CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 38 - (September 16 - 22) - The LatinX Founded / Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - LatinX Heritage Month is celebrated annually in the US from September 15 to October 15. As one way to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the beauty industry, let's put together a capsule that includes one or more products from a LatinX owned or founded beauty brand. See spoiler below for a non-exhaustive list.
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.
Multiple themes this week. You know the drill with the first prompt - curate a capsule with one or more beauty products that you want to compare against each other in a battle to see which reigns supreme; or that is a throw back to a different era (80's makeup, anyone? 90s? 2000s?, etc. ). OR, throw back to a past makeup capsule theme in a Do Over / Take 2. OR, put some products on the chopping block to see if they're keepers in your stash or if it's time to throw them out.
Previous Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024]
FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
I can't help but admire I Heart Revolution's palette cases. 😀
@itsfi Can I ask how Huda's lip liner compares to other lip liners in your collection?
@CynthieLu, they did a great job with the design of their palettes, didn't they?! It's so cute, eye-catching. 😍 A friend texted me that tomorrow is World Chocolate Day, a bit last minute for a new capsule theme, but that got me thinking ... and that lead me to discover that October 28 is National Chocolate Day. So, we should probably be pepared to have, at least for one prompt that week, a chocolate related capsule theme. Because, why not?!! 🍫 😂
I'll be back with thoughts on the Huda liner later tonight or tomorrow and will tag you.
Week 25!
I wanted to use my brand new Natasha Denona Golden Eyeshadow Palette and the highlight and pumper, so I built the capsule around that as well as items to keep using up. I was impressed by how pared down I was.

Then I remember Cheek Challenge was starting and then I was like, let's add some stuff, so I added an irresponsible amount of liners since I was using just one palette. Yeah, no check products were added... Just liners 🤣
Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow Pencil in Khaki (so mad they are gone)
NARS High-Pigment Longwear Eyeliner in Night Porter

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Lip Liner Bold
Urban Decay Beached Palette... Which is probably a fave amongst all my pallets, but I really use it just once or twice a year 😂, usually when summer comes along. It's such a vibe, and I think it was very slept on when it came out.
The fit
I mean, this was pre third addition, but it's still impressive. This Ami Colé bag is mighty
How it went -
I actually used most of these. I think night Porter was the only thing that was lightly used. I finally used most of my options 🙌🏽. And did a few looks for my cheek challenge to boot. Friday, I even managed to whip out two looks.. So always have options, folks!
Week 26!
How it started
How it actually ended up
I forgot about the challenge again 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️, but this time I added cheek products.
This was a tough fit. I even added a small makeup bag for lip options, gold colored to go with ND golden... Not enough 😂
Repeats: PMG Bronzers, Golden Palette, Stunna, Primer, Brow Pen, Fenty Huez, Live Tinted moisturizer (I actually have come to dislike this, but trying to use it up since it had decent wear... It's just soooooo orange), PMG yellow blurring powder, Dior highlighters, Fenty concealer, algae have, SC kaki, Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil Excellence , Ami Colé Soft Shape Waterproof Lip Liner Cafe Touba All good stuff!
Added
Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight Captivate and Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight Transcend with Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Liquid Blush Virtue so I can get my Glazed Cheeks on
Charlotte Tilbury Mini Hollywood Blush & Glow Palette because I wanna play with it
PAT McGRATH LABS LUST: Lip Gloss in bronze temptation
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner
Week 26 ended up being an extension of Golden week because I wanna keep playing with this palette. I did add an old love, ND mini gold, just to keep it interesting. I feel like Tuesday I got into a rut, but having mini gold kind of helped.
This is the capsule that *grew* @danielledanielle. I'm impressed by the amount you could fit in that shiny black bag. It's full! It's just how it goes, we need our options. 😁
Ahhhh, that ND Gold palette is a beauty @danielledanielle 😍 - the shadows themselves and also the design of that cover!!!! ⭐️
”I was impressed by how pared down I was… and then I was like let’s add some stuff, so…” hahaha! Ohhh, this gave me the best chuckle. I feel like that’s something that so many of us here can relate to. 😆
As for the “just liners”, I love it! I see it as a way to work through your liners. A battle of the eyeliners!! 😍
Seeing that Ami Cole bag brought a smile to my face. I remember when she first launched her line. Her bag to hold all her beauties …
I thought that bag was adorable and it held all my Ami Cole beauties (and it’s bringing to mind that I have that highlighter stick somewhere …) Loved seeing the new bags to her collection - it’s grown as her line has. It’s been great to see her line grow and continue to grow. 🥰
My what's On Top makeup capsule 👌✨
This is a mix of My favorite items from past capsules and favorites from my stash this month that I'm reaching for on repeat. 💌
**Everything except the perfumes**
@CynthieLu, it’s great to see the capsules or products that are repeated, and the new ones too. I always forget how large that CT bronzer is, then you see it next to an ND palette and it’s clear that there’s a lot of product in there. She does bronzers very well so that extra is nice to have.
The CT bronzer really is very generously sized @itsfi. I love the feel of a large compact thou. They just feel extra fancy. I'm very sure this one will last me years. 🤭
This is also a pretty luxe capsule @CynthieLu , very nice
Truth @danielledanielle Top picks and top notch 😉 I'm hitting that theme twice lol.
Week 26: The The June 2024 "On Top", "On the Chopping Block" and/or "On Repeat" Makeup Capsule
@itsfi Half a year of makeup capsules? I can't believe it is that far into the year already. Where is the time going?? 😅
This has been a great thread to follow along and be a part of! It's been an exciting addition to all the fun BIC things. Thank you for half a year of capsules! 🙏
@CynthieLu, time certainly does fly by. It’s been fun curating capsules with everyone here. I feel like I’ve gotten a lot more than I expected or hoped to from the challenge. And, of course, it’s good research 🧐 for future purchases. 😝 🛍️
Very true, this has been a great way to see what others are loving. 😉 BIC inspiration is my personal fave. @itsfi 😍
Week 25 - Dior Round Up
It was a very good week with the spotlight on Dior for "The Good Stuff ” Makeup Capsule
These Dior bags are practical and pretty. Love how much product they hold.
No declutters this week so we’re still holding at 6 for the month. I really loved using all these Dior beauties this week; I'm considering carrying it over into next week as well. 🤔
Fabulous round up of your "The Good Stuff!" Capsule @itsfi
I think nothing being declutter means that this was exactly that, the goods!
What is your top pick for setting spray? Is it the Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL ? I'm trying to remember if you've mentioned it before 🤔
That is definitely a great use of "The Good Stuff" theme @itsfi . I'm in love with your collection!
Awww, thank you @makeitup305! There are probably just a few brands that I have enough products for a full face. Here, I think I’m missing a brow product from Dior, but I think I probably have (a very, very old) one that’s likely at the bottom of a pile of my Dior quints and other lippies.
These are all the products I focused on during the month of May. I still incorporated a lot of other products in my collection but these were set aside on purpose. I love the Dior Skin Glow and Maximizer. Those have been some of my favorite products overall this year. The Bobbi Brown highlighter has a slight shift but is still wearable. I like having something a little different than what I usually go for. The ND highlighter is gorgeous as expected. I enjoy the VB Blush but it doesn't stand out to me. I ADORE the House of Hur blush and picked up another shade. This is what I want every liquid blush to be like. The Merit cream bronzer is really good and the Etude one is perfect for precise contouring. If you need something similar to the VB Contour, this is it (although I don't own the VB so I'm just speculating). The SC cream contour is ok but it's very pigmented so you have to be careful. The Judydoll contour palette is good quality but just ok for me, but the donut highligher is a very smooth shine. THe NARS blush, though reformulated, is still is a great product. I didn't use the Phytosurgence blushes much. This brand is just kind of meh for me.
Both the TFit, the Laura Mericer, and the Jung Saem Mool concealers are very good. The JSM is a little too yellow but I can make it work. I LOVE the JSM foundation so much I want to try the other ones in their range. I still haven't used the Glowish primer, which probably means I should declutter it (but I'm not ready to). The UD foundation is a little deep but paired with the Dior Skin Glow in 2N is *chef's kiss*. I always wanted to try the Chanel Les Beiges blush and I'm enjoying it. Is it worth the money? meh. I'm glad I have it, though. I enjoyed both the L'Oreal Serum Foundation and the Primera Tone Up primer.
These are all super solid, well performing eyeshadows. The CT palette is completely underhyped imo.
Ooooh you had some beautiful things picked out for the month @makeitup305 😍
I do the same, I mix Star Filter with my DM skin tint, it's good!👌It's a fun one to play around with. 😉
@CynthieLu I've really liked mixing it in to products but also just as a primer under foundation. It makes the finish of the foundation so radiant without changing the formula. Glad you enjoyed it, too!
