Hey! I get small red spots all around my face, and I have a bumpy skin problem on my forehead. I have recently started using a salicylic acid cleanser (Murad) to dry out the pimples, a glycolic acid toner (The Ordinary) to resurface and even the texture, and finally a retinol night cream (Murad) for general acne maintenance and collagen production. I also have a day moisturiser (Kiehls) which I use to keep skin hydrated. After a couple of weeks, my skin is looking really really great. If you’re on a budget, the glycolic acid toner is very cheap, and I’m sure you can find a salicylic acid cleanser for not a lot of money too. I think these ingredients, combined with a good moisturiser, are the most important to combat acne and bad skin texture.

Make-up has a shelf life and often, you will see an expiry date. If your make-up is more than 6 months old; toss it. You may want to look at a BB cream applied with a damp beauty sponge, some concealer and a translucent setting powder. A radiant blusher can be applied to the apples of your cheeks up to your temples, a sweep of mascara and lip gloss and you should literally be good to go. I'm not sure of your age, but am thinking you are likely in your 20's or younger?

@QueenAnn1981 I'd have to second the Charlotte Tilbury! I happened to see it on a side stand in my local store and i absolutely fell in LOVE with the Marie Antoinette shade. I'm thinking of picking up the Mona Lisa shade during the sale since the other one looks and wears so well- I literally get compliments every time I wear it and it is so so smooth and easy to apply. I am over the moon with it! The sephora collection has some nice shades available (I know because I was trying to find a cheaper match for the CT lol) and Kaja also has some super beautiful, vibrant colors at a more accessible price point.  The Kaja don't perform as well but honestly who REALLY needs super stay wear and for $16 I'll take it

@emmalaffin I prefer to hit the drugstore for bronzers because it's not a major part of my routine. If you're open to that, Maybelline City Bronzer and The Balm Take Home the Bronze have both worked well for me (but watch out if you're sensitive to talc or mica).

I’ve tried them all. I had all of the same issues with the same products you are describing...sadly, there’s no such thing as the perfect foundation! I have rosacea and other acne issues...BUT the best one I’ve come across & I’ve been using for over a year straight with no issues: Tarte Amazonian Clay full coverage foundation. I use 27S light medium sand, but had to go through a trial and error on the color, so either be sure or get matched. There’s some built in SPF, which I usually have to avoid in foundation because it breaks my skin out, but luckily didn’t have that issue. I do use Huda concealer in Coconut Flakes and top it all with Laura Mercier translucent powder. It doesn’t oxidize, and lasts a fair portion of the day, though it isn’t budge proof (probably why it’s so gentle on the skin). It starts to break up after about 8 hours, but it lasts the workday so I’m good with that. It gives a very nice overall airbrushed appearance. The texture of the foundation reminds me of the old maybelline whipped foundation from the 90’s. Nice and smooth. Good luck!

What parts matter most to you? Learn that, then just apply to those areas. For instance, I will ALWAYS wear mascara to work (curled or not). It just makes me look more awake and put together. I always use a bit of brow gel (love boy brow from glossier, super easy, like a mascara wand) cuz I want I bit more definition. ALWAYS with a mattifying powder whether or not I use BB cream cuz I’m oily. And if I’m feeling it, I like to add a swipe of highlighter to my cheekbones. Quick and simple, but still look fire.

Hm okay. It seems that you have oily skin but also dehydrated skin (not ‘dry’ as in lacking oil but lacking water) like I do. I have found that oil cleansers work very well to hydrate and tame oil. I’m a big fan of Boscia Cooling cleanser (can’t remember the exact name but it’s a green bottle). I also like using Glossier’s Super trio. Pure for acne scars, Bounce for hydration, and Glow for dullness. I’m not sure how these products react to retinoids though. There’s Super Bounce that helps with fine lines around your eyes and lips. I like Rimmel’s Stay Matte in translucent as a mattifying setting powder or just to soak up oil, but I’m not sure if it settles into your lines though. I know it doesn’t feel cakey. Also, tbh, could be a diet problem? If you’re not already, switch to cleaner eating. Less greasy, processed foods. Cut back on heavy red meats and dairies. That’s what I got for skincare. Hope it helps

Glossier is my fav for lighter coverage. Their Skin Tint is super light and gives you the “dewy” look. (Wasn’t for me cuz I’m super “dewy” from grease lol). Their Cloud Paint blush and Haloscope highlighter are also favs for a little extra oomf. All of these products are also buildable if you want more coverage!

I’m all about lighter coverage. And I only recently started shopping at Sephora so most of my recs come from CVS. Chlorine dries out your skin, so get a face wash and moisturizer that hydrates. I use Garnier Moisture Bomb as lotion. For acne, I used an acne face wash and spot treatment just from Neutrogena. I recently started using Glossier’s Super Pure and Super Bounce for light acne, redness, and hydration. As for make up, I simply use NYX. Can’t Stop Won’t Stop concealer and their BB cream. For days I’m even lazier, I don’t even use BB. And instead just put on Rimmel’s Stay Matte in translucent. If you’re looking to do eyes, I use Glossier’s Boy Brow. Lancôme Hypnose Waterproof mascara for holding curl or Glossier Lash Slick for no curl days. Glossier Cloud Paint in Beam for blush and Sephora Golden Hours in the liquid or solid highlighter depending on how much time you have.

@KellyAnn0104 it’s all about practice makes perfect. So I would buy some cheap false lashes from Ardell that you can find in thedrugstore. You can apply the lashes with a tweezer or lash applicator to help guide you. Make sure you measure and cut the band if needed. Great lash glue that I like are from House of Lashes and Ardell the clear ones.  You can reuse the lashes if you clean the glue off of them. There are tons of videos on YouTube to help guide you on applying and cleaning the false lashes.

I also get up at 4 for work, I probably have to do slightly more than others because my eyelashes are clear and I have really bad bags and darkness under and around my eyes.  So liner+mascara+concealer is my absolute minimum.  The below list is what I do daily to look presentable and awake: lightly tinted SPF (because the sun comes up eventually and I always wear SPF) so I don't need foundationtiny bit of concealercream eyeshadow because they're easy and fast, I find that light shades like Charlotte Tilbury's Jean or Champagne Diamonds are great natural options that make you look awake.a little eyelinermascaracream blush I don't wear lipsticks at work but I do have an assortment of balms that I keep on hand along with a powder SPF for a mid-day SPF reapplication.
