Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

Unfortunately, my skin is allergic to everything. I have to watch what I buy when it comes to make up, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, lotion, even jewelry believe or not. To make matters worse I even have to watch for scents because of my migraines so I have to watch to make sure I don't break out and watch for scents to make sure I don't get a migraine. My question due to my extremely sensitive skin and it breaking out I have been forced to basically right now with a minimum routine and out times no make up at all. Does anyone have any suggestions as to any brands I could try that might not break me out? I will be honest I was sick for a while and concentrated on getting better but I am better know and know I fully really I am not up to speed on what brands are available and the latest technology that is available. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a nice day.

Re: Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

I recently discovered ILIA (https://www.sephora.com/ilia) when browsing Sephora online.  Their products are supposed to be very "clean," free of harsh chemicals and toxins.  I have super sensitive skin and plan on getting some of their stuff to try 🙂

Also, basically everything Clinique has been approved by a dermatologist (not an allergen specialist, I know) but this makes it more likely to be safe for sensitive skin.

I have the same thing, sounds like you have what I have, I tried Dr Jart BB cream yesterday with SPF, almost had to use my EpiPen. I studied the ingredients really good to know what I react to before I try it, it didn't look like anything would hurt me but one day no next day yes. Totally understand. You can PM me if you would like. Luckily I do have quite a bit of safe ones!! Good luck!!

Well sephora is a great choice so you can return anything...

Well sephora is a great choice so you can return anything that doesn t work. I highly recommend RMS. I have tried some products from clinique and had reactions but do wear their mascara. RMS eye polishes I can wear with no problem. For skincare I use Josie Marans cleanser and sunscreen and make my own toner from lemon juice and rosewater and use maracuja oil as moisturizer.I personally I find the shorter the ingredient list the better. If you do react do keep track of ingredients.

I would only caution on using lemon juice during the day as it makes your skin photosensitive.  I do use lemon in some of my DIY brightening masks but I've noticed that my skin is more sensitive.  If you decide to use lemon, please do your research and always wear SPF 30 or higher depending on whether you're going to be outside or the season and always re-apply accordingly.

@BelahAngel I hope you are feeling better! I have a mild allergy to something in a lot of mascaras and one brand that I have found to be very gentle is beauty without cruelty. I started purchasing their mascara and eyeliner at Whole Foods and I've had a lot of luck with them.

Re: RE: Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

Is Beauty With out Cruelty the name of the brand? I had never thought of looking at a place like whole foods. That makes since though whole foods is organic food right? Or at least I think I remember that being the majority of their market. Anyway so you have products that are 100% pure not tested on animals without any abrasive chemicals so of course it makes sense that a brand like that would help and not cause any allergic reactions. You are very smart. Thank you for the information. You thought of a brand and a cause that is both smart and essential for us to stand behind. Thank you so much for all of your help and advice I really appreciate it. Your information helped a lot and made my day. Belah Angel.

@BelahAngel yes that is the name of the brand sometimes its just listed as "bwc" on the tubes

Re: RE: Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

Okay I just wanted to make sure that was the name of the brand. Since I have been unable to wear make up for so long I am kind of out of the loop I do not know the names of the beauty brands and I am not up to date on the trends and the latest technology. I had to invest all my time into getting better and now that I am better I want to try and find a brand I want to try and find some make up I can actually wear without breaking out. That's my hope and mission.

Re: Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

Hi @BelahAngel!

I'm sorry to hear you've been sick but glad to hear you're feeling better.  Having allergies to many ingredients I can only imagine is very frustrating/stressful as many products may contain things that you'll react to.  If you know what you're allergic to I think this will be a good start as you can start to watch out for any products that contain ingredients you're allergic to.  Unfortunately many brands who claim to be for sensitive skin still use products that are known to be irritants.  My only and best suggestion is to ensure you read the ingredients of any products you consider.  Some brands that I know that tend to focus on sensitive skin and/or are known for using more natural products are:  La Roche Posay, Avene, BareMinerals, Josie Maran, Cetaphil, Eucerin, Cerave, Antonym, Origins, Herbivore, Kora.  There are many new brands out there that claim to use organic/natural ingredients but I can't emphasize enough how important it is that you read the ingredient list to ensure that you know what you're putting on your skin.

I have sensitive oily skin and the brands that I currently use or have used are: La Roche Posay, Avene, BareMinerals, Cetaphil, Eucerin, Herbivore.  That said, I have found that these brands make some products that I just wouldn't use because of the ingredients.

Sephora has categorized all the natural/organic brands in an easy link:  https://www.sephora.com/natural-makeup?icid2=natural_lp_search_botnav_1_image_us

I hope this is helpful!

Re: Forced to do mininimal due to allergic reactions to makeup

Wow, Thank you so much for letting me know about all those brands that will give me a start at least. Yeah and I agree with you it is so important to know what you are putting on your skin. Just like it is so important to know what ingredients are in food and what you are putting into your body because the two are related. How well you eat will reflect your skin, immune system, and over all health it is all connected I found out. I really appreciate you help so much it really help. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and the rest of your weekend. Belah Angel
