look at what $200 gets you at both UD and Ulta.

UD - Spend $200 and get $267 worth of product (factoring in the 25% off.  25% off of $267 is $200).  You would get $20 in kickbacks.  Total of $200 spent for $287 worth of products.

Ulta - Spend $200 and get $200 worth of product (no discount).  You would earn 2050 points aka $125 in points.  Total of $200 spent for $325 worth of products.

Ulta is actually the better deal in the long run, but if you would rather save money today than save more money in the long run UD may be a better option for you.  You have to decide how much more products you want to buy.  If you only plan on spending a little bit UD may be the better option.  But if you know you need to buy makeup all the time like a complete junkie, Ulta is the better plan.  It just depends on what you're looking for.  If you were being fiscally conservative aka smart, the UD deal is better.  🙂

Re: Ulta GWPs

Just to play a little devil's advocate here 😄

For an overview of items in general, yes, your analysis makes sense, but we also have to compare apples to apples when talking about specific items. She is purchasing a 2pk of setting spray at UD for $42, whereas the Ulta deal is only on the single bottle for $32.

7 sets at UD = $294, minus the 25%, net 220.50

-earn $20, and have 14 bottles of spray, which would retail for $440 at Ulta

(earn $20 is a bit iffy here...if you're under $100 in spending for the year, then you'd only get $10, as the first one is $10 at $100 spent, but then it's $20 for every additional $200 after that; we'll just leave it at $20 since we're comparing to $200 at Ulta for ease)

~Net product value based on retail of one bottle $460

~Or if you'd rather leave the value as the set price, total value is $314

Each bottle costs $15.71, and provides either 22.42 (142% return) or 32.85 in value (209% return)

7 single bottles at Ulta =  $224

No discount, but earn 2240+ points, aka $125 plus some change

Net product value $349

Each bottle costs $32 and provides 49.85 in value (155% return)

~The spending is similar for both scenarios, and the Ulta value falls in between the 2 possible UD numbers, so depending on which one you choose to use, either store could win. BUT you have half as many bottles with the same amount of spending if you go with Ulta over UD.

Apples to apples, buying single bottles at both stores: yes, Ulta would win. But the double pack at UD makes that a better deal in this particular instance IMHO, when you compare bottle to bottle.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown I missed the part about it being a two pack.  Two packs are really good deals.  I'm still working my way through my second bottle of this stuff.  I bought a 2 pack back in like 2014 or something.  LOL.  Whatever you do, definitely don't buy $200 worth of 2 packs!

RE: Ulta GWPs

Okay so I’m confused! I had $69 worth of the multiple points products in my cart (I’m Platinum) yet it said I only earned lik 469 points with this order??? Why didn’t I get 690? ( I’m pushing to hit 2000 btw)

Re: RE: Ulta GWPs

@muddlepupcan you post a pic of the items in your cart?
