CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 40 - (September 30 - October 6) - The "Pop of Colour": Fall Edit Makeup Capsule and/or The Musician Founded or Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - Hey BIC! Fall is in full swing. Show us some pop of fall color, be it lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, etc. Shouting out @missjeanie for the great theme suggestion and @cianni who I think mentioned earlier in the year some fall-worthy red lippies in her collection.
With the American Music Awards airing on October 6, thought it might be a fun way to jazz up the prompts with a capsule consisting of one or more products from beauty brands founded or owned by musicians. See spoiler for non-exhaustive list.
Below are some musician founded or owned makeup brands. This is a non-exhaustive list. Brands with an asterisk (*) next to it are available at Sephora (in store or online, or both). If the founder/owner is not easily identifiable by the brand name, his/her/their name appears in the parens.

*Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
*GXVE by Gwen Stefani
*Haus Labs by Lady Gaga

What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
Ooooh you had some beautiful things picked out for the month @makeitup305 😍
I do the same, I mix Star Filter with my DM skin tint, it's good!👌It's a fun one to play around with. 😉
@CynthieLu I've really liked mixing it in to products but also just as a primer under foundation. It makes the finish of the foundation so radiant without changing the formula. Glad you enjoyed it, too!
Yes! DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster is a wunderkind@makeitup305
That donut highlighter @makeitup305!!! 😍 That would definitely be glazed donut skin. Lol 😝
@itsfi @It’s really pretty. They also have a super sparkly white one.
This is such a fantastic thread @itsfi I’ve always wanted to join in and so todays the day!
I don’t have any pictures right now but

glad to see you've joined in on the fun! Great choices @peculiarzmakeup
Awesome choices for your capsule @peculiarzmakeup !
Thank you so much it’s amazing to find keepers for sure @makeitup305 💕
It's great to see you joining in on this thread! @peculiarzmakeup 😀 And what a fun first capsule! Everything you picked out is lovely.WA makes the most smooth and creamy products. 😍 Everything you've put together here is going to be fun to use.
Thank you so much @CynthieLu 😊 WA does make such creamy products, it’s fun to consider a capsule and keep these things in mind! I appreciate it ❤️
@peculiarzmakeup, always so good to see you on the threads; welcome! Join in anytime; we'd love to have you and are always interested in seeing what beauties folks are using.
Those are definitely the good stuff! I love how well edited and thoughtful the MERIT line is - they've expanded a lot from when they first started but the pieces in their collection work beautifully. Stockholm is a beautiful pink and Baby has that lovely "is that her natural lip color or is she wearing lipstick" quality about it. Yes to Westman Atelier; Petal is my favorite of her cheek shades.
Thank you so much 😊 @itsfi I had the exact same thought about the lip shade! And that baby pink is so colorful I just love it. 😍
Pulled a few products from this week's larger Dior focused capsule for a (relatively) quick, simple and easy look. This capsule within a capsule approach has been working out well for me; happy we had a chat about that @caitbird!
DIOR Capture Dreamskin 1-Minute Mask 2.5 oz / 75 mL to address a pesky (and ill-positioned) pimple and some texture on my jawline.
Sticking with a multi-tasking approach, I used DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 2N as a primer and DIOR Backstage Concealer 2N and DIOR Dior Forever Skin Correct Full-Coverage Concealer 2 Neutral as my foundation and concealer, to even tone and as concealer for the under eyes, blemishes and redness.
Eyes were kept simple with a wash of color to my lids from the 2011 Fall-Winter Ready-To-Wear Makeup Palette, a couple o quick strokes of DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara Black and DIOR Diorshow On Stage Crayon Kohl Liner 529 Beige in the lower waterline. This is smidge more cool toned than the Makeup by Mario Light 1 (discontinued) but can easily be made to work.
Cheeks also came from the 2011 Fall-Winter Ready-To-Wear Makeup Palette with a blend of the powder blush and the two brown toned eyeshadows; though if I redid this look, I might add the DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 014 Rosy to this subcapsule. And, possibly DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 016 Bronze though that would make for a more full face look. Which maybe I'll go for later this week, and perhaps try my hand at a different technique 😮 a la the Cheek Challenge Summer 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure.
Lips started off with DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 001 Pink (mini) and DIOR Rouge Dior Contour No-Transfer Lip Liner Pencil 772 Classic. Touch ups after lunch will be courtesy of DIOR Dior Addict Lip Glow 038 Rose Nude because I don't have a lot of time to fuss with liner this afternoon, and this balm is comfortable to wear, quick to apply, easy to keep in my pant's pocket, and adds a nice muted pinky-rose tint to my lips that's buildable
I've set it all with Dior Forever Perfect Fix Fresh Settinng Mist High Perfection Longwear & Hydrating - this is probably the older version. This is a good setting spray but I feel like I have a lot of setting sprays; and, while good may not be good enough as far as which setting sprays stay and which go, I'm going to keep this one as I have just slightly more than a 1/3 of the bottle left and I do like this spray. Not pictured but I also used DIOR Dior Forever Loose Cushion Powder to set the concealer under my eyes.
And, yes, there's an additional Dior makeup bag added to this week's capsules. It was just easier to grab another bag to keep this group of beauties together. It's a pretty roomy bag so "fits" was (thankfully) not an issue.
Awesome capsule @itsfi . I haven't tried the newer versions of the Dior concealers but I've heard good things. The Skin Glow is a true love for me. I also have 2N and ended up buying 3N to slighly deepen some foundations. 4N is looking good as a cream bronzer lol
@makeitup305, thank you; I like my Dior collection; it took some time to build out. I was nervous about some of the reformulations based on what I’ve read but so far the newer items I have from the brand - primer, foundation, concealer - have performed just as well. I have a couple of their older versions of the single eyeshadows but don’t see myself picking up more from the newer range.
I’m most interested (and concerned) about the Re formulation of the Dior Backstage F&B foundation - concealer is fine. I have heard some saying that the new F&B isn’t as good and the colors have changed a little. Hoping that is not the case. I loved the old F&B foundation - 1.5 was a great, great match for me 😘 but I swatched it and 2N in store and it looks like if they had a 1.75 that would be best for me. 😆 We shall see; I have a handful of foundations in my stash to use first. That’ll give it some time too for the store to restock some shades. Lol 😆
From what I recall swatching, the newer version is more luminous @itsfi . It definitely looks lighter but I don't think I swatched it long enough to witness the dry down and whether or not it oxidized/darkened.
Ahhh, thank you @danielledanielle! I’ll have to remember to swatch them the next time I’m in the store that carries the F&B foundation.
I agree, as always your capsule picks are so well thought out! 💞 The D'ior looks phenomenal and a new roomy bag too, these are all so lovely! @itsfi
@CynthieLu, thank you. Shopping my stash this week was a blast!
Beautiful makeup capsule collection, I really love the variety and the well thought out product picks, beautiful photos! @itsfi
