Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:   

Week 41 (October 7 - 13) - The "Dynamic Duos (or Trios)" Makeup Capsule and/or The "Products with Interesting / Attention-Grabbing Names" Makeup Capsule -  Are there certain combinations of products that are just so exceptionally well suited for you, be it a go-to lip liner and lipstick pairing, or a smokey eye and red lip combination that slays, or a blush and highlighter mix that makes your cheeks pop? Curate a capsule with two or more products that fit better together, or if you have a set of products that just work seamlessly, please share your all-star beauty combinations. 

OR, 

Put together a capsule with one or more products bearing interesting or attention-grabbing names. I'll leave it to you to define what falls within the definition of "interesting" 🤤 or "attention-grabbing". 😮

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Thank you 🙂 that’s so awesome that the challenge timeline matched with the timing of organizing samples. I have more samples not pictures but they are things I’ve tried and some have products of. I don’t know if this is a thing but sometimes if I have a sample of something I have already I just put the sample into the product haha. 

I liked working on this capsule the product samples I chose are less familiar, 

I know my blush preferences well 

and Eye products 

These categories represent what I would like to know more about for myself 

Sunscreen is a big one for me I live in a very cold climate so I didn’t encorporate that as much. 

I am definatley going to reflect in the Love at First sample thread. 

I plan to use acronyms for each capsules organization

Oh my goodness, those gwp bags just multiply my samples stash like crazy @Buootiful! Would love to see what your  samples capsules looks like, and whether you find any beauties you must have! 💗 Doesn’t have to be a full face of samples, could be a mix of sample and full size products in your capsule.

Yay!! @itsfi  Sample capsule! I am here for it! I haven’t been as good at using my samples so this will boost my numbers! 

 I have squirrelled away all my makeup foils since I feel like I don’t reach for them often. But this is the ones I have pulled out! I think I have almost enough to do everything except mascara. Which I will use one of my open tubes! I don’t normally wear eyeshadow during the week due to time so this covered everything else!! @jaaayp i feel like we are close in the Luminous Silk foundation, which shade is your summer shade? I feel like one of the 4 shades should match me! 

Most of the items I have used before. The new to me ones are both the Benefit brow products, Drunk Elephant O-Bloos™ Rosi Glow Drops with Vitamin F everything else I’ve used. And I think liked. 

Can’t wait to see how this goes!

Oooh you squirrel sample packs too @ather ?! I literally have enough sample packs to cover a queen bed. I always think "should I try it now or should I save it for when I need it?" Reality is, given the rate I buy new things... I will never "need it" but I save it anyway LOLOL

I'm shade 4 🙂 I think @itsfi is too. I gotta say though that for me, it's not a perfect match, it's a click too yellow and click too dark. I think I'll get rematched on my next bottle but it works for me as I highlight the high points of my face with NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Vanilla .

I would love to know what you think of the Drunk Elephant O-Bloos™ Rosi Glow Drops with Vitamin F I think I have that sample packet somewhere too... 😂

@jaaayp  Hmmm I’ll check which shades are included! I picked the Ilia concealer I thought would match Friday and it did blend well but was a smudg yellow and dark. I was disappointed but I didn’t have time to change so off to work I went. Oops. 

I did try the Drunk Elephant O-Bloos™ Rosi Glow Drops with Vitamin F  and it was ok. I don’t think it would make me run out and buy it. I’ve been loving the MERIT Day Glow Dewy Highlighting Balm  I think it would be hard to beat it.

@jaaayp  I have been obsessed with the whole Rhode line since it launched. It’s worked so well on my skin! Others I enjoy are Summer Fridays, Innbeauty project and I use some from the Sephora Collection also! I’m trying to think of others I use. Hmmm

So spring and summer I tend to be more Combo/normal and fall and winter I lean more dry/normal. 

What brands have been working good with your skin???

@ather Great sample capsule. The RMS blushes woule be one I would like to try one day. I can relate to you about not reaching for makeup samples often. This challenge is a great way to use them up! I have already discovered a new love.

@Mellmars1185  I agree. Such a great reason to use them up! Which one is a love that you tried? I used the RMS today and it was so pretty. Not a love but I did use the Benefit brow and it’s so good. Literally made my brows look perfect! 😍

. I need to try it out this week. I keep forgetting it is in my capsule. My new love is Glossier Glossier You Eau de Parfum 1.7 oz / 50 mL eau de parfum spray . I ended up getting it for 10% off on the app sale. It is the kind of scent that is not too strong but I kept thinking wow this smells amazing.

Oh wow @ather, you have some outstanding products in your sample stash! 😍 Yes to the Armani LSF - its a fave. Ack, I don’t have mascara either. Well, technically I have a sample size mascara but it’s not one that performs well on my lashes. I’ll have to see whether I want to break open a new mascara or go with a deluxe sample size. Decisions, decisions! 😉
