True Winter Make Up Recommendations

Hello!

I just found out that I am a true winter! With that said, I need recommendations for blushes and lip sticks at Sephora. Anyone have any recommendations for me?!

Re: True Winter Make Up Recommendations

Hi, @jacote !  Knowing your color season is great for clothing, but it doesn't translate very well to cosmetics.  In cosmetics, it's based on undertone:  warm (yellow/golden), pink (red), and neutral (a balance of both).  You can look up online how to figure this out or go into a Sephora store to ask for assistance.  Foundation and concealer are the two items where undertone really matter.  The colors (blush, eyeshadow, etc.) are personal preference--wear what you like!

Re: True Winter Make Up Recommendations

@jacote   Oh wow! I didn't know that was still around - it began somewhere around my first year of university, so that would be 1982 or earlier. Very cool!

So - there may be others who did the "my colours are X season" classification who are on here, and who can chime in. But typically, as you will see by checking out the descriptions of the foundation and concealer shades of various lines (you could try NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer with Medium Coverage as an example), people's skin tones are usually classified into warm (golden undertones), cool (pink undertones), or neutral, where neither predominates. Combined with that is the range from light to deep. Finding foundation and concealer that match your skin tone will allow you to create that natural-looking "blank canvas" that makes a wonderful backdrop for the colours you end up choosing.

Knowing you are a true winter will be helpful to you when choosing clothing. But the simplest solution when it comes to makeup will be to go to your nearest Sephora store, and have one of their associates find out your "ColorIQ". That will let you match concealers and foundations. And after that - you get to play! If you have warm skin tones, for example, peachy blushes and salmon lip colours will look more natural on you, whereas rosy blushes and berry lip colours will be more dramatic. The reverse will be true if your skin tones are cool.

Ultimately...it's what you feel looks good on you. I'm probably not alone in saying that this is part of the fun and the pleasure of makeup, for those of us here in the Sephora Beauty Insider Community (BIC). I hope this helps. Good luck!
