Re: Helpful Tips To Keep Makeup Organized

@peculiarzmakeup  Depends on how your brain works. When you reach for or think of makeup, what pops into your mind first: brand, product type (blush, lipstick, etc.), color, or maybe even something else? That might be the way your brain wants to organize your collection.

My brain works a bit weird. I have all my blushes together in acrylic drawers, and within the drawers they’re arranged mostly by brand. Ditto for highlighters (for now). But for lipstick bullets, I can’t make myself organize like that because I always think color first for this category. So almost all my bullets are arranged only by color and size (minis are separated from full size bullets). The only ones that aren’t are bullets that won’t fit in my carousels (Guerlain Rouge Gs and Pat McGrath SatinAllures): those are grouped by brand, then color. To further complicate things, my liquid lipsticks are all arranged by finish (matte, cream satin, gloss), then brand. Somehow this works for me. 😅

Storage containers also depend on how your mind works, but also how much space you have and the size of your collection. If I put everything away in opaque drawers, I know I won’t use anything; stuff becomes out of sight, out of mind. I need as much stuff out and/or visible as possible. I converted my old home office desk into a beauty center (eh, vanity) because it has a large surface area to hold clear acrylic drawers, plus a hutch where I can store things on shelves. Before this, all my makeup lived in my bathroom where I installed a magnetic wall system to hold a lot of things. I’ll probably duplicate part of that system in my bedroom near my beauty desk.

And I hate having to rifle around in containers to find what I’m looking for. That’s just how my brain works. It’s why all my lip liners and eyeliners live in pencil holder pages (meant to hold art pencils in a ring binder) instead of loose in a drawer, case, or cup. I can quickly see all my liners and pick the one I want, and this system generally keeps me from overbuying liners. For you, it may make more sense to keep liners in a drawer or cup. Totally depends on your preference.

Oh, and anything can be a container for makeup and other stuff. Heck, a shoebox can work. Those fun Sephora polka dot gratis boxes can hold a lotta stuff while looking cute. My liquid lipsticks live in spice racks made to sit in a drawer. I just bought a couple cheap toothbrush holders (the kind that are open with a post in the center and a ring meant to hold big/electric toothbrushes) to fully display some of my prettier makeup brushes. You can creatively repurpose things to suit your needs.

This is a lot of rambling, I know. I can show pictures of this later, if that’ll be helpful. I’ve posted photos in a few threads before.

"You can creatively repurpose things to suit you needs" That is amazing advice @WinglessOne I felt inspired after reading this. Using toothbrush holders for makeup brushes, I just pictured it, and it's genius! 😃

Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain helpful tips and what has worked for you. I like how you talked about how my brain works because that will be so helpful in deciding where to store and how to sort. I’d love to see photos this is especially helpful ❤️🫶 @WinglessOne

Re: Helpful Tips To Keep Makeup Organized

@peculiarzmakeup  If a vanity is in your budget, I recommend that. I recently moved and gifted my vanity to a friend but having drawers dedicated to categories helped me keep things organized and helped me pick out items I didn’t typically reach for. I’ve also used clear acrylic drawers for smaller items like glitter shadows and blushes and found success in that.

Re: Helpful Tips To Keep Makeup Organized

thank you that is a really good idea, right now I have everything on a shelf so I think something with drawers would be really helpful 💕 @gonerogue
