Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up Volume Six

Did anyone else receive a *10X points* on eyeshadow palettes offer for today? Between that and the 20% off everything coupon, I don't know what to do with myself!

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up Volume Six

@tastelikewater  I received the offer.  This is so crazy, but because I had $50 worth of reward points already, after purchasing some palettes with the multiplier and 20% off coupon, I am getting 100% of that value back in rewards dollars!

Math isn't my strong point though so don't quote me. 🙂

Re: Deals Too Good to Pass Up Volume Six

@Ispend2much6 Did someone say math — ulta math?!

assuming the palette was normally priced at $50, it’d be $40 with the 20% off. Assuming you’re diamond, it’d be 10.5x * $40 or 420 points. 420/2000 = .21 or $26.25 in points If redeemed in increments of $125. $26.25 is 65% of the $40  you spent.

another way to look at it is: you’d have to spend apx $190 to get to get a $125 reward. $190 + $125 = $315. Of the $315 worth of product you got $125 free so 125/315= 40% — that’s a 40% discount on your the value of the items you received.

of course, you used a coupon, so the value of your merchandise is $237.5. $237.5 - $190 = $47.5. $190 + $47.5 + 125 = $362.5. 190/362.5 = 52% discount on your total value of items received.

and if you got your 10.5x with 20% off and then redeemed your $125 reward with another 20% you’ll get $156.25 worth of merch. So that would be $190 spent + $47.5 value because of 20% coupon + $156.25 value of 2000 points with 20% off.   That would mean $393.75 worth of product and only $190 paid. That’s a 52% discount. You spent $190 and received $203.75 value back.

but that’s a lot of best case scenarios. I prefer to think of it as a big picture: what I spend In total to reach 2000 points vs what I received back in value, including my spend and the $125 reward.

some ppl like to think of it as what was spent vs what they received back in value in points.

even if you spend $40 and get $26.25 back in value as part of the $125 reward, I would still not call it 26.25/40; instead it’s 26.25/66.25 because I believe it’s more accurate to capture the total value of products received, combining the free stuff with the out of pocket purchase and dividing that by the free stuff to see how discounted your total value of product received.

I tallied up all the money spent this year and all the points earned and figured I had a 29% discount on all the things I bought throughout the year this year. 😁
