Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

@donnainca in the past the points used to post really quickly, but my most recent orders the past few months now take a couple days after the shipping emails.
for my order placed yesterday, it's getting shipped in multiple shipments. i see both tracking numbers in my order history but only got one of the shipping emails and no points posted yet lol
Thanks @phantompenguinx ! Yes, I hope that I get the emails soon. It's nice to know that others are encountering the same issue. 🙂
@donnainca Sometimes it happens right away for me as the orders are shipped, sometimes it's taken a couple of days afterwards. Keep your eye on it, but don't worry yet.
@donnainca I think I've amassed about 20 lbs of samples. I need to start giving stuff away. Hopefully the hospital accepts donations of mini size toiletries again this year. It's just a hard sell since a lot of the samples are weird like gimme more brow samples or the benefit pore primers.
@itscarin That's great. I've been donating to the Women's Shelter nearby. 🙂
@itscarin It's frustrating how hard it is to give stuff away, I'm constantly searching for places that will take donations.
@StTropezBarbie i looveeee bonbon, not sure if you've smelled it's sibling flowerbomb?? but it's a sweeter version of that, i want to say it's kinda similar to gucci guilty
@phantompenguinx I was gifted flowerbomb once and loved it. I do love scents on the sweeter side. Thx for the info!
I’d love to be able to tell you @StTropezBarbie but it’s going to be a gift. It might not go down well if I open it for a sniff.
Pfffft. I do not like the new $65, it's too much like "real money" and I can't bring myself to spend it. Oh, well, at least hubby will be happy about the bank account.
@bratknits I'm not worried about the buy in so much as a lot of the GWP have been just so-so for me. I wonder if that's why Ulta didn't do so well this past quarter.
Did they do well in the 1st qtr? That 21 days of beauty was awesome! 🙂 @itscarin
They missed their earnings for last quarter and the stock dropped almost 30% two weeks ago.
@Buootiful I don't follow makeup/business news too much so I can't tell you exact numbers or quarters, but I'll say if I'm recalling correctly I believe Ulta stocks have been kicking 4ss for the past year or two because of all their growth. (I'm not a business person so don't skewer me if I'm using the wrong terminology or citing the wrong stats!) This past quarter they did really bad and I saw the articles pop up on my phone and in beauty message boards. Everyone's talking about it.
My guess is that Ulta's been luring us all in with the sweet sweet rewards programs, but as they establish themselves in the retail market, they're going to start pulling back. They have started taking things away -- the diamond gifts used to be free with any purchase and now require a $25 min purchase. They used to allow points to be earned when redeeming points and that was squashed a few months ago. The GWP have been declining.
Seriously, I remember in 2015 I picked up a full-sized Marc Jacobs Daisy dream lotion with a $40 purchase. That was sweet! Now we're seeing more GWP with foils. Also, their GWPs, when they're good, are selling out quicker.
My sense is that Ulta invested a ton of money on attracting new customers, and now that budget is being dialed back so they can start seeing some ROI. Just anecdotally, it seems to me like people are becoming less enthused about shopping at Ulta since we're all remembering the halcyon days when samples were full-sized and had lower buyins!
