CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 40 - (September 30 - October 6) - The "Pop of Colour": Fall Edit Makeup Capsule and/or The Musician Founded or Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - Hey BIC! Fall is in full swing. Show us some pop of fall color, be it lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, etc. Shouting out @missjeanie for the great theme suggestion and @cianni who I think mentioned earlier in the year some fall-worthy red lippies in her collection.
With the American Music Awards airing on October 6, thought it might be a fun way to jazz up the prompts with a capsule consisting of one or more products from beauty brands founded or owned by musicians. See spoiler for non-exhaustive list.
Below are some musician founded or owned makeup brands. This is a non-exhaustive list. Brands with an asterisk (*) next to it are available at Sephora (in store or online, or both). If the founder/owner is not easily identifiable by the brand name, his/her/their name appears in the parens.

*Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
*GXVE by Gwen Stefani
*Haus Labs by Lady Gaga

What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
@Mellmars1185, yeah, it's been eye opening for me as well, and helpful with the low / no buy too. I wasn't sure I was going to have too much for this week's capsule theme but turns out, I just needed to look through my stash more closely. I hoard more than I thought. 😩 BUT, it's an opportunity to use what I have and let go of the things that need to go.
Ahhhh, canceling subscriptions. Good for you! You can always re-up if you find yourself missing it. I cancelled the last of my beauty subscription boxes about 3-1/2 years ago. For me personally, it was a good decision to make. I enjoyed a lot of the things I received in them, but I also had a lot of things that I never used. How are you feeling about canceling your subscriptions?
@itsfi That is awesome you were able to cancel. Do you find it helped you reduce your stash? Do you miss them at all? Thank you! I feel great about canceling them. I enjoy the one I have left but I find it enables me to purchase even more with add ons. The items are not a great price if I don't wnd up using them or they go bad. I will try to regift some items.
@Mellmars1185, it definitely helped to reduce my stash, in a few ways - less products coming in regularly on a monthly basis and, when I canceled the first few, I started taking stock of what items from previous boxes I was not using and well, eye opening. That lead to taking stock of what I had and doing some massive decluttering of unopen products and to canceling all but one box, which I kept for a couple of years and then canceled altogether. No regrets about canceling. They were fun when I had them but it was a good time for me to be done as well.
@Mellmars1185 I hope this week your capsule works out, best of luck trying out the Maybelline foundation! Here's to hoping it behaves all day for you.🤞🤞
@CynthieLu Thanks! This shall be an interesting experiment!
From what I'm reading there's some concerns about the foundation behaving, ooh I wish you so much luck!! @Mellmars1185
@CynthieLu Worst case scenario I will try the BB bream when in the office and wear the Maybelline when I work from home 😅
Oooh that's a good idea @Mellmars1185, if it won't behave it won't make it out of the house. 🙈
@Mellmars1185 Ohhhh the draw of the PC points... I know it well lol! I hope the Maybelline foundation held up for you!
@missjeanie I should only take advantage of the point multiplers when I actually need something 😅
@Mellmars1185 Very true! Most of my points come from groceries so I'm not as tempted to run in to shoppers very often.
Week 3 is here!
@itsfi reminded me of a blush I wanted to include, so I used that as the jumping off point for the rest of the products. It’s going to be a very pinky week for me! I again included a fragrance, and managed to keep it under the cap for this weeks challenge! Everything here is under $20 CAD, so it’ll be well under the $20 USD threshold!
Face
Eyes
Lips
Fragrance
@cianni I can't wait to hear /maybe see how these items work out for you. This is such a fun category.
@Mellmars1185 I’ll definitely post a pic of a look from this week when I use more of the products! I was in a rush this morning and only managed to use a couple, although I was really happy with how the lip combo turned out!
Lol oooh ok ok a USD threshold gives me alot more wiggle room. @cianni 😉
Great picks! Everything here looks so fun! I like this pink kinda champagne vibe I'm getting from your items. These look like they will make some beautiful looks on you.
Thank you @CynthieLu ! I did a Quick Look today and was so happy with how easy it was to come up with a cohesive look ☺️
That sounds like you selected just the right items @cianni 👌 good job!!
@cianni, this is great!!! I love the products you picked out - they seem like they will be easy to apply too, another plus! 💗
Do your Physicians Formula items have a scent to them? If so, how strong would you describe them. Some but not all of their products can have an intense fragrance to them that is too much for me,
@itsfi The two I have here have scents, but I checked the other PF blush I have and it’s not scented. This blush has a sweet, candy like scent that I notice in the pan but not on the face. The bronzer has the butter bronzer scent, and I find it a little stronger than the blush. Maybe because it’s a liquid product? It does dissipate as you wear it, but I notice it upon application for sure
@cianni, thank you. I have mixed feelings about the butter bronzer line - sometimes I love the smell and other times, it's just a lot. 😆 Glad you are getting an opportunity to put them to more use.
@itsfi I totally agree! The scent is definitely stronger in the liquid version versus the powder bronzer. I’m thinking of mixing it in my moisturizer and making my own bronzing drops, which should dilute the scent as well
