Shiseido has had a long history overseas. In 1897 they introduced their first cosmetic product, the Eudermine lotion, which is still being sold today.

This week Shiseido announced that they are revamping their entire cosmetic line, in a bid to increase traction with the millennial and younger market.

Lots of interesting new makeup products are being launched, including brushes, with  rebranded packaging but many existing products are being retired.

I think we're about to start seeing a lot more of the brand in North America, so I thought they deserved their own thread.

Have you been eying anything from the new line? What do you think of the rebrand?

Yes, @makeitup305, I bought it in Disrobed when Sephora had the GWP sample lippie in Exotic Red (I believe that’s the color). I love how it looks and feels, very smooth. I am waiting on the Visionary Gel which should arrive today. Can’t wait to try it!

The formula is so smooth, @makeitup305, wow. The color I picked up is much different on me than I expected, it’s more plum-berry. But it feels like nothing. Incredibly smooth and the wear time so far has been surprisingly good as well. I am going to have to check out those swatches.

Does anyone know if they've discontinued the Nourishing Mascara Base? It's difficult to find anywhere and I did buy all 3 at the nearby Shoppers during a points event...but that won't last me more than a year and this has been my HG ever since it replaced the "The Makeup Mascara Base" (my previous HG). :'(

I live a few blocks from Little Vietnam in Chicago, and we have what I thought was an authorized Shiseido retailer (judging from the giant sign out front) but I can't find anything about it online. I have no idea how to determine if it's legitimate, but the urge to go in there is becoming stronger and stronger! The brand is completely new to me; any must-try products you all would recommend?

I know exactly what store you are talking about! (I live in Chicago too). They carry a ton of Shiseido products, and also offer spa / nail services.  What you said made me curious and I went and checked online, and Shiseido doesn't list them as a 'licensed seller' or whatever, but then, Sephora didn't pop up on that list either, so I wouldn't give it too much credit.

What's great about that beauty store is not only are the staff so helpful and friendly, but they will just throw in some spa treatments when you make a big purchase.  Like, I'm sure they will offer you a facial if you're filling up your cart.  

That store is such a gem.  Gives us access to products that aren't even available in the US.  Lol, I don't know about you, but I'm always a little intimidated going into Argyle, but it's not like I'm discriminated against for being white.  

BTW -- do you like to eat around there? I'm more for banh mi than pho, what about you?

@tastelikewater Oh Argyle! The whole makeup color line has been revamped and shiseido has always been a mainstay for skin/aging/complexion related concerns. As far as makeup, several of us have raved about the VisionAiry Gel lipstick formula and I'm personally also in awe of the new Whipped Powder Blushes. Swatch, swatch, and swatch some more as I find a lot of their online/PR swatches are never accurate.

@Mochapj Have you read much about the new Shiseido Fude brushes and/or tried any of them? They caught my eye, but I haven't heard much about them yet.

@lachaton I haven't seen them in person yet so I have no personal feedback on them.

However over the weekend I saw Sonia from Sweet Makeup Temptations (aka the Sonia G of the brush brand) was in Japan and she said she saw them and thought they were very low quality and materials.

She has quite a substantial personal collection of brushes (several thousand) but given that she's also a brand owner now, I'm not sure how much I would weight her opinion.

That said, she's the only person I've seen say anything at all about them yet.

@Mochapj I'd love to try this brand, but my Sephora doesn't carry it in-store.  I'm getting tired of my store not having the brands I'm most excited about 😞

@greeneyedgirl107 Do you live near a Nordstrom? None of the Sephora stores in my city carry Shiseido makeup, but both of the Nordstrom stores here have a portion of the collection. Of course, after I bought a couple of things from Nordstrom, I fell in love with the formulas and ended up ordering different shades that are carried at Sephora and not Nordstrom...

@txcatx We do have a Nordstrom, but it's north of the city and I'm south of the city.  I will keep an eye out for it that next time I go, though.  Thanks for the tip 🙂

Picked up one of the new gel lipsticks in pixel pink it feels interesting very light. It makes me think of a lip stain when it dries down.

I picked up some of the new Minimalist Whipped blushes recently.

It’s a really interesting formula; like @lachaton it’s one that sort of defied my expectations. It’s super pigmented but really moussey. I tap a little on with my fingertips and it blends out nicely and dries down to a powdery finish. I had picked up 3 initially but I liked the formula so much I ended up grabbing 3 more.

Chiyoko (baby pink), Momoko (peach) , Ayao (plum), Sayoko (red), Setsuko (rose), Kokei (fuchsia)

Thank you for sharing @Mochapj I was curious about these blushes. These are all pretty shades but I’m particularly loving Momoko and Sayoko.

@Mochapj  , @lachaton Oooh!, these swatches are great! I've been waiting on picking up another blush because I haven't seen swatches ANYWHERE. Sayoko and Koei are right up my alley, perfect!

I actually picked up Sonoya (advertising works really well on me...) and it is indeed quite shimmery, applies like a dream but with a fairly noticeable golden sheen. Shiseido's version of Nars Orgasm? I'll swatch when I get home!

SAME, finding swatches for these has been near-impossible.  I realized a major barrier -- language. And not just language, alphabet.

I found this online -- can't understand any of it, obviously, but the colors are listed as numbers, and from the Shiseido website you can correlate color-to-number.  It doesn't have everything, but it's the best swatching video I've been able to find.

So I have been holding off until the sale to get the gel lipstick, and I can't even tell the difference between some of the reds.  Ginza red looks like the best red on their promotional materials, but temptalia said that 'code red' was the true red and that Ginza red was orangey. 

I ignored temptalia (at my own risk 🙂 ) and ordered Ginza red, which does look great in the video I found. 

So, after obsessing about it all week, I've ordered Ginza red in the gel lipstick and momoko in the cream to powder blush. I might just go order Sayoko (red) while the sale is still on.  It looks like such a bold and interesting color for a blush, and the texture on these look amazing.  BUT I have two Nars blush palettes, which honestly, I can hardly say I 'need' any more new blushes. The gel lipsticks and whipped powder blushes look really unique and I can't wait to get my hands on them. 

So this has turned into a rambling post.  Basically, I'm very hyped for Shiseido's new cosmetics launch. I just wish that there was more available, online and on Sephora, about the shades, textures, wearability, bc I am not 100% positive on anything.  For example, the eyeliner looks nice too, but should I risk getting a new eyeliner or just stick to the tried and true stila? you know?  So I will post up once I get the new products about how they are, and please continue sharing what you have!
