Monthly Manicure Challenge 2023

Welcome to the Monthly Manicure Challenge! There’s a lot of great manicure ideas and inspiration here on BIC. I find challenges are a great way to channel that inspiration, push me out of my comfort zone, and try new styles or colours I wouldn’t normally go for. It’s a great way to grow in skill and artistry. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

All are welcome, whether you’re a pro or a novice like me, or if you have a favourite manicurist that is the only one you trust with your hands. You’re welcome to post as often or as little as you like, post late, or skip challenges completely. And feel free to post them on Show Me Your Nails 2.0 too!

November 2023 - Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

We’re deep into fall and winter is fast approaching. Let’s see some fall inspired manicures! They could be pumpkin spice themed, a leaf colour-change inspired skittle, or whatever makes you feel warm and cozy. And happy thanksgiving to all the American BIC members. Feel free to post thanksgiving-inspired mani’s too!

I’ve been a part of BIC for a while now. I’ve seen makeup, skincare, and photography challenges, which have been great for giving me inspiration, but nothing for mani’s. I love Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023 because it’s given me lots of inspiration, pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow in my skills and artistry. I’d probably be stuck doing the same looks if it weren’t for that. I know we have Show Me Your Nails 2.0 which has been a great source of inspiration. I don’t want to take away from it but rather give myself and others a way to narrow down all the great ideas from it and get outside of my comfort zone (which has been bright colours and sparkly toppers lately)

Would there be any interest in starting a challenge for mani’s? We could have a different theme every month or even twice a month so that people can wear their mani’s out without worrying about missing one. People could always revisit themes if they miss them but still want to participate. I’m happy to organize it and if people have ideas for themes, I’m happy to work them in. What do you all think? Let me know if we should go one or twice a month and any themes you might want to see.

November 2023 - Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice 

The camera on my phone was not being a team player 😞 Wondering if I accidently changed some settings; will have to look into that when I have more time. Sorry, folks; these were the best of the ones I took. 

Base Coat: Deborah Lippmann All About That Base 

Top Coat: Glisten & Glow Top Coat

Zoya Yardley (thumb) - the first photo is a more accurate depiction of the polish - it's a dark peachy champagne with a finish that is a cross between a metallic and a shimmer; 2 easy coats. 

786 Merida (index) - described as a peachy beige, but on my nails, it has a very faint peach undertone in person. This is 3 coats.

786 Dubovnik (middle) - it's the shade of the month for 786 and is described as a creamy coral / terracotta. I think the terracotta description is apt, though in person, the color is softer than many terracotta shades. 2 coats.

786 Merida topped with Zoya Bonnie (ring) - Bonnie is a sheer, warm rose gold topper; very pretty. 2 coats of Merida, topped with 1.5 coats of Bonnie.

786 Seville (pinky) - I pulled this one out of my bin by mistake. It's a golden yellow, not really pumpkin spice like. It's more on the "and everything nice" part of this month's theme. 😄 3 coats.

Seville is beautiful in person @Samtian; reminds me of a marigold yellow bordering on a mustard shade. 💛 It’s not a shade I have in my collection and is definitely one I’m happy to have picked up. I feel like you did a mani with a similar shade, or at least one from the same color family. It was lovely.

Lovely mani @itsfi! It definitely gives fall vibes. The ones on your thumb and middle finger really change with the lighting!

Thank you @Titian06; it was fun to do. I’m woefully behind - haven’t made a dent in using the gaggle of polishes I intended to use for early fall nail looks 😔 I guess I’m ahead for next year??? 😆 Will try to incorporate them later this year, though more likely next, when I may have more time.

I MIGHT be jinxing myself here but my current mani gives me fall-to-winter vibes. I have a love-hate relationship with winter weather, so I’m hoping we don’t get too much of it anytime soon.

Our winter weather is pretty low key and mild compared to the rest of the world so I can't say much about winter weather, but I have a general idea of what you mean about not wanting to get too much of it too soon @JoSometimes. Pretty color pairing; it is a great fall-to-winter mani!

Thank you @itsfi! We finally dipped into below freezing temperatures here. I need to switch to winter tires pretty soon… It seems like it’s just a bit later than normal though.

October 2023 - Trick or Treat! Halloween-Inspired Mani’s

2 coats Zoya Cathy, topped with a few stickers from Deco Beauty Nail Art Stickers - Spooky. These are easy to apply, pretty much the easiest stickers I've worked with. 💗
