Beauty Insider challenge

I’ve completed the Beauty insider challenge and just wanted to share some challenges that I ran into in hopes that you can avoid making the same mistake. In the 500 Point beauty challenge section that gives you the option to purchase a skincare product, Haircare products, and makeup product. I purchased one order that include makeup, Haircare, skincare product, and a sample but I did not get credit for my Haircare product because I was only allowed a certain amount of points per order. I was informed I had to make another order for a Haircare product then I would get my 100 points plus another 100 for completing all task. I recommend separating your orders so you don’t waste your money on a product that will not give you points. Don’t forget value and gifts sets are not eligible for points. Hope this helps someone !!

I purchased the makeup and skincare separately but messed up and ordered the amika holiday dry shampoo set thinking I would get the points which I didn't so I need to re do the haircare one

@KateGreen  I suggest reaching out to customer service. I ordered hair products while the Challenge link was down for a little while, and didn't get my points. The customer service rep in the chat fixed it for me. Just make sure you have your order number handy. 😃

@julliette88  I completed the same challenge (the “passport” challenge). First I took the quiz and was quickly credited 100 points. A day or two later, I placed an order containing one product from all 3 categories (makeup, skincare, and hair), plus a promo GWP and the 2 free samples we get with each online order. On my challenge page, all 3 remaining tasks were in pending mode until today and I received 300 challenge points for them. That + the 100 bonus points = I’ve been credited the full 500 points for the challenge. 

 

I wonder why you weren’t also able to get the 300 challenge points you should’ve for your order… that’s odd. Now I’m gonna pick through the challenge T&C; I’d just skimmed ‘em before, looking for any red flags or key takeaways. I don’t recall seeing anything about a limit on the number of points earned per order/purchase. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a limit stated in any of Sephora’s T&Cs. 

 

I’m glad you were able to place another order to get all your challenge points! If there’s some kind of limitation though, Sephora should specify that in terms if they don’t already. Thanks for the heads-up on this!

@WinglessOne . I attached a picture of our conversation in hopes it explains it better. She brought up avoidance of doubt. It’s my understanding I was only allowed a maximum of 500 points per order and I completed task from two different challenges which complicated things I guess?? I did receive credit of  500 points in one order but I was informed I can not earned more then 500 in one order. Unfortunately that left out my hair product purchase and the extra 100 for completing all task in that challenge. Thanks for your feedback. I had a difficult time understanding the rules.

@julliette88  Ah, were you enrolled in both the current challenges at the same time? Maybe one of your “passport” challenge items could also qualify for the other challenge. That’s my interpretation of the T&C info the CS rep quoted. (I’m not a lawyer, I just worked closely with a bunch of ‘em to create certain policies and standards for my ex-employer.) When I placed my order for the passport challenge, I wasn’t also enrolled in the other challenge, so there was no chance of a “which challenge is this item for” conflict. 

 

Maybe that’s another tip for folks: either enroll in just one challenge at a time, or make sure you split purchases into 2 or more orders if any items might qualify for 2 (or more) challenges you’re simultaneously enrolled in. In other words, make sure your entire cart qualifies for just one challenge. 

 

Looking again at the other challenge (“ready, set, Sephora”), I see only 2 possible challenge conflicts you could’ve had: 

 

  1. You split your order into half shipment and half BOPIS (maybe the haircare item was BOPIS?), or your entire order was BOPIS. 
  2. You picked some free samples. That’s a task for the “ready, set, Sephora” challenge. 

 

I’m still not sure there’s really a limit on how many points you can earn. It’s more about earning points for just one challenge per order/purchase. 

 

Thanks again for bringing this up! It’s been interesting to pick at the T&C and think more about possible pitfalls. 🙂 You’ve helped other folks by starting this thread.

@WinglessOne Exactly! I believe I complicated things by being enrolled in both challenges and submitting task for both. I did pick samples along with purchasing my skincare, makeup, and haircare. That is a good tip worth mentioning!!. Thank you for including that in your reply.

Its impressive you have experience working with lawyers creating policies. I would love to understand everything when I read through lengthy legally binding documents.

Thanks, @julliette88 . I just bought skincare on its own, so that was all right. But I noticed that my green checkmark didn't show up right away, whereas the one for doing the survey did. I suspect it doesn't show up till it's past the time when you can cancel your order, as it's there today, along with the one for getting a sample with my order. Just wanted to let people know that, in case they thought they weren't getting their checkmark at all.

@Westcoasty I agree. Some of my  check marks pended for awhile. I was informed that  points for the challenge wouldn’t be applied until your item actually ships out.
