Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

I purchased 2 of them @CookieGirl1. My BA recommended these products and I see a big difference. The scent of the Kate Somerville is fruity.
@itscarin I surprised myself and placed 2 orders (I almost never do that) and got both GWP samplers. In first, I got Marc Jacobs Perfect, which is 5x promo and 5x fragrance crush (plus I snatched a duffel bag before they went OOS). In second, I got a tube of Ahava hand cream (25% off), some B2G1 Ulta liquid soap, Body Shop’s Ginger Scalp shampoo for hubby (also 25% off) – all 10x. Redeeming a birthday perk in order #2 brought my GWP threshold down to $40. With double birthday base points, $10 off coupon on order #1 and about 1371 points in total, I am content with the math. But the de-cluttering goal is about to get harder… 🤣
haha, I love the "surprise myself" part. I guess I need to place another order to surprise myself too! 😉
@civ2ru I love that BS ginger shampoo! I've never tried anything else quite like it for healing the scalp from irritation.
@civ2ru Happy birthday month! Please let us know how the duffel is 🙂
Happy birthday month, @civ2ru ! You just reminded me about the Ulta body washes; there are a couple I like enough to use as hand soap. Now I might have to place a second order. 😄 Good job maximizing your earned points!
@WinglessOne have you tried the whim line? I got the macadamia one when it was half off, bc of the good reviews...and it smells soooo good!!! had no idea it was so huge, too...and lathers sooo nice, which is great bc its sulfate free!!! I def. wanna try more when theyre half off again. I wish the macadamia one was in lotion and body spray form too, haha...it would be like a much cheaper alternative to SDJ's sweet scents. 🤤🤗
@civ2ru @Happy birthday month! The perfume is points goals! Now I’m tempted to do the same even though I have no business with more perfume.
The only 10X pointers I got was a Lancome mascara and primer. I made two orders so I got both promo gifts. My thing is that I've done so little shopping at Ulta this year that I wasn't even close to hitting platinum, much less retaining diamond. (That's because I've been doing a lot of buying at Sephora and snapping up the $100 Rouge promos...that, and I've been expanding my buying into more luxe stuff, like Chanel and Sisley, so Nordstrom and Niemans have been getting my coin.)
Even so, I still want to at least keep my platinum status, if only to make sure my points don't expire. So in addition to the Lancome stuff and some Ulta liquid soap (I love their soap!), I bought a container of Fresh Black Tea Instant Mask, something I would've bought anyway (and am I EVER glad Ulta is now offering Fresh!) I bought a few other things that've been bumping around in my cart for months. I could've easily used points to buy them, but I WANT to spend $$$ to at least hit $500 to make platinum, which I did with these orders. I got around 1500 points, all told, and my point total is now around $350.
I'm usually one of the obsessives when it comes to getting expensive stuff at a great discount, but sometimes you gotta spend if you want to keep a minimum tier. You guys all did great! 🙂
Ohhh, I miss being Sephora Rouge. I used to make Rouge every year and loved those $100 promos but since having kiddos I've traded Charlotte Tillbury for Babo Originals LOL. Haven't even made VIB in a couple of years but maybe this time I'll splurge on some lovelies and try.
Also not such a huge effort to make Platinum and maybe even Diamond.. I spend $$$ when the Babo baby line goes on sale every July.
@Harobedb I think ulta is becoming like Sephora where it’s beneficial to be in the second tier of the loyalty program but not really the first tier. I know I won’t shed a tear if I don’t make diamond this year. I’m all set with their diamond perks.
That's the problem. Even if I try, and I did have to really try to make Diamond two years ago, it's hard to hit that spending threshold at Ulta (it takes zero effort at Sephora...unfortunately!) And last year, I didn't hit Diamond, but they gave it to me anyway, I think to "encourage" me to do it on my own. I think they're gonna be very disappointed!
@itscarin 2 or 3 days ago, I placed an order that includes NYX, Revlon, MAC, and Ulta Beauty products—which OF COURSE are all now worth 10x points. At least I got Rakuten’s 9% cash back. And while I’m grumbling: I’m still not getting promo emails, aside from that one I magically got 2 or 3 weeks ago. 🙄
10x points:
@itscarin Have you ever tried Nars' tinted moisturizer? It's pretty nice, easy to wear. I bought some Briogeo products, a hair mask for curly hair and the co-wash for curly hair.
I also bought several of the large sized Cerave salicylic acid cleanser, recommended by our dermatologist.
A large Kiehl's Ultra Facial cleanser, Tarte Double Duty Brow gel (it has a nice, skinny brush,) and two MAC lipsticks that weren't on sale at MAC direct. That's not much for the $ out of pocket, but it does result in a nice "refund" from Rakuten and Ulta. I earned close to 2500 points.
@Ispend2much6 I literally just bought the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer myself a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it!
@CookieGirl1 I used it several years ago, and really liked it! Glad it was a good purchase for you!
@Ispend2much6 I had a Nars matte tinted moisturizer before. I think it was tinted moisturizer or maybe it was tinted spf. Anyway it felt so thick and goopy and gross. Never again! I did really like the foundation in the square bottle they discontinued about a year ago though.
the rakuten cash back and the points are a nice combo!
@itscarin If you tried NARS's tinted moisturizer before 2021 with no shade matching luck: this year they updated the shade range and replaced some old shades with new versions. I've never had a good shade match in their tinted moisturizer (and previous formulations didn't play nice with my skin), but now one of their new shades, Santiago, is almost a good match for me. So if you've tried this product in the past but not recently, see if any of the newer shades work for you. If your skin's fairly sensitive to lots of fragrance components though, beware that this moisturizer still contains several of those.
@Ispend2much6 I hope you like the CeraVe SA cleanser! Surprisingly, Ulta's price for the largest size is better than Target's. (Usually it's the other way around, as Ulta overcharges for many drugstore items.) I almost bought one of those tonight, too. 🙂
@WinglessOne Thanks for the heads up on NARS' tinted moisturizer! I'll have to see if there's a better match for me now 🙂
@ohheyitscindyk I hope you can find a good match! I highly recommend trying to see the shades in person if you can, especially if you've got a local store (be it Sephora or another retailer) willing to give you tester access or samples. I don't trust NARS's promo photos. 😄
@WinglessOne I was surprised to see that the large bottle is only $3 more for twice the size of the small one! Believe it or not, this cleanser goes out of stock everywhere; I've had trouble finding it for months. We have a lot of skin issues over here, and that was recommended for folliculitis, etc. It's used as a shower gel over here. The dermatologist also recommended using dandruff shampoo on spots to help them clear up. Haven't tried that yet.
All I know is, now I have points to use for an Hourglass stick blush, a MAC Love Me Liquid Lip Color, and a Fresh shower gel. 🙂
