Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Due to some technical glitches with the original Show Me Your Nails Thread, I am starting a new thread with @vegchililover78's blessing (She says "hello," by the way!).

Please share your nail looks, nail art and manicures!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Right?  @Mellmars1185 wouldn't that be fantastic. 😉

Can I ask, how do you keep your nails so long and healthy? Do you have any nail tips? My short nails recently started breaking, they are extra short atm 😱

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Mine were breaking before the shellac, @CynthieLu . We shall see how they hold up once it is removed. For myself, I find that filing the shape of my nail with a rounded edge helps my nails from chippng as much. I also take hair and nail vitamins. It does not completely stop my nails from breaking but i think they grew out quite a bit within a week.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Ahhh I think I need this start taking those vitamins @Mellmars1185 I chip alot during the winter, I was surprised to see my nails suffering so much this early in the cool season. That's a good tip, thank you! 🙏🩷

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@CynthieLu Mine chip a lot too in the winter! Especially if I don't wear gloves when doing anything outside. I hope it helps!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Oooo, I love your mani, @Mellmars1185 ! 🤩  I've only heard of shellac in terms of woodworking.  I'll have to look into what that is.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@Titian06 Thank you! Ohh yes my husband said the same thing about shellac! I think another name for it is gel polish. It needs to be cured with a uv light to dry and set. I am not sure if long term the uv light is good for the hands. If I do it again, I will have to remind myself to put SPF on my hands!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Ooouh, they’ve held up really well @Mellmars1185! Love this mani ❣️ The brown is on point for fall and I love the accent nails. 💅🏼 How often do you get shellac on your nails?

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Thank you!! Fall is my favourite season so I was excited to do something fitting.

I do not do shellac often. Before this mani, I did it a couple times in June. Before that it was about 10 years ago! I only do it for special occasions as a treat 😊

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Yes to fall @Mellmars1185! It's so interesting the things/looks we gravitate towards, both presently and what comes back again for us. I was reflecting on and looking back at some of my nail looks over the last few years and seeing which themes or looks I did more frequently. Some were influenced by the trends at the time, what other BIC'ers were doing / inspriring, and some just based on what I was personally interested in trying. So interesting.

9.27.2024 Nails (Kiss imPress press-ons).jpg

I had plans for a SEPHORiA mani, but unfortunately, those went out the door as I was literally packing up until the last minute 😬 and I was pretty rough on my nails the week leading up to the event. 😞. Not a problem. A mini shopping trip with a few of the other ambassadors involved an Ulta and this set of Kiss imPress press-on nails. I've only started dabbling into press-on nails but so far this brand, and particularly their short nails, are the ones I prefer. These came with nail stickers attached to the inside of the press-on nails.

My nails were all different lengths; the press-ons for the thumb and index fingernails were juuuuust barely longer than my real nails. I have been incorporating press-ons periodically into my routine, often when my nails are not doing so great; it helps me to keep from picking at them (thanks so much @caitbird for inspiring this approach).

In hindsight, I could have been more diligent with placement of the index fingernail on this hand. I literally finished applying these about 5 minutes before we planned to meet downstairs to head to Day 2's sessions. Rushing this wasn't a great idea as I kept getting my hair caught in between the press-ons and my natural nails when I ran my fingers through my hair, and even as I was taking out my hair clip. (yes, @ather, I 100% agree with you that this is definitely a 'con' to press-ons 😐, but I'm not sure I'm ready quite yet to try using glue). I only had these on for a day, but they were easy to remove and I can use them again another day.

Tagging @Mellmars1185, did you take a pic of your mani for SEPHORiA? Hoping you did and are up for uploading a new post of it here. It was so pretty. 💅

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

If perfection had a picture in the dictionary it would be this mani, stunning beyond words ❤️ @itsfi

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi  Bummer they were catching in your hair! But they look awesome on you. And double points that you can reuse them again! The French nails are beautiful! 😍

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@ather, I wonder if perhaps my hasty application was a factor in my hair getting caught in these press-ons. I’ve worn a couple of pairs from this brand and didn’t have a problem with those. Hmmm … more research needed. 🧫 🧪 🔬

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi  I could see that being the issue but it’s hard to say! I’m sure more testing is needed! It’s good these ones seem to fit and the length is perfect 😍

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Press ons to the rescue! @itsfi They look great! I would never have guessed you put them on in a hurry. 🩷

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

So true @CynthieLu - press-ons are a good thing to have on hand. I'm less scared of them as I once was, though I'm still trying to figure 'em out and how they fit into my mani routine. Awww, thank you. I've been feeling rushed and hurried with all sorts of things these past few weeks, so the last minute press-on shouldn't have been too much of a surprise, but I have given myself a little "time out" since being back home and am working on getting back to a cadence that is more comfortable for me (and more preferred by me). 😆

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi  these are so cute! Very classic and classy with the French tips. Glad I could inspire your press-on journey, haha!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I love how much inspiration is to be had on BIC @caitbird. Your idea for using press-ons was a great one and so fruitful too. I know it's helped me with my own nails. Thank you, thank you!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi I loved your SEPHORiA nails! They kept catching my eye. I need to try these soon. I will keep an eye out for this brand!

No, I didn't take a pic of my nails when I first got them done...but I should while they are still on! Thanks for the reminder! More to come above!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Awww, thanks @Mellmars1185! I was bummed I wasn’t able to do a Sephoria mani but this turned out fine. I’m working on paring down my nail polish collection; well, I’ve been working on it for years now 😝 ideally I’ll have a mix of go to polishes, designer and indie brands, and some press-ons. I haven’t tried shellac before but I hear people really enjoy them, and dip too. So many options.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi I hear you on trying to reduce the collection. I need to do the same. If I didn't have so many polishes, I would probably do shellac more. I probably won't redo it when it grows out just because I need to use what I have. I also don't like using nail polish remover on my toenails when wearing shellac because it ruins it.
