Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

No, you get 5x on the ABH and 5x on the Estee Lauder. They don't stack or spread to other items in your order.
But, I see you have 100 points when you spend $30, which is a nice little bonus. Say you spend $30 on ABH, you'd get 5x on that plus 100 extra points (total 250 points...roughly equivalent to $15 back if you save up 2000 points). Plan transactions around $30 if at all possible 🙂
hahaha! 10x is too good to be true! Time to wait for more intresting deal to come 😁
Hello Ulta Shoppers! I'm heading to Texas in the end of January and am going to head to an Ulta to pick up a few products. I had a few questions from a Canadian shopper.
1. You guys always seem to get the best deals and I was wondering if you have any recommendations for how to get discounts, especially on Tarte, ABH and Hourglass. The points aren't really worth it for me but 20% and 40% off would be a great score!
2. I signed up online, is there a new user discount code, I can't seem to find one?
3. Any non-Sephora brands available at Ulta I should try?
4. Can you shop online and ship to store with Ulta?
Thanks!!
for #3 I love the brand Skyn Iceland, those depuff eye gels are always a treat for me 🙂 I've also found a big benefit of buying at ulta is the fact that they carry drugstore brands. So if there are certain products that you usually get at cvs or walgreens or something, you can divert your purchases to ulta (where you can use those generic coupons on those items + manufacturer coupons), plus rack up the points for more prestige products later on
Hold the phone....you can use manufacturers coupons at Ulta?
yeah! it's in store only though, and I believe it's max 1 manufacturer coupon and 1 ulta coupon. I haven't done it in a while, but off the top of my head, in the past I had successfully used coupons on biore and maybelline 🙂
The other girls covered the majority of what you need to know, but there is a new member discount code only if you sign up through a referral link. The coupon is $10 off $30, and that works on prestige items (higher end products like ABH, Clinique, Nars, etc.). If you have another email address you'd like to sign up with you can always do that to get the coupon 🙂 That's what I recommend to my friends who aren't already signed up for ULTA. Who doesn't want a good coupon to use on splurge worthy products 😉
For me the biggest brand that Ulta carries that Sephora does not is Dermalogica. Those discount coupons and point bonuses rack up for me since most of their items are so pricey. Some stores have Morphe, but I don't think it's as much as you can get online.
Thanks @mwg1!! Also, fyi, Sephora now carries Dermalogica, at least in Canada.
Pretty much what @RGbrown said, but I'll add that you should temper your expectations a little bit -- there's never been a 40% discount on items at Ulta. Ulta does the 20% off coupon, and they do a lot of one day sales, like a specific item each day that goes on sale, which can be stacked with the 20% coupon. I think the cost-savings benefit of shopping at ulta comes from being able to stack offers, for example, a buy one get one free offer with a 20% off coupon, or a "hot deal" or "beauty steal" with the 20% coupon -- or even the 20% coupon with a points multiplier. There isn't too much that ulta carries that Sephora doesn't, but they do have a few items, like some Smashbox liquid lipsticks and the tarte shape tape to name a few. Happy shopping!
1. 20% prestige coupons come out a few times a year, but other than that, the best Ulta deals really come from the online GWP's, points multipliers, and banking those points to use during a 20% q! So sad that you can't really partake in that in Canada 😞
Last year we got a 20%, one day only, on the last Sat in Jan...perhaps it'll happen again (and hopefully that corresponds with your dates in TX!). The next one came mid-Feb.
For non-prestige brands, there's usually a generic $3.50 off $15 coupon, but for Tarte/ABH/Hourglass etc you'll need a prestige coupon.
2. Nope, whatever the non-prestige coupon of the week happens to be
3. I don't even know where to start here...it doesn't help that I don't shop Sephora much and don't realize what doesn't overlap lol. I can recommend Ulta brand itself...all of the makeup I've tried has been top notch.
4. I don't believe so; I don't recall seeing a ship to store option.
Enjoy your trip!!
Thanks a lot for the detailed response @RGbrown! I'm definitely going to keep a look out for the 20% off coupon and check out the Ulta brand items! I am in Austin for Valentines day and hoping there is a discount then. I can ship items to my brothers place but my family doesn't understand my skincare and makeup obsession!
@Aaliaa So, as someone very familiar with the Ulta stores in the city you're about to visit, I wouldn't recommend going into the store expecting to find the exact items you want in stock (even if the website thinks those items are in stock at said store). The stores are often a little unorganized with many items out of stock. With that said, it's fun to go hunting for treasures in Ulta stores with no expectations!
Thankss @txcatx! I'm in SA for a majority of my trip but would have found an excuse to find an Ulta for a really good deal! Makeup emergency and all!!
Well in that case, the next 20% came out the Friday after Valentine's, so hopefully you'll be around through that weekend!
Thankss!!
I knew at some point in life those high school math classes would be important... at least the algebra has come in handy for understanding the Ulta points and multiplier systems.
If you ordered during the double 5X points for ABH and your points are not correct contact customer service. I was missing the second set of 5X points for my ABH item so I contacted them and they gave me the points - actually I thought I should get 84pts but they said I was supposed to get 124pts so no complaint there👍🏻👍🏻 ULTA’s customer service is awesome.
