Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Whether you find yourself in the same place or somewhere in between, jump right on it and share your weekly makeup capsule. Check out the FAQ section below ⤵️ for more info on this challenge.

CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:

Week 41 (October 7 - 13) - The "Dynamic Duos (or Trios)" Makeup Capsule and/or The "Products with Interesting / Attention-Grabbing Names" Makeup Capsule -  Are there certain combinations of products that are just so exceptionally well suited for you, be it a go-to lip liner and lipstick pairing, or a smokey eye and red lip combination that slays, or a blush and highlighter mix that makes your cheeks pop? Curate a capsule with two or more products that fit better together, or if you have a set of products that just work seamlessly, please share your all-star beauty combinations.

OR,

Put together a capsule with one or more products bearing interesting or attention-grabbing names. I'll leave it to you to define what falls within the definition of "interesting" 🤤 or "attention-grabbing". 😮

Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 10.6.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.

Spoiler
Week 42 (October 14 - 20) - The "Makeup I'm Thankful For" Makeup Capsule and/or The Do Over / Take 2 Makeup Capsule - To celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving (October 14) with our Canadian BIC beauties 🇨🇦, let's curate a capsule this week of products you are thankful for, be it:
  • because it was gifted to you by a friend, family or brand
  • because it's a HG or a tried-and-true product you can't be without
  • because it holds sentimental or nostalgic value to you
  • or, just because

OR, use the week to repeat or "do over" a past makeup capsule or capsule theme. Consider posting your "Do over" / "Take 2" 🎬 look on the Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023/2024 thread. 😍

What is a capsule makeup collection?

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.

Why have a capsule makeup collection?

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

The CT bronzer really is very generously sized @itsfi. I love the feel of a large compact thou. They just feel extra fancy.  I'm very sure this one will last me years. 🤭

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Truth @danielledanielle Top picks and top notch 😉 I'm hitting that theme twice lol.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Week 26: The The June 2024 "On Top", "On the Chopping Block" and/or "On Repeat" Makeup Capsule

I'll be rotating between two capsules this week. The first is based primarily on some well-loved products from the various capsules this month. I wore this capsule yesterday - it's a nice, quick & easy routine with warmth and glow that's a great way to start the work week.

Complexion:
Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation is a holy grail, ride or day, all-time favorite, GOAT 🐐 product for me - I love the dewy glow and coverage I get from this skin ti

A recent 'go to' combination this month has been mixing U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator with the Urban Decay Face Bond Self Setting Waterproof Foundation - coverage, glow, long-wearing and self-setting. The only thing I need to do is to see how this pairing compares to @makeitup305's recommendation to mix the  DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster and UD Bond Foundation. Stay tuned, folks. Stay tuned.

Both HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-puffing Concealer with Fermented Arnica and MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin™ Awakening Concealer wear beautifully on my skin - for concealing blemishes, redness and dark under eyes. 😘

on my lower waterline and voila, I instantaneously look more awake, even if I'm not necessarily feeling it.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Love The Lift Curling + Volumizing Waterproof Mascara Ultra Black # continues to work really well for me - lifts and adds a slight curl to my stick straight lashes. The effect of course is even better when I curl my lashes beforehand. No smudging or smearing most days - when it's warm and humid out, or if I forget to set my undereye area with powder, there is some transfer by mid-da

Cheeks:
TOM FORD Soleil Glow Bronzer 02 Terra is a good all over bronze for my complexion, and doubles as a quick wash of color over the eyelids.

MAKEUP BY MARIO SoftSculpt Transforming Skin Enhancer®  pairs beautifully with Tom Ford Terra as a deeper bronzer and/or as a contour.

I have been pleasantly surprised by HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Color Fuse Longwear Hydrating Glassy Lip + Cheek Blush Balm Stick Glassy Hibi... - it's more hydrating, cushiony/plumpy and soft on the skin than I expected. The color works so nicely for my cheeks and lips. These weekly capsules have really gotten me more into cream blushes, particularly those in stick form. This one ranks up there for me with Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick Petal and Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Hibiscus.

Lips
The Haus Labs Lip + Cheek stick doubles as a lippie that leaves a beautiful stain on my lips. I really like that it doesn't feel drying on my lips.

Clarins Lip Perfector is an OG for me, going back nearly a decade. Like most, if not all, makeup brands, my intro to it came in the form of a lip product - their lip oils and then the lip perfector. I tended to a different shade when I first used the lip perfector but the formulation of this one has remained relatively the same to the one I first used. 6 Rosewood is a pretty pinky brown that doesn't lean too far one shade or the other, and I love it.
The second capsule for this week is a mélange of different products, some on point with one or more of the week's prompts and others that I'm using this week as an audition for a potential spot in a few of next month's  makeup capsules. 😉

Complexion:
Bobbi Brown Mini Vitamin Enriched Face Base Moisturizer & Primer with Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid 0.... is a dream primer when my skin is dry or very dry. Typically, that's in the fall/winter seasons but this spring has been a bit brutal weather wise. I feel like we're turning a corner with warmer temps but it's hardly what could be considered summer weather, or even consistent summer weather. Soon though.

Picked up samples of foundations I've been meaning to try. I couldn't find a good color match when LYS launched LYS Beauty Triple Fix Serum Foundation 3 years ago but am wondering if I might have better luck now that I have a little more warmth to my complexion. Have also been interested in testing out the RMS Beauty ReEvolve Natural Finish Foundation

The consistency and finish of the IOPE Perfect Cover Cushion SPF 50+ / PA+++ is better suited for my skin in the warmer months (when it's more normal / combination) so I've pulled this beauty out to see how it performs. It's got an expiration date of October 2024 😬 so if it works out well, we may be seeing this in more capsules and possibly, in the Pan It! - 2024 Challenge.

Eyes:

Eyeshadow palettes. 2024 has seen me use different eyeshadow palettes on a more regular basis than I have in the past 4 or 5 years. I know how long it takes for me to pan an eyeshadow palette and it's safe to say I won't be able to work my way through all the ones in my collection. My stretch goal is to declutter (by way of re-homing or donating) at least 4 eyeshadow palette - that's one per quarter, but I even decluttered one so I'm a bit behind. The Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate - Salted Caramel is very pretty but I'm undecided about this one.

This Ere Perez Natural Almond Mascara - Mauve (it's more of a purple) is one I'm auditioning for The Pops of Colour: Summer Edition Makeup Capsule theme making a return in a couple of weeks.

Cheeks:
Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Soft Pinch Liquid Blush Hope - love a good mini but even this one is going to take forever to work my way through - there's a lot of product packed into this tiny bottle and a little goes a very loooooong way with this formulation.

Lips:
Etude Ginger Sugar Meltng Balm Stick - 02 Soft Mauve glides across my lips and is really pretty cooler toned rosy mauve hue.

The CAY SKIN Isle Lip Balm SPF 30 with Sea Moss and Aloe Stem Cells  I love so that's not going anywhere, but I'm undecided on the Huda Beauty Lip Liner.

Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes is one that took me by surprise. It's part of my project pan for the year and this palette has been showing much progress on the Pan It! - 2024 Challenge. Just wanting to make sure it gets some love and attention every so often, including in an upcoming prompt next month, The Project Pan Makeup Capsule. I'm looking forward to seeing what products everyone is / has been working to pan, whether or not they're also doing it as part of the Pan It! Challenge here.
It all fits …

We'll be officially through one-half of the year after this week - can you believe it?!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Half a year of makeup capsules? I can't believe it is that far into the year already. Where is the time going?? 😅

This has been a great thread to follow along and be a part of! It's been an exciting addition to all the fun BIC things. Thank you for half a year of capsules! 🙏

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@CynthieLu, time certainly does fly by. It’s been fun curating capsules with everyone here. I feel like I’ve gotten a lot more than I expected or hoped to from the challenge. And, of course, it’s good research 🧐 for future purchases. 😝 🛍️

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Very true, this has been a great way to see what others are loving. 😉 BIC inspiration is my personal fave. @itsfi 😍

Week 25 - Dior Round Up

It was a very good week with the spotlight on Dior for "The Good Stuff  Makeup Capsule

25 - The Good Stuff Recap 1.jpg

Spoiler
I do love trying out new foundations and concealers and I've been fortunate that the Dior ones have always worked out very well for me.

DIOR Dior Forever Glow Veil Makeup Primer 1oz / 30ml is wonderful for added luminosity under foundation; a repurchase. This may be the newer version; I didn't notice a difference in performance.

DIOR Dior Forever Skin Glow Hydrating Foundation 2N Neutral, another Dior item that falls into my repurchased products list.

DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 2N works well for my complexion but I may follow @makeitup305's lead and pick up 3N & 4N at another time.

DIOR Dior Forever Skin Correct Full-Coverage Concealer 1.5 Neutral
DIOR Backstage Concealer 2N
DIOR Dior Forever Loose Cushion Powder - can't seem to locate the light (001) to tag
Dior Forever Perfect Fix is a good setting spray but I have so many good or even great ones that this will not be a repurchase when I work my way through it - I'm close - there's about 1/3 of the bottle left.

25 - The Good Stuff Recap 2.jpg

Spoiler
The only beauty here that I'm undecided about and it's really my personal preferences / comfort level and not the product's performance, which is really good, is the Dior Rouge Blush - 556 Cosmic Coral (limited edition). I've been slowly getting back into blushes this year but I (surprise, surprise) tend to stick to the same color families - corals is generally not one of them, in any beauty category other than possibly nail polish. I do like how soft and smooth this applies, that it has good staying power (7+ hours), and it blends out nicely. I also don't think I have many (or maybe, any) cheek colors like this in my collection. It will certain stick around for a while longer, and I'll try to incorporate it more into my future capsules).

Everything else is sticking around because these are really lovely. I fell behind on my plans to take part in a couple of the Cheek Challenge Summer 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure and Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023/2024 but wil plan to get in at least one or two of the looks I had in mind. Including some diffused bronzey looks with these Dior cheek products.
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 014 Rosy
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 016 Bronze
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 017 Nude (gratis)
DIOR Dior Forever Natural Powder Bronzer 5
DIOR Dior Forever Natural Powder Bronzer
Dior Forever Natural Bronze Glow Sun-Kissed Finish Healthy Glow Powder - 052 Rosy Bronze (Limited Edition)

25 - The Good Stuff Recap 4.jpg

Spoiler
The lip items are all good with me, no surprise. Lip products are usually my hook into a brand and it was the same with Dior. I am a fan of most of their lippies.

The Dior Fall/Winter 2011 Ready to Wear Palette (Nordstrom exclusive) is an oldie but one I literally just started using last week 😔 (do better, Fi; do better!) and it's not bad. The shades in this one really lend itself to be an everyday palette. I was considering including it in my project pan when I finish up a certain products but may do so with this one for next year.

DIOR Diorshow On Stage Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner 781 Matte Brown and 296 Matte Denim are lovely. I think I need to pull my liquid eyeliners together and start using one weekly. A longer battle - a fun and practical way to go about testing products in my stash. @ather

DIOR Diorshow On Stage Crayon Kohl Liner 529 Beige is a nice one for my lower waterline; it leans more cool than the Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light 1 (discontinued), my current favorite.

DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara Black
DIOR Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub 0.12 oz/ 3.40 g
DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 020 Mahogany
DIOR Dior Addict Lip Glow 038 Rose Nude
DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 001 Pink
DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 009 Intense Rosewood
DIOR Rouge Dior Refillable Lipstick 100 Nude Look

25 - The Good Stuff Recap 5.jpg

Spoiler
Skincare and nail care - the "extras" that found their way into this week's makeup capsule.
DIOR Capture Dreamskin 1-Minute Mask 2.5 oz / 75 mL - love this mask as a semi-regular part of my skincare routine and also for makeup prep.

Dior Creme Abricot Strengthening Nail Care is a classic, and a repeated repurchase. It pairs nicely with the newest addition to the Dior nail care lineup, the Dior Huile Abricot Nutritive Serum for Nails and Cuticles.

25 - The Good Stuff Recap 6.jpg

These Dior bags are practical and pretty. Love how much product they hold.

No declutters this week so we’re still holding at 6 for the month. I really loved using all these Dior beauties this week; I'm considering carrying it over into next week as well. 🤔

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Fabulous round up of your "The Good Stuff!" Capsule @itsfi

I think nothing being declutter means that this was exactly that, the goods!

What is your top pick for setting spray? Is it the Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL ? I'm trying to remember if you've mentioned it before 🤔

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

That is definitely a great use of "The Good Stuff" theme @itsfi . I'm in love with your collection!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Awww, thank you @makeitup305! There are probably just a few brands that I have enough products for a full face. Here, I think I’m missing a brow product from Dior, but I think I probably have (a very, very old) one that’s likely at the bottom of a pile of my Dior quints and other lippies.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

These are all the products I focused on during the month of May. I still incorporated a lot of other products in my collection but these were set aside on purpose. I love the Dior Skin Glow and Maximizer. Those have been some of my favorite products overall this year. The Bobbi Brown highlighter has a slight shift but is still wearable. I like having something a little different than what I usually go for. The ND highlighter is gorgeous as expected. I enjoy the VB Blush but it doesn't stand out to me. I ADORE the House of Hur blush and picked up another shade. This is what I want every liquid blush to be like. The Merit cream bronzer is really good and the Etude one is perfect for precise contouring. If you need something similar to the VB Contour, this is it (although I don't own the VB so I'm just speculating). The SC cream contour is ok but it's very pigmented so you have to be careful. The Judydoll contour palette is good quality but just ok for me, but the donut highligher is a very smooth shine. THe NARS blush, though reformulated, is still is a great product. I didn't use the Phytosurgence blushes much. This brand is just kind of meh for me.

20240601_150922 (1).jpg

Both the TFit, the Laura Mericer, and the Jung Saem Mool concealers are very good. The JSM is a little too yellow but I can make it work. I LOVE the JSM foundation so much I want to try the other ones in their range. I still haven't used the Glowish primer, which probably means I should declutter it (but I'm not ready to). The UD foundation is a little deep but paired with the Dior Skin Glow in 2N is *chef's kiss*. I always wanted to try the Chanel Les Beiges blush and I'm enjoying it. Is it worth the money? meh. I'm glad I have it, though. I enjoyed both the L'Oreal Serum Foundation and the Primera Tone Up primer.

20240601_151023 (1).jpg

These are all super solid, well performing eyeshadows. The CT palette is completely underhyped imo.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Ooooh you had some beautiful things picked out for the month @makeitup305 😍

I do the same, I mix Star Filter with my DM skin tint, it's good!👌It's a fun one to play around with. 😉

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@CynthieLu I've really liked mixing it in to products but also just as a primer under foundation. It makes the finish of the foundation so radiant without changing the formula. Glad you enjoyed it, too!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

That donut highlighter @makeitup305!!! 😍 That would definitely be glazed donut skin. Lol 😝
