I know there are a few of us on BT that are fragrance addicts, so I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated place where we can share our thoughts.
This is not to take away from the lovely What Are You Wearing Today, Fragrance Edition thread, but more a place to post longer reviews, chat about new brands or releases, and just shoot the breeze on anything good and smelly 🙂
For me, I recently acquired 2 new decants that I've been anxiously awaiting. Ever since Lachaton mentioned that MMM was releasing a new scent called By The Fireplace I've been itching to get my hands on it. My decant arrived yesterday, so I'm looking forward to marinating in it this weekend. Secondly, I recently picked up a tiny sample of Shiseido Nombre Noir. Supposedly it is one of the most expensive failures in perfume history - made by Serge Lutens for Shiseido back in the 80s. Of course, with a backstory like that, I was dying to get a sniff 😄
What's new on your scent radar? Do tell!
Basenotes has an active buy/sell/swap decants group but if I recall correctly, you need to post over 100 posts to participate. You can also find decants on eBay and Basenotes members do discuss their favourite vendors.
I've never used Surrender to Chance but they also sell decants and I've heard good things about them.
Good luck @AnneMCC!
Also from NST:
Two limited edition scents from Kilian:
Love The Way You Taste (above left) ~ "Love the way you Taste recreates a sparkling and sophisticated Mojito cocktail in a refreshing fragrance. It hits with head notes of lemon and peppermint for an invigorating first impression. Once the lips touch the cocktail glass, the elixir reveals heart notes of green leaves and magnolia flower. It remains on the skin with an effervescent sparkle, long-lasting accords of a summertime tonic of sparkling water and vetiver."
Love The Way You Feel (above right) ~ "LOVE THE WAY YOU FEEL celebrates the tactile pleasures of beachside bodies. A reformulation of the iconic Monoï Oil in a new floral blend. A warming and exotic scent instantly suggesting skin-on-skin contact and a gorgeously glowing tan. Gentle head notes of bergamot and neroli are the perfect entry into the sweet and sensual. The fragrance trail melts into ylang-ylang and tiare flower at its exotic heart enhanced by both comforting and suggestive coconut and vanilla accords."
I like the sound of Love the way you taste @pocketvenus 😉
Me too @blackkitty2014! Sounds like a great summer scent
From NST Perfume:
Jo Malone will launch Jasmine Sambac & Marigold, a new fragrance in the Cologne Intense Collection. The brand has also reissued Plum Blossom, Nashi Blossom and Sakura Cherry Blossom as the limited edition "Blossom Girls" collection.
Serene fields of jasmine sambac. The most precious jasmine of all. Pure white buds plucked at dawn. Fresh with dew. Coveted gems of the colourful Indian flower market. Glowing against vibrant marigold and exotic ylang ylang. A beautiful contrast of garlands. Entwined with rich benzoin resin. Enveloped by the warmth of vanilla and amber.
I'll be darn!!! It is available at Blue Mercury @pocketvenus
Jasmine Sambac & Marigold sounds right down my alley. For the blossom collection, i miss it every year because i cant never make up my mind which one to get or whether i should get it 🙂
Hi Lovelies!! I am soo beyond excited to tell you about this new launch @sephora! This is the newest addition of REPLICA from Maison Margiela! This scent is inspired by Woodstock,1969. Being that both of my parents are hippies (once a hippie always a hippie) I instantly connected to this unisex fragrance. Its in the Warm and Spicy Fragrance family and the scent type is Woody Spices. Key notes include, Cannabis Accord, Patchouli Essence and Leather Accord. I love wearing this because its not overwhelming but rather smooth and sophisticated. This is going to be a year round love affair for me for sure! I hope you guys try it and love it!
One of the reviews on Sephora says something to the effect of, "Smells like straight up weed." I laughed at that. I checked my local Sephora about a month ago when I first heard about it, and they didn't have it in store. I'll be back next weekend to check. Sounds groovy.
Does the bottle actually read patchouli and "fresh bud"? For the record, when I tried this, there was definitely a lot of patchouli but not a whiff of weed.
@pocketvenusI think its a soft cannabis accord. I adore the tie back to Woodstock and am happy that it smells the way that it does. Replica always does a stellar job.
@ElizaPRO My mom is a hippie. I think she might like that.
@SamtianI know! I want to give her mine but I don't think I can part with it! I will be getting one for her for sure!!<3

An interesting article from the NYT about the new crop of no-scent scents (including Byredo's Elevator Music)
@Mochapj, thank you for the article! I do think it's a definite trend. I wear Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt at work - it still has a scent, it's just not heavy like I enjoy my Tom Ford & Chanel perfume for weekends and evenings.
@pocketvenus, I do agree with you. Smelling pretty makes my day happier! I still throw on my Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot even at work for special meetings. It's definitely purfumy but not overpoweringly floral.
That's a good point, @curlychiquita - especially these days when more people have sensitivities to scented products. I also wear softer scents in office environments, concerts, restaurants and so on. I'll spray in the air and walk into the mist or dab a very small amount directly onto my skin if I know I'm going to be in close proximity to people.
It's worth noting though that the "non-perfume" aromachemicals mentioned in the article like ISO-E Super can still irritate some, even though they do not have a strong scent!
I guess it's the perfume equivalent of a no makeup makeup look which I also don't do lol @laurakristie
