Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Due to some technical glitches with the original Show Me Your Nails Thread, I am starting a new thread with @vegchililover78's blessing (She says "hello," by the way!).

Please share your nail looks, nail art and manicures!

...And don't forget to check out @Beadshopgirl's Nail Stamping Thread for stamping inspiration! ❤️

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi  Beautiful orange mani! 🧡 The ombré is fiery perfection. And I like how your pinky turned out, even if it did get glompy on you. The end result is lovely.

Waiting for each layer to dry can sometimes be kinda maddening, so I often use that time to clean polish off my nail folds (I do that after each coat rather than wait til end of mani), watch YouTube videos, play games, read news articles, or even tweak my in-progress mani plans. After painting a coat on the last of 10 nails, I start my 10-15 minute wait clock—so the first nail I painted actually ends up with 20 or so minutes of drying time (it takes me about 10 or more minutes to apply one coat of polish on all 10 nails, depending on what effects/patterns/etc. I'm doing to each nail). Oh, and when I layer up a nail with 2 or more polishes, I usually aim for thin layers unless one layer is a magnetic polish; I like to do those in thicker layers for better magnet pulls. Those are a few ways I trick myself into being more patient—or how I magically speed up time, depending on how I wanna look at it. 😂

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Thank you @WinglessOne! Thin layers is definitely the way to go and being patient while waiting for each to dry. Those are great ways to pass the time and help yourself be more patient. I like the idea of cleaning off polish between layers instead of all at once at the end.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Beautiful orange nails 🍊. What brand is PPU? I am loving the name sweet and sour lacquer love that chicken sandwich. What a name!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Thank you @Mellmars1185! The name is fantastic - love it! I've picked up some pretty polishes over the years through PPU, and was introduced to it (and Hella Handmade Creations - HHC - another similar nail polish marketplace set up) by the ever fabulous @RGbrown

PPU opens its store for pre-order at 11AM Eastern on the first Friday of every month, and closes at 11:59 PM Eastern the first Monday of every month. I saw that they ship to Canada. You can add polishes to your wishlist, but I can't remember when that starts. Hoping RGbrown or someone else here can chime in on that one.

HHC ships internationally as well, I believe. Their online store generally opens for pre-orders mid-month (14th or 15th?) at 12:01 AM Eastern and closes on the 21st at 11:59 PM Hawaii Time (I thought it was Eastern but I guess there's even more time to place orders).

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Thanks for the helpful info. I checked out the site and I was a little confused. Maybe that is because the pre-order was closed. Or I am easily confused 😆

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I’ll join you in the easily confused boat any day @Mellmars1185 😂 PPU’s monthly lot for June has closed. Here’s info for July -

  • July 2 - 5: Preview and wishlist polishes
  • July 6: You can preload your shopping cart 🛒
  • July 7: First day to preorder / purchase
  • July 10: Last day to preorder / purchase
  • July 24 - August 4: Shipping of July preorders

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Thank you 🙏 *marking calendar*

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@Mellmars1185

PPU stands for PolishPickUp; it's a once a month event with one polish each from lots of indie brands. Sweet and Sour Lacquer is the brand name and Love That Chicken Sandwich is the polish name, from the May 2021 event (so sadly, it's long gone!)

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown Thank you! I am going to check it out.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

These polishes are 🔥 @itsfi! Like literally it reminds me of a summertime campfire.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Yes - here for orange in the summer too, not only Fall!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Awww, thank you @JoSometimes! That’s such a great compliment. These were great polishes to work with!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Oooh, total Summer vibes!  That looks fab.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

Thank you @CookieGirl1! These were a great bunch of orange shades. Love the variety in color and finishes, and really like how the ombré turned out.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi

Gorgeous! 😍😍 Loving your orange combos here, so many fiery shades! 🧡❤️

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I’ve become more and more enamored of orange polishes since joining this thread @RGbrown. 🧡 I blame all of you. 😆

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I L-U-V this mani, @itsfi !!! 🧡🧡🧡  These colors are all so great!  Your ombre turned out wonderfully.  I love that you tried an experiment.  It looks beautiful.  The one thing I dislike most about nail polish is waiting for each coat to dry! 😂  I think we all feel that way.  How do you like using the sponge tool?  Do you replace the spong each time or is there a way to clean it?

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@Titian06 @itsfi

Sponge...tool? Is this different from just a wedge shaped makeup sponge? I'm curious!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown - @itsfi answered your question better than I could!  I saw a tool like this on Maniology, but the description didn't indicate what you could use it for. 🤔  I was thrilled to find someone who knew! 🙂

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown @Titian06, not sure what the proper name is ombre nail sponges? Here's what it looks like. I picked up just the tool but liked it enough that I went back to pick up this set.

RGBrown, from what I've gathered here and on YT, ombre nails can be done with -

- wedge shaped makeup sponge

- these ombre nail sponge tool

- stamping plates

- special nail art brush for ombre / gradient nails

I picked up a brush similar to this, not as fancy. I'm sure these can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply as well. It was just easier to find one online on amazon.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@itsfi Interesting… I’ve never seen that before. All the tutorials I’ve watched for ombré and gradient nails have just used disposable makeup sponges. How do you like it? Do you have to toss the head when you’re done a set or are you able to clean them up for another use with some polish remover?
