LOVE!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

First time wearing "Queen Frostine" from Wildflower Lacquer and it's so hard to capture all of the colors of the individual flakies!

Oh wow @CookieGirl1! The flakies and shift on this posh create such a beautiful effect. So pretty! 🤩

I am not ready for fall AT ALL, but time keeps on slippin' into the future, and fall collections are just around the corner, eek! Here's a peek at a few I've come across!

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown, I love the fall but this seems a smidge early for me. 😂  Could be because, except for the brief heatwave, summer weather doesn’t usually find its way here until late September / early October. That said, I’ve made note of a few polishes on these collections. Gotta be prepared, right?! Lol.

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown  Heh, I'm always ready for fall—it's my favorite season—but a lot of fall collections annoy me with their muted "earthy" shades. Don't get me wrong, I love earthy shades. But beauty brands often treat fall like a negative thing: end-of-summer, no more bright cheery fun times, something dreadful (winter*) is around the corner, etc. Autumn is fun! And not just because of Halloween. I wish more brands would at least feature shimmery/metallic/sparkly jewel tones in their fall collections.

All of that is why I'm drawn to Essie's fall collection. OPI's is a nice take on the typical "down-to-earth" fall palette. And c'mon, any Halloween themed collection's bound to be fun—though CG's isn't very unique for Halloween.

I'm probably super biased about all this because I don't do seasonal colors for makeup, clothing, etc. "All of the colors, all of the time" is still my perspective. Not saying no one else should do seasonal colors, I mean I'm not the cosmetic color police. 😂 I'd just like to see more interesting and fun options in more fall collections of cosmetics. I love coffee (cut me and I'll probably bleed coffee) but I'm not feeling CG's coffee-themed fall collection, mostly because they chose fall to release it. Why not release it any other time of year? Am I the only person who guzzles coffee in spring? C'mon man.

*As a winter baby (born on the solstice), I don't hate winter. I realize some folks with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) suffer depression during winter due to fewer daylight hours (y'all can thank the annual DST > Standard Time switch for some of that), among other things. And it usually gets oppressively cold in the midwest, especially in January where I live. But if I had to live someplace that never sees snow, I'd probably end up with SAD too. I dunno, I'm quirky. 🤷‍♀️

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@WinglessOne

It's only been the last couple of years or so that I'd even look at "fall" shades...I was never a fan of muted or dusty or earthy stuff. I've learned to enjoy some of those every now and again though, but yup, I'm eyeballing things like that orange Essie and the red, orange, yellow, and purple from OPI...I'm cool with something that might be "fall toned" but I still want some bright color to it!

I'll have to see more/better pictures, but so far the CG Halloween stuff seems a bit...boring 😢 Perhaps there's more to them than this one promo shot can show off, so I'll be eagerly waiting for other pics and some swatches. The all beige coffee set is dead to me though 😵

MT, I see at least a couple I know I'll like, and am steeling myself for my eventual decision to just buy the whole dang set. Since I won't be spending much on any of these other collections, I may as well 😂

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@RGbrown  Essie's collection reminds me of hiking through a forest while tree leaves are changing color. It screams nature-inspired fall collection to me, and I'm all for it. I'm especially glad they added a bright orange red in addition to the turquoise/aqua. I wish the maroon was metallic or pearlescent (I assume it's a cream) but fine, it's a wine shade. The ochre yellow OPI shade does pique my interest; I need to see swatches of that one and/or see it in person.

And yeah, CG's Halloween collection looks like too many others for that holiday. I see some of them are mattes, but that's not interesting enough. I'll also eagerly await more pictures and swatches. Nothing in the MT collection interests me, partly because I think I can dupe all those shades right now—eh, except that pinkish off-white cream which I'm not likely to add to my collection regardless of brand. I understand wanting MT versions of all those shades, though. 🙂

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

I agree with you @WinglessOne , that’s why I said that I am not ready for fall, because it seems like bright colors are forbidden and I love intense color. Just look at forests during fall: aren’t those colors intense and bright? And gorgeous! I love seasons, I love changes. I miss snow but I find a way to see it every year (here in Florida I won’t have any chance otherwise! 😂) Thankfully I live in the Panhandle and it gets quite cold in winter, even with occasional freeze, so I have some sort of change of season feeling although not the full four season I am used to 😕

Re: Show Me Your Nails 2.0

@Saradestin  One of the reasons I haven't moved to Florida (despite certain relatives hint-asking me to) is the one-note weather. I'd have to travel each December or January to meet my snow quota. Heck, I get upset when we don't get much snow up here—and that's happening more and more often. 😞 (Resisting the urge to climate-change rant right now.) I grew up in Michigan. I literally walked to school through knee- to waist-deep snow in winter. I need to see stretches of snow. I love the crunch of fresh undisturbed snow under my feet. I love the delicateness of dry powdery snow, and the luxury of wet heavy snow—that good snowman/ball/fort building snow. I don't like to be chilled to my bones, but I need to feel crisp cold air on my skin once in a while, to breathe it in and let it sweep morning fog and anxiety-driven self loathing from my mind as I exhale. I need winter.

I'm glad you do get some sort of seasonal shift where you live! I won't even tease you about "it gets quite cold" like I tease my relatives. 😉 Kinda related story:

Spoiler

A few years ago, a friend from Denver visited me during January and didn't bring a heavy winter coat. He expected the weather to be not much different from Denver's that time of year. After I took him shopping ("nope, you cannot survive this week without a real coat, let's go get you one and some gloves") and he quickly burrowed deep into his new coat, we stood on an el platform for a few minutes (under heat lamps, thank goodness) and he said "holy crap it's freezing, it must be 20 degrees out here!" I shook my head and laughed, so he guessed again: 10 degrees? 5? 0? "It's colder than zero?! Dang, just how bleeping cold is it right now?" I didn't have the heart to tell him it was -20ºF; he wasn't ready for the truth. 🤣

It's not that cold throughout January... not usually. But that's the month when we typically dive into subzero temps. Windchill off the lake doesn't help. Despite all that, folks who whine "I wish it was summer already" are often the same ones who whine "I wish it was winter already" during July's humid 100+ºF heatwave(s).

Whoever decided bright intense colors are over for everyone once fall rolls around should have their Beauty Standards Police license revoked. Same goes for whoever demands people are only allowed to wear bright colors in summer. Some people love muted colors year round and there's no reason they can't rock 'em whenever they want. (Well, aside from work related dress codes that enforce a specific clothing and cosmetics palette.) But when beauty brands try to convince me a collection of beiges, browns, greys, and creams represent fall, I can almost hear every oak, maple, etc. tree around me with their flaming orange and gold leaves shouting in unison, "are we a joke to you?!"
