Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Week 49 (December 2 - 😎 - The Beautifully Bold or Delightfully Demure Makeup Capsule and/or The "Savvy Shopper" Makeup Capsule - The "Beautifully Bold or Delightfully Demure" Makeup Capsule prompt was inspired by a comment by the mom of our marvelous @caitbird. Mama caitbird is a gem - bringing broken mugs back to life, making delicious meals and treat. She's a superwoman and it just made me laugh heartily when caitbird shared about an occasion when her mom gave her major side-eye over one of caitbird's stunningly vibrant and beautiful makeup looks of the day.

Curate a capsule with the one or more products you use for a beautifully bold or delightfully demure look. Or, a capsule with a mix of these two looks. Also, for this theme, you may want to consider a tie-in with Cheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe for a princess / prince - like flush of color.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

I've never tried a cushion, so first impression, I was just meh.  Once it dried down, it was a "Ooooh, nice and skin like with a pretty good shade match," but I'm not sure if it caused some irritation or the beekmans moisturizer I tried.... Or just general womanhood, so I'm backing off of it and will probably retry on the weekend @makeitup305

Week 46 - The "Time Capsule" Makeup Capsule

I approached this week's capsule as if putting together my ultimate makeup capsule collection (or of products that would be part of it), though I pared it down to a more manageable set for this week. 👍

💗  Skin prep: Dior One-Minute Mask after cleansing and toning and before my serum(s), moisturizer,  and SPF. 

COMPLEXION: 

🌼  Primer (Face): Bobbi Brown Base is my go-to in the cooler months. I don't generally pull this out until we're closer to winter but it's been a cooler autumn so this'll be in the rotation for a few months.

🌹 Foundation: Going with a tried-and-true GOAT, the Tower 28 SunnyDays in Melrose

🌻 Concealer: Haus Labs for a couple of spots

🌷Setting Powder: I'm going with a favorite of mine, Sephora Collection Microsmooth Pressed Powder

EYES:

❇️ Primer (Eyes): about-face Shadow Fix Eye Primer - I'll be alternating between this and the NARS Pro-Prime most of the time

🎀 Eyeshadow: I'm including the Natasha Denona Biba Eye Shadow Palette here (in the time capsule) more for sentimental reasons than anything else and it seems fitting that it should have a place in a time capsule given just how much time I've spent working my way through the shadows in it. I will, from time to time during the week, supplement with different eyeshadows.

💟  Eyeliner (lash line): Mizon Vegan Waterproof Eyeliner is one I've really been impressed with.

✨ Eyeliner (waterline): Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light 1 (discontinued)

💄  Lipstick (liquid lipstick): Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain 10 HR Liquid Lipstick - 80 Honeymoon (not pictured) - this represents the other capsule theme - it is an awesome and affordable find during the holiday savings event, and the burgundy lip color that I've been on the hunt for for some time.  

💞  Lip oil: Rare Beauty Lip Oil - Delight - this is really more of a stain than an oil. For lip oils my favorite are the Ami Cole lip oils. This along with the Ami Cole and Rhode blushes and the lippies in the battle of the red lipsticks make up my lip options for the week. 

THE "FITS":  

The decision for which bag to use for this week's capsule was easy.

You know I’d be happy to see Rhode in Sephora. ♥️ It could be a very successful partnership for both. It will be interesting to see when (or if, though I think it’s more of a when) Rhode decides to go from direct to consumer to the retail sector. Hard to imagine Hailey Bieber and her team not having already had conversations with prospective retail partners or thought about what that means or what they might need/want in order to make that a reality.

Week 45 - The Sweater Weather Makeup Capsule In Review 

For the most part, the products from this week's capsule performed well, but there are no additional items to be added to the Top Shelf. There are a few items that I'm on the fence about and some that will be passed on, less so because of deficiencies in performance and more because I have plenty of that particular type of product that stands out more than the one from this week's capsule.

I like the coverage of Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder Universal enough to look into the tinted versions, but I have mixed feelings about its performance as a primer. I prefer applying this with a brush rather than my fingers. It does a nice job of blurring the appearance of pores on my skin but it also seemed to separate on certain parts of my face. I need to play with this one a little while longer.

My summer "tan" is almost completed faded; maybe another couple of weeks. I'll revisit a shade match of the PATRICK TA Major Skin Hydra-Luxe Luminous Skin Perfecting Foundation For Natural Glow then - for now, it seems like I've narrowed it down to either 8 Golden or 10 Neutral. This isn't one I need so I'm not feeling pressed to figure out a shade match before the sale ends. 

Jack Black NightMode™ Lip Treatment 0.25 oz / 7 mL takes a lot of effort to get the product out of the tube. I'm going to take a pair of scissors to this one and transfer the product into a travel size jar. If it gets a good deal of use, I'll keep my back up of this one; if not, the second tube will be donated.

💝  The cooling feeling of the Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Icy Sherbet Primer is nice and I can it being a plus in the warmer seasons, but I'm not so sure that's enough to make this silicone-based primer standout among my other primers to keep it around until then to test out that theory. This is being donated.

💝  SEPHORA COLLECTION Sephora Colorful® Eyeshadow 218 Shock Choc is a gorgeous shade swatched - it's a near perfect shade in my opinion but the fallout and color when applied to my lids (even with a primer) isn't great. This too will be donated.

🥊  GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner will, after much debate with myself, go back into the stash for a future battle.

That's 2 decluttered items for this week and for the month so far. 

Battle of the red lips will continue over the long weekend. I'm making my way through the remaining ones at a pretty good clip and making decisions about most of them fairly quickly, too. Should have an update after the holiday weekend and will post results to the Beauty Product Battles, Throw Downs and Showdowns thread.

Thank you @peculiarzmakeup! The DM blurring balm has been interesting. I really like that it is not drying on my skin and it does a nice job of blurring. I’m adding the tinted version to my list of things to consider for next year. Yes, next year. After this past wave of sales, I’m trying to be very selective about what I purchase - not sure how that plan will work out with the year end sales that will come! 😆

Week 41, Dynamic Duos

I don't remember the inspo, but it was lip combo heavy.  After reading the prompt 🤦🏽‍♀️, this explains the lip combos.  I think I used 2/3 of the lip combos.  This was also another Danessa Myricks Beauty Groundwork: Defining Neutrals - Palette For Eyes, Brows, Face & Lips week, but I also wanted to play with Danessa Myricks Beauty LIGHTWORK VI The Freedom Palette: Magnetic, Customizable, Stackable Palette w... , so it was a natural pairing.

This was the week where I realized the DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick breaks me out 😭😭

Week 45 - Ahhhhh!! Becca skin tint - DONE!!! Awesome work, @danielledanielle with the Becca and also getting caught up! Gotta add fragrance to a sweater weather capsule. Do you wear By The Fireplace and Fall Cashmere separately or do you layer them?

I'm super proud to have finished two complexion products, the other is the Hourglass Mini Ambient® Lighting Powder Radiant Light ,  Hourglass Mini Ambient® Lighting Powder Luminous Lightwhich is showing godet.  I feel like I should get another, but I know I don't need it because that took years to get to do, and it's a mini.  What to do? What to do?

The face off was fun, I ended up pairing those palettes together and getting some decent looks.  The ABH golds are losing some oomph, but everything else still performed well.

It took you years to finish the Hourglass?!!! Hmmm.... 🤔 I was thinking about adding my mini Dim Light to next year's pan it! challenge. I wasn't expecting to finish in a year but years, you say @danielledanielle? Going to have to think through how many loooooong term projects like that I want to have for next year's group. 🤣
