Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Week 12 (March 19-25): Use something in a different way (safely) - An opportunity to use your lipstick as blush, your eyeliner or eyebrow pencil on lips, be creative! (Just remember, some items are not tested and may not be safe for eyes or lips)

We celebrated the One Year Anniversary of this thread in November!! Although, somehow the challenge ended up with 61 weeks in a year, I’m not sure how that happened, lol.

Anyway, I figure in year two, we’ll do some repeats and some new challenges. I also plan to add in some bonus hair challenges, maybe once a month.

Okay, for simplicity, I’m going to update the numbering to be Week 1 for the new year, I hope that is not too confusing. I’ll try to get 52 weeks in the year this time! I guess I also need to update the title for 2023.

Upcoming Weekly Challenge:

Week 10 (March 5-11): Matchy matchy week! Match your makeup to your clothes, or jewelry or hair accessories, a scarf or something you wear! Inspired by @sportygirly

Week 11 (March 12-18): Green week! For St. Patrick’s Day, let’s show off all our green looks or otherwise Irish inspired looks! 💚💚🍀🍀

Week 12 (March 19-25): Use something in a different way (safely) - An opportunity to use your lipstick as blush, your eyeliner or eyebrow pencil on lips, be creative! (Just remember, some items are not tested and may not be safe for eyes or lips)

Week 13 (March 26-April 1): Cherry Blossom Week - while the peak bloom may vary around the world, let's use this week to be inspired by the beauty of the cherry blossoms.

March Bonus Hair Challenge (feel free to do anytime in March): Braid/Braids

Week 14 (April 2-8): Spring Looks week! What makes you think of spring? Gloss, pastels, spring runway looks?

Week 15 (April 9-15): Holy Grail week! I think maybe @josometimes or @titian06 suggested this one? Use your Holy Grail products that are tried, tested and loved and be sure to share why it's a fave!

Week 16 (April 16-22): Sephora Spring sale - newness/or anything you haven’t gotten around to wearing/or shop your stash. (Note: I'm not sure when the Spring sal eis happening, so I may move this one.)

Week 17 (April 23-29): Multichromes week! There have been so many great multi-chrome products and palettes lately, so let's make sure to showcase them!

Week 18 (April 30-May 6): April Showers bring May Flowers week!  This can be a bright and springy look, or a rain-inspired look (or a combo of both!).

Completed 2023 Weekly Challenges:

Week 1 (Jan 1-7): Focus on brows week! Do a bold brow or shimmery brow or just spend more time on your brows this week. Inspired by @SportyGirly125

Week 2 (Jan 8-14): Rock a red lip week! If this is a regular for you, rock it as normal, or add a fun element, like gloss or add glitter/shimmer to it. Suggested by @JoSometimes

Week 3 (Jan 15-21): Shop your stash/forgotten favorites! Dig into your stash/archives for something you haven’t used in a long time and renew your love or re-evaluate)

Week 4 (Jan 22-28): Chopping block/declutter week! Are there any items that you have been wondering about getting rid of? Do they still work, bring joy, serve a purpose in your collection? No pressure to get rid of anything, but just want to dedicate a week to evaluate some items on the heels of forgotten favorites week!

Bonus Hair Challenge for January: Do a full blowout and share your products, tips and tricks!

Week 5 (Jan 29-Feb 4): Skin prep/Complexion focus week! Take extra time this week with your skin prep. Exfoliate or use a hydrating mask prior to makeup, use a luminous or mattifying primer, foundation and/or setting spray. And/Or, focus this week on using a skincare device or skincare product if you’ve been neglecting one you own.

Week 6 (Feb 5-11): Get out of your comfort zone week! Suggested by @josometimes. This is a chance to try something new and experiment a little. If you love a red lip, try hot pink or neutral. If you love neutrals, maybe add some color. Or, wear a bolder look out to run errands or on a night out to gain confidence with a different look! Please feel free ask for tips and tricks if you’d like suggestions on techniques, color or product recommendations and share your experience and tips for others as you try something new.

Week 7 (Feb 12-18): Red/Pink/Shimmer/Glitter or whatever you want for Valentine’s/Galentines Day (inspired by @imaster

Week 8 (Feb 19-25): Pantone Color of the Year Viva Magenta week! I miss the past Sephora + Pantone collaborations, so let’s make our own.

Week 9 (Feb 26-Mar 4): Luxe brands or Luxe items. If it feels luxe to you or makes you feel fancy, use it and post it, whether it’s Target or Tom Ford, L’Oréal or La Mer!

Bonus Hair Challenge for February: Hot Rollers or Velcro Rollers and/or other techniques for volume.

So, I could definitely (still) use some makeup inspiration these days and maybe you could too! Several years ago, we used to have some weekly makeup challenge threads, so I’m bringing one back. It’s a great way to spark some creativity and maybe most importantly, a great way to shop your stash!

I started with a list of some challenges below, but also happy to edit/rearrange/consider other ideas along the way. I hope you will join me!  Feel free to post as many or as few times you’d like each week with photos of your looks. If you don’t like to post your face, feel free to do a flatlay of the products you used to do your look. Also, if you get behind or ahead, feel free to post pics whenever you have time.

Can’t wait to see all your looks! Have fun!

(It's recently dyed so its in its most vibrant state ‌😉‌ )

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Sorry, posting last week’s challenge -

I’ve been going through my Natasha Denona minis and while it’s so hard to declutter ND products, I find that the Crush and Love palettes are too similar. And so are the Nude and Sunset. Still trying to decide which to declutter but I definitely don’t need all of them. Also, considering decluttering the Gold, Retro, and Glam minis…they are so cute but I realized I haven’t used them until this challenge.

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

@AznAngelLiz i saw your updated post and how you're decluttering three minis! so impressed! i am just terrible at decluttering, especially minis (why are they so cute??). either way, super beautiful look, i love those tones on you and the lines are so clean!

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

So beautiful! I applaud you if you are able to declutter any palettes, it’s the one category I can almost never let go! Also, you look gorgeous!! @AznAngelLiz

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

@sister13 That’s why I’m starting with the minis LOL. Actually, I think I decide too quickly, probably should try it a few times before decluttering but I’m trying to go through all my palettes.

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Those palettes look great on you @AznAngelLiz! I’d say keep them!

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

I want to @JoSometimes but I need to make room for new pretties 🙄

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

You look stunning @AznAngelLiz ! ❤️ That’s such a tough decision, I wouldn’t be able to declutter any of my ND minis (well, I don’t have that many either)

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Oooh the tough decisions @AznAngelLiz Great job using them all to help you decide which ones are getting the boot 🩷 Love the looks you created this week

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

This is an awesome look from these palettes, @AznAngelLiz ! 🥰

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Thanks @Titian06 I’m surprised at how good these minis are! Like legit great quality, which made deciding which ones to keep so hard

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

This eye look is hot!! 🔥 @AznAngelLiz

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Thanks @lmaster I used both Nude and Sunset so now I can’t decide if I want to keep both or get rid of one 🙈

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Work and life have kept me far too busy this past week to try any makeup looks, but I did start decluttering last week.

When I first started getting into makeup, I stayed on the budget-minded end. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money trying to learn, only to waste it if I couldn’t master it. I also didn’t know much about makeup, so I bought things that weren’t quite right for me. I feel like I’ve improved since then and I’ve bought makeup that better suits my needs and my style.

The LA colors palettes looked nice, especially the nudes. But when I used them, they weren’t as pigmented as I thought. I had to build up a lot in order to see anything. I branched out from nudes to some pinks and purples, so I replaced it with a few palettes from Makeup Revolution. The Wet N’ Wild brow stencils never really fit my brows. The powders and pencils were either too dark or too light for me. I had better results with a micro pencil and gel, so these are going in the bin too. The liquid eyeliner is also Wet N’ Wild and is on the chopping block. I have much more control with felt tip liners and gel pots. The e.l.f. putty primer was fine with my skin, but I don’t know if it ever really did anything for me. I did like the Covergirl simply ageless foundation. I was worried about my eczema flaring up, so it was the one product that I actually tried to research. It never left me feeling dry but I wish it had a dewier finish and offered aim a greater shade range. It wasn’t quite right for me in the winter and definitely wrong for the summer. It was also a bit thicker in consistency compared other foundations that I’ve used. This one is almost out and I have my current foundations I like more, so this one is gone too.

Since I couldn’t create a look with these before I tossed them in the bin, an old photo will have to do (by old, I mean about 10 months ago). This is about a month into using makeup and this look used a majority of the products I’m cutting out (still love my red lippie and blush though so those are staying!)

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

@JoSometimes great declutter! i totally get where you're coming from - there are so many types of products that it can be overwhelming when you first get into makeup! plus finding what shades, formulas, and finishes you like ahhh! i'm happy you've started playing more with color - it looks so beautiful on you!

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Aww thanks @cianni! I’ve always loved pops of colour! It makes things a little more exciting.
And yes, it was very overwhelming at first! Shades, techniques, do’s and don’ts. Asking for advice has definitely helped navigate it all.

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

@JoSometimes if it makes you feel any better, i'm probably 15 years+ into playing with makeup and i swear i JUST discovered a good foundation match 😂 there is always something to learn!

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Glad you are keeping the lippie and blush, They look amazing on you and you look lovely and happy in this picture!  Thangs for sharing your thought process on getting into makeup and decluttering some items that no longer work for you. @JoSometimes

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Thank you @sister13! I look back at these old photos and I’m amazed at how I’ve grown in my skill and artistry. And decluttering is like a breath of fresh air for me. I’m glad you added this one in! 😊

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Congratulations on your decluttering adventure @JoSometimes! You look stunning in that picture and you did a great job for someone who didn’t know that much about makeup 😵

Re: Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023

Thank you @Saradestin! You’re too kind. ☺️ This was me watching a few YouTube tutorials and trying it out for myself. It was hard trying to apply what I saw online to my own face, especially since the ones doing the tutorials had different features. I learned the most by talking with people and getting their feedback. I learned a lot over the past year. You and many others on here have given me inspiration to try new things or shown me different ways to achieve certain looks.
