recommend makeup artist to do prom makeup

are the girls that do a makeup over trained to do that? I need to get my makeup done for prom but I've had some of them do a mini makeover and they did terrible.

It really depends on the store and person, not all are certified or have makeup school training, as that's separate from Sephora. 

Call local bridal shops/photographer and ask who they recommend as a MUA. Then do research and call them from information: prices, specialty, location, what to do/bring, consultation etc. If they don't do prom, ask for a recommendation. Some full service salons/spas do makeup as well.
