Help no matter what I do my makeup always looks cakey

no matter what I do or products I use my feet. My makeup always comes out looking cheeky and streaky. I have combination skin. I’m just trying to figure out what I need to do from start to finish to make my makeup look flawless I don’t know what products I should be using I have been trying everything and it’s just not working

Re: Help no matter what I do my makeup always looks cakey

@liqit  Cakey makeup could be the result of a number of things.  Is your skin oily?  Do you have textured skin?
a common culprit is using too much skincare.  If your skincare is applied too thickly it cannot all absorb and you end up with makeup that is gliding around on your face and settling in areas.

Using too thick a layer of makeup is also a common cause of caking.  Less is more- especially in the more mobile areas of your face.  A lot of people try covering up their imperfections with a thicker layer of foundation when they can use way less product by applying colour correction underneath to neutralize redness or dark circles for example.  Once colour correcting is done you need way less base product!
If you’re using powder to set your makeup, don’t apply it directly to your face as you see in many makeup tutorials.  Instead, put the powder on the back of your hand and press that powder into your hand by using a damp beauty blender to tap it in.  THEN, once it’s pressed into your hand evenly, use the sponge to press the powder it’s absorbed onto your face.

spray your face with setting spray and press it into the makeup as well using the same sponge.

You might try a light weekly exfoliation, it might be helpful @liqit but if you start using actives and exfoliating you should lock in a daily SPF first to protect your skin. Exfoliating can help give your makeup a smooth base but it  makes your skin more susceptible to damage from the sun.

@liqit

I can't use heavy foundations anymore. Try a bb or cc cream or a tinted veil product.

Powder foundations or just finishing powders. Blurring products. Lightweight products.

Also, what are you moisturizing with? Many times that will affect the products going over it. Oil moisturizer with water based foundation or vice versa maybe.  Too heavy of a cream maybe. If you aren't moisturizing then try a moisturizer. Or a tinted one.

@liqit @Are you using products catered to your skin type?
