Fragrance Junkie Central

I know there are a few of us on BT that are fragrance addicts, so I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated place where we can share our thoughts.

This is not to take away from the lovely What Are You Wearing Today, Fragrance Edition thread, but more a place to post longer reviews, chat about new brands or releases, and just shoot the breeze on anything good and smelly Smiley Happy

For me, I recently acquired 2 new decants that I've been anxiously awaiting.  Ever since Lachaton mentioned that MMM was releasing a new scent called By The Fireplace I've been itching to get my hands on it.  My decant arrived yesterday, so I'm looking forward to marinating in it this weekend.  Secondly, I recently picked up a tiny sample of Shiseido Nombre Noir.  Supposedly it is one of the most expensive failures in perfume history - made by Serge Lutens for Shiseido back in the 80s.  Of course, with a backstory like that, I was dying to get a sniff Smiley Very Happy

What's new on your scent radar?  Do tell!

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Has anyone tried out the new Alaia signature scent? I am very curious about this one (the bottle is really pretty) but havent' had a chance to try this out yet.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I got a sample with my saks order and I was curious about it, too.  However, I found it overly perfumy and overbearing.  Like, I couldn't detect any specific notes - it just seemed like a blast of perfume.  I can't remember how it dried down, I wrote it somewhere on BT, but I'm not sure where.  Anyway, I was not a fan of this one!

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

thanks for your assessment! hopefully i can sample this one day. i know scents will smell different on everyone. sorry to hear that you did not like this one.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I received a sample in my Saks order but I haven't tried it yet. I'll give it a try soon and report back!

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

please do! Smiley Happy

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Completely forgot to report back! My husband loved this scent on me. He kept saying how nice I smelled, all day long! I won't be buying it though. I'm not a huge fan of florals, although this was one of the nicest floral I have found. Not strong or grandma like, much younger. It has a bit of creamy musk that makes it a very subdued. I get a bit of rose, maybe a bit of violet. I like it, but don't love it.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but does anyone wear the Juliette Has a Gun perfumes? I've been wanting to try them but obviously didn't want to spend a lot on something that I hadn't actually smelled yet. So this morning I saw that they have a little sampler kit for $15, just wondering if anyone has any experience with them before I buy it.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I got a sampler from them directly last year.  They are nice perfumes, but I only like a couple.

A lot of them are rose heavy, so if you are a rose lover, they would probably be enjoyable.

If you get the kit from them direct, the cost of it is redeemable towards a FS bottle from them, but I think it was about $25, so the Sephora one is cheaper.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Actually, I detest rose - it's tied with lavender for my least favorite scent Smiley Happy. Thanks so much for the information - you saved me $15!

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Due to a lot of talk of Jo Malone fragrances on some threads, I was curious. So, I got the chance to try some via samples with purchase. One of them was Peony & Blush Suede, I was in love lol. Ordered the smaller bottle on the direct website and have worn it a couple of times. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long on me Smiley Sad  Anybody have ideas on how to stretch out the scent????

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

This is JM's reputation.  Not very long lasting. I also find that 'layering' doesn't work on some scents.  It is cologne. Either you are going to last......or not!

If you stick to the smaller bottles they are not too expensive if you really love a scent.

I am a JM fan, but it is what it is!!!! Lol!

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I second the lotion recommendation. But I'm going to pose the same question I just posed in the "What Fragrance are you wearing today thread" - are you sure? Sometimes certain fragrances mix so well with your body chemistry, but everyone else still can.

I'm not familiar with Jo Malone fragrances (I've only gotten a couple of samples, and wasn't a fan)...so I don't know much about them. If they are EDT, then they really could just be very light...

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

This is why I always ask opinions from a second nose :-)

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

Ah ha! it is in such small writing but it says cologne on my mini set bottles

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

If they make a scented lotion, layering might help to extend the scent.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I would like the matching cream, but it cost more than the perfume Smiley Tongue   When I can spurge for it I will Smiley Happy

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

That is most likely the best option. I wonder If they'l have a holiday mini lotion gift set to match my mini cologne set? Smiley Happy

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

A lotion set would be awesome! Smiley Happy

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

There is a scented cream of Peony & Blush Suede (which I quite like).

Another trick - use an unscented cream (or lotion or oil) before applying the perfume. It should last better on well-moisturized skin that isn't dry.

Or you can try spraying it on your clothes. Won't smell quite the same as it would on your skin, but I find it can linger a bit longer that way.

In general, I'd say JM scents are not as long-lasting as others. So to an extent, I think it will just come with the territory.

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I second the trick of using unscented cream or lotion. This is part of my daily routine and it seems to prolong the scents for quite some time. (I notice my scents not lasting as long if I forget to put on lotion.)

Re: Fragrance Junkie Central

I spray it on my clothes and wrists, neck.........I tried the unscented cream trick, but thanks for the oil suggestion. Going to try that next Smiley Happy
